Reviews (page 11 of 13)
Fine. Nothing really stood out though.
I liked it a decent amount, but nothing was super memorable. 7
not bad!
I do like the Pixies, but not this album as much as Doolittle. You can definitely hear how this album inspired Nirvana, Weezer, and tons of other alt-rockers.
Noisy and sometimes groovy. 5/10
Feels idk punky? All over the world cool.
Not really feeling this one.... same as some of the other albums like this. Never really hooked me and gave me a reason to want to keep listening. The first song slaps though
I liked it... starting to appreciate the Pixies more and more.
I loved the surfy opening track, but past that it was typically 90s indie rock, which is just not my thing
The first track was really promising, but the rest of it ended up pretty average.
Has some good songs, but then some are pretty awful. So a typical Pixies album, I guess. 3/5
Nice
Very Pixies....
not that bad
Didn't know anything of this band prior but they were heavier than I expected. I like that.
Not the best Pixies album but a good'un
Solid. Distant 3rd best Pixies album behind Doolittle and Surfer Rosa. 7/10
Rock and Roll music was very metal. Ana has a great intro. The Happening felt really long for an otherwise tight album.
Solid early 90's rock album. I liked it, didn't love it.
Good background music to work to. Velouria and Ana were favorites.
Nothing stood out much after first listen. Intro track was fine.
I liked it but it couldn’t keep my attention. I kept walking away.
Pretty easy stuff to listen no. Nothing really stands out in a positive or negative way.
Cecilia Ann is pretty sweet. Overall fun listen
Whoa! Dig on Fire!
Definitely Rocked, felt like a bunch of deep tracks that I’ve never heard
I really love Dolittle, and Dolittle this ain't. Not that it's bad, but almost every song feels a *bit* too long, and the vocal mixes can be a little off too.
Sick opening track. not bad album, knew a couple pixies songs before, they're pretty right though
was alright, I can see where Nirvana got their inspiration from
-Heavy but occasionally futuristic -Not too long, didn't overstay its welcome
3/5 Music good but repetitive.
Solid, I always associate with Modest Mouse for whatever reason but prefer the latter
1990. Key Songs: The Happening, Is She Weird, Velouria
Not bad.
lacks consistency and was waiting for real bossanova
Сара није слушала, јер ето Марко 2
Better than Doolittle, and much better than Surfer Rosa. Still not something I'd listen to again.
This album grew on me a bit on its third listen, but still failed to capture my fancy. I grasp why The Pixies were always lauded within the music community, and have now garnered a larger audience as a comeback band. However, I have not found them too likeable. These songs have at best part of what makes The Pixies influential. The literal hardcore screams of “Rock Music”, the melodic qualities of “All Over the World” and the anthemic chants of “Stormy Weather” all showed the skills of the band. Unlike their stronger work, there were not multiple interesting elements in the songs. The screamos came off more as noise and the melodic tracks did not soar into anything too interesting. As a whole the mood was less fun than other efforts. Usually some pop song qualities appear in the choruses or guitar work to liven up the grimmer elements. I found the choruses uninspired and less of the interesting guitar work of “Surfert Rosa” and “Doolittle.” This record just has the harangue of anger rather than sugar to make the pill go down.
Literally not one single standout thing I can remember about the album. 2.5 stars.
Punk
I don’t think I’m cool enough to get it. All the songs feel pretty unremarkable. I didn’t hate it. 2/5
After the last few days this was a bit of a let down. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit flat.
Not a great fan of the Pixies. All a bit samey.
Rock Music was an assault on my ears. The rest largely forgettable
Was expecting a lot more after Teenager of the Year but somehow this just feels like a load of indie noise. I'm sure some will love it but just not for me. 2*
Previously unknown. Meh.
Kinda like a new surf rock feel. I kinda dig individual tracks, and may opt to put a few of those on every now and then but I couldn't see myself putting the whole album on.
Just an OK Pixies album
It was like the remembered the Pixies song but forgot to write songs
ruido para llenar mis oidos despues de dos noches de joda loca en retorno a mi hogar
Fine, but not something to revisit
Another example of a band being more influential than successful. This, their third album, shows a band who leave you wondering what you're going to get next and this to me is its greatest strength. I like the opening instrumental opening track, which suggests they have a melodic ability in and amongst their alternative noise and dynamic contrast which laid the ground for grunge. I see that the UK took to the pixies far more than their home country, despite the alt rock boom slowly usurping the mantle of traditional big groups in the US. I know a true fan of this band but I am a little unconvinced overall despite some 'moments'.
Alright, after a second pixies album I have decided I do not like them. While this album isn't as full of shitty screaming tracks like surfer Rosa was, it is instead full of mediocre alt garage rock songs that are like two and a half minutes long each. Nothing stood out, felt unique, or was really enjoyable. Bleh
Sounds a little like The B-52s if they got real angry. A handful of the tracks on this album featured interesting and delicate guitar, supported by tight instrumentals and somewhat appropriate vocals. The first and last tracks are good examples of songs by the Pixies that I think have a lot of artistic value and are enjoyable to hear. If this album stretched those songs a little longer and featured more of them, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. However, most of the songs are very short and don't feature enough depth to develop over the course of their short playtime. This album's total playtime is already on the short side, so the fact that many of the tracks are short themselves makes this album sound like it doesn't have much depth to offer, and is instead a collection of ideas that should have either been developed further or cut entirely.
Not so many catchy tunes as on different albums of theirs, I do appreciate the format and the influence that this band had on others. However, is this a top album, my answer is no.
Started with some solid surf punk in the first half, then petered out to mid alternative around track 8.
Would not buy
Like their other album it wasn't bad, this one seemed to fly by but I cant remember a single track of it
There were some interesting tracks here, but not my favorite
I like a handful of Pixies songs but didn’t love this album
This was kind of forgettable. Not something I would go back to.
Some decent songs, but overall it didn't engage me firmly or speak to me, and a few of the songs felt abrasive without redeeming qualities.
The album was ok, for some reason I have never really latched on to the pixies
Actually liked it a bit more than I thought I would. A free decent tracks.
Medio lope
I really do not get this band and I don't understand why. Just quite, quite boring.
this was just noise to me
Very middle of the road, confused album. Some good songs, some mid songs.Allison should have been the A track.
flaccid and uninspired
It is an enjoyable record but pales in comparison to Doolittle. It was a nice listen, had not heard them in a while. 7/10 [DROP]
This was fine. I guess I prefer Pixies more well known tunes.
Decent album I guess, will never listen to it again.
Muy trash, no es mí estilo, ningún tema lo disfruté
There are parts of these songs that I like. However, almost all of them are ruined by overstimulating one note guitar, and screaming bad lyrics at me. One song I paticually didn't like was 'Rock Music'. There are way too many songs that are just random female names. Too many for one artist, let alone one album. Overall I think one song of this would be a painless experience, but a whole album is a miserable listen. Two stars. (Favorite track: Velouria.)
This is a hard 2 for me right now, like I cannot fathom how they have 9 million monthly listeners. I think they have a really popular single and that might contribute to it, but I literally could not get through the first 3 songs. It just sounds like a washed out, unpolished synth rock band where no one really stands out as being good at their instrument.
I just don't get the Pixies. They have nice beats and grooves, but except one or two tracks on an album I find their work quite boring. this one has a good last track.
2,4 Highlights: Cecilia Ann, Velouria
Музыка иногда ничего, но вокал ужасен
No es mi género pero no se me hizo pesada la escucha.
It's no debaser. Interesting and a couple good songs, but not their best. 2+
I like the Pixies, but this is a pretty forgettable album in my view.
**An ok album
2.5
Honestly? Outside of "Is She Weird" I have little to say about this. I liked what I've heard of Pixies before, but this album is almost entirely 100% forgettable. There's not a single track (again, besides Is She Weird) that I thought about for even a moment while it was actively playing. Background noise dad rock.
Got some bangers but it gets repetitive and hard not to skip tracks.
I don't even know what they were trying to do here. I don't think they knew either
Don’t love loud but aimless indie rock. Mostly sounds like noise to me. I liked dig for fire, rest was boring and I’d forgotten all but a vague impression by the end of the day. Had no word tracks like Pet Sounds which was interesting
I wouldn’t say a bad album but no songs grabbed me it was ok to listen to but not something I would listen to again
Nice instrumentation but the occasional screaming is not my cup of tea.
Meh 5.8/10
Man if cecilla Ann had vocals….. Rest mid
The Pixies are amazing, but this album sadly is not. There’s little spark here and the songs settled into a blah flat line for me.
Not bad but also not my cup of tea
Not so much my stile but i understand the importance and impact they have on the music.
not my thing.... SORRY!
Gosh, what a boring album! I swear, people have got to be lying when they rate some of these albums just because they're on this list or they were told something was good once upon a time. Anyway, "Allison" was the only song I really liked. "Stormy Weather" was pretty cool, but then I got bored and realized it was less than 2 minutes into a 3:26 song. Not a great sign. 2 Stars and that's probably generous.
I'm glad this wasn't the first I'd heard of the Pixies because this album was deeply underwhelming. The songs from this band that I know are from the first two albums and this one just doesn't hold up to it's predecessors.
Umm, not to be rude but this was pretty meh... I don't know if it was revolutionary for the time or what but this just didn't grab me at all. The first track on the album is instrumental and that was my fave. This is the first time I've listened to the Pixies and I've always heard they were a 'cool' band, but I was expecting something more than this... sorry. 2/5
Every song on this album sounded almost identical to me. None of them made an impression on me and I couldn't have hummed a single one of them the second after it finished.
Day 5 — Pixies — Bossanova (1990) Listened: Feb 27, 2026 Genre: Alternative Rock / Surf Punk Vibe: Spacey, distorted, dynamic alternative rock Highlights: • Velouria • All Over the World • Dig for Fire Impression: Fun, fast-paced spacey surf rock. Appreciate its cultural significance even if not fully in my lane. Rating: 2.4/5 Keep songs? Favorites only Revisit album? Maybe
2.5 not good enough for 3 stars.
Aight not enough bangers
I've learned from this generator that I'm not a Pixies fan
coo
It's ok - not really my kind of stuff though. They're a bit loud
theres so many better rock albums of the time, this one aint bad just background radio music tbh
Did not like Rock Music, skipped it. Like Allison - more reminiscent of the stuff I liked in high school/college. Fast forward through All Over the World. I'm not into this album for whatever reason.
Just wasn't my style. Nothing really stuck out.
Zwei gute Songs. Der Rest wie gewöhnlich: Pixies for the dixies
Honest i didnt vibe with too much of it but it was still pretty good again brought me to amazing vibes so love just not that much
This one is not that good
I know the pixies are good but this one was a bit noisy for me
Not their best but a solid album from a legendary band
Nada espectacular
The opener, Cecilia Ann, sounds like an opening theme song for an 80s action/adventure show. Things quickly get weird from there. The music is solid while the vocals and lyrics go astray, and then timing gets out of kilter—maybe driven off course by the vocal oddity.
This was fine. Can't say mush more about it than that.
Not as painful a listen as Surfer Rosa was, but still quite a few tracks that I found irritating. Ended on a good note with Havalina. Think I’m still gonna rate this a 2/5 as the harshness of Rock Song really pissed me off.
nicht meins
Didn't like
Definitely wasn’t expecting the pixies to sound so rock and roll I was into it
Too Screechy
A good start with Cecilia Ann, an instrumental only song, and it goes down hill from there.
so far this is def not the type of music I would personally gravitate too for my daily rotation, BUT some of these songs will be going on my pottery playlist because rock hits the best when I'm on the throwing wheel for some reason
“There is this old woman She lives down the road You can often find her kneelin’ inside of her hole” I don’t know if it’s just that there are fewer standout hits on this than on “Doolittle” but I sadly found “Bossanova” passing me by even as I was listening to it. I dialled into the occasional song such as “Is She Weird” and “Dig For Fire” which offered more like what I expected from Pixies but I was just not gripped by it the album at all. Much of it felt like a precursor to Shoegaze which I will confess I find a little contrived and boring anyway. This may explain my lack of interest in this. With all that being said I did enjoy a few songs here and there across the album.
A third Pixies album? How long will they continue to haunt me?
Ew
loud... ?
meh
only liked the first song (which was an instrumental) but otherwise i’d give it a 5/10
It’s a very 90s album I didn't like it that much most of the singing was actually screaming
This one is really random but I like Havalina
Wasn’t in the right headspace for this today
Maybe I am kind of out of my standard punk phase, but every song on this sounded the same, and it just reminds me of stuff I would have listened to with headphones at the age of 14 reading rolling stone
i sorta get why people enjoy it, but i imagine they’re pretty blah.
Pretty tired of getting albums by the Pixies. It is a LOT of noise
Not a fan… but better than screamo
This is my first time listening to a Pixies album, and I'm very confused. I only have a passing knowledge of them with Where Is My Mind and Cactus, but I thought there was a woman that sang on their songs? Why is this just a guy? Did she leave the band? I thought they would sound more rough & tumble, but this album sounds so polished. I don't know. I like how creative this album is, but I still feel let down by this.
Oeff heel moeilijk om te luisteren echt helemaal niks voor mij. Eerste nummer dacht ik nog instrumyaak leuk, maar dit is echt te rock voor mij. Ben nu bij nummer 2 maar ga denk ik niet af luisteren
Was not a fan of this
dnf
Pixies aren’t doing it for me. This was more enjoyable than the last Pixies album. It didn’t do enough for me to move it into a 3.
would not listen to it
I enjoyed it as background music for working because the rhythm was perfect for that, but the lyrics were lacking.
This is another case of the right band making the list but probably not their best album.
How is every bad pixie song on the same album?
Veloria had cool theramins. Not a fan of the screaming vocals so far on some tracks, or weird whispery voices. Only a few interesting parts so far, probably a 2 here. Historicaly, I haven't been a fan of the Pixies, having 2 other albums on this list of theirs.
Nothing stood out.
ma ei teaaa polnud minu cup of tea eriti, mulle meeldivad teised Pixies albumid rohkem, midagi erilist ei torkinud kõrva
Rock alternativo é sempre 8 ou 80. Nesse caso tá mais pro 8. Eu entendo que é uma banda influente, mas eu não consegui sentir interesse por nenhuma música. Melhor do álbum: "Cecilia Ann. Pior do álbum: "Rock Music".
I tried two times, but I feel like there is a clear reduction in interesting elements and quality as you go through this tracklist. The first two songs start the album off on a unique high, then after that a general progression into alt rock muzak. 2.4/5 -> 2/5
Not bad to listen to but once was enough.
I really don't understand the hype around the Pixies.
One of the better things for me about getting older and not participating in music-based subcultures anymore is that I no longer had to pretend to like The Pixies. So it’s kind of a bummer to see this album pop up. As a band, they’re fine! I understand their influence, but I’ve never really got why they’re THE touchstone. “Velouria” is a good song even if it sounds like a restatement of “Wave of Mutilation” to my ears (which, to be fair, have not listened to The Pixies in quite some time). “Is She Weird” has a neat Cramps-ish vibe, though it mostly makes me wish I was listening to The Cramps instead. Some good bits of melody here and there, but yeah, none of this is making me reconsider my opinions on this band.
I don’t think we need 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 Pixies album on here. I wasn’t too crazy about it, a lot of nonsense and quite a bit of songs I didn’t feel like listening to all of. Still a couple standouts though, so that’s something. Best Track: Dig for Fire
What a doodoo album by a decent band.
smorilo
This? This is the Pixies? I feel like they have a huge following and I've never given them a chance, and I feel pretty let down by what I hear. There's a number of very different sounds on the album - but too many of them turn me off. I was good with Allison, and I liked Havalina, but those are a couple lesser-streamed tracks on this album, so it seems like that's not what Pixie fans are excited about from them. Feels a little like a 'guess you had to be there' album.
Really do not the vocals Did anyone have a tuner? Same sounding songs
Confusing album
I hated Sonic Youth so reading that Pixies are the other side of the same coin was not a good omen. I didn't enjoy this
1. Cecilia Ann - 9 Great instrumental track to open. Some awesome riffs in it that lead the song along the way right from the off. 2. Rock Music - 2 Awful sounding track. Moe noise rock than anything. The guitar's screeching is very unenjoyable as are the overly hoarse vocals. 3. Velouria - 4 It's a bit lyrically uninspiring. Very repetitive, way too much so. Instrumentally it's okay. 4. Allison - 5 It's okay. Better than Velouria but's a pretty average track overall. 5. Is She Weird - 5 Lyrics are very odd at times. They're a little too repetitive but vocally this is an improvement over Rock Music and Velouria. Not a bad track. 6. Ana - 6 It's good but too short. Could have been something more brilliant if we were given more of it since it's significantly better than the previous four tracks. 7. All Over the World - 7 It's a bit repetitive but I love the space the guitars are given to occupy on the track. It's instrumentally really good and there's a lot to enjoy about this track. 8. Dig for Fire - 4 Instrumentally it's enjoyable but lyrically it's very dull and repetitive. 9. Down To The Well - 5 Better lyrically but still just an okay kind of middle-of-the-road sounding track. 10. The Happening - 4 Vocally this sounds awful at times. Guitar sounds excellent between the vocals. 11. Blown Away - 6 Thankfully the vocals take a back seat to an awesome build through some excellent guitar. The second half of this track is some of the best on the album. 12. Hang Wire - 1 Awful sounding piece of music. 13. Stormy Weather - 1 Exactly the same issue with Hang Wire. Lyrically boring and vocally annoying. Just a bad piece of music. 14. Havalina - 6 I know this is horribly repetitive but the upbeat nature of the instruments and the almost choir-like vocals make it a really enjoyable track. Great way to end the album. Average Rating: 4.62 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 2.32 Rounded Down: 2 Stars
Interesting sound but gets a bit grating after a few songs. Doolittle is much better.
Rock, Punk, 1990 -> 2
Começa legal mas vai ficando cada vez mais maçante. Top 3: 1- Cecilia Ann 2- Ana 3- Havalina
I like the pixies but I wanted more out of this. Stormy weather rocks though
Eh not my kind of music
I appreciated the novelty of it but that’s about it - a bit too aggressive for my tastes.
My ears do not like. 2
Not for me
Too many of the same band again. Pick one of Surfer Rosa or Doolittle.
1 stern
Idk it is kinda boring.
meh
Wasn’t much of a fan of the Pixes when they first came out, and still not apart from the odd song.
Eher langweilig - Gab nicht ein Lied das mich richtig abgeholt hat.
It was just a wall of noise with no structure. “Come On Pilgrim”, “Doolittle”, and “Surfer Rosa” are way better than this.
When the album is called bossanova but there is no bossa nova in it 🤬
Gave this album quite a few listens. Really wanted to like it but this album did not do much for me. There was some good stuff on this but it never came together for me.
Waiting for Doolittle
After the second song, Rock Music, I was going to give the album one star. But I actually liked some of it, and it ends up being between a 2 and a 3 for me. Since I doubt that I will bother to listen to it again, I’ll give a 2.
Sei la, bom e ruim??!
Kind of boring rock to me.
This Pixies album didn't do much for me. Overall I can't even name a Pixies song. On second listen I enjoyed it a bit more. I ended the bass player
Digging for fire is a classic, but the rest of this album was a bit disappointing. Doolittle was a bit of a magical moment for them, but this showed me that they kind of exhausted their good ideas. Still though, for the time period, this was still ahead of its time .
The east coast answer to everything that was going on in Seattle is the way I have always see the Pixies. The problem is that they're a little more weird and harder to follow. Great heavy bass lines, but in the end it all kind of sounds the same (which is about the same for most early alternative). I get they are pretty influential, but alternative as a genre is one of those things that resonate with you when you're young but then fades as you grow older and find out there's more to life that what you can do in your bedroom by yourself.
This one really didn't connect with me which is a shame, since I like "Where is my mind." I wanted to like it but it kind of just became noise to me at some point. It's possible I'd like it more on a different listen but today wasn't that day for me. Standouts: Velouria Rating: 2.5/5
The Pixies post-date may rock music prime so yo me just like , well, lots of other bands. Can sing, can play, can write lyrics - so what? 2
nah. Sounds like something from the Empire Records soundtrack. I always hate barely-there vocals. Speak up, and the strange meandering of instruments is a hallmark of this era of indie rock.
Did not enjoy ☺️
don't like it, sorry, it's not my type
Another introduction for me to a genre I've never been into before. So I gave it a real good go. Didn't like Rick Music. Velour started but didn't end with promise. Alison more favoured, like Is she Weird. Ana is ok. Dig for Fire interesting. I really tried listening but couldn't wait for it to finish 😪 What or who the hell is Havalina!?
Not my style but was a big one back in the day for some
This nearly got 1*, but then I remembered all the albums I’ve given 1* to and thought that I was being harsh. I thought they were singing about DeLorean on track 2 - that was sort of fun?
Decent
meh
This was not a bossanova album Joking aside, kind of what I expect from the pixies. Don't super enjoy this sound or this album of theirs, 2*
Reipasta ränkytystä ilman erikoisuutta
Despite moments of the band's trademark weirdness and surf-rock flair, Bossanova feels like a diluted version of what made the Pixies exciting in the first place. The raw energy and tension of earlier albums like Doolittle are largely absent, replaced by a more polished, spacier sound that lacks bite. While there are a few standout tracks, the album as a whole drifts into forgettable territory. A disappointing effort from a band known for pushing boundaries.
This certainly was not the band the Pixies that I knew. Interesting, if I could do half pointe, would award a 2.5.
Ok I am relived that was not entirely screamo. Still, the vocals cant be called pleasant nor does the mix do any favors for picking out lyrics on many tracks. The guitar work is great though, far and away the strongest aspect of this record. Listened to: commuting from 5MW. Favorite tracks: Blown Away
point6.
Nothing special 2/5
Allison yapicam adımı, Is she weird da güzelmiş bir de evin garajında yazılmış gibi bi havası var ama sound olarak sarıyor. (Allison'dan vazgeçtim Ana daha güzel)
Ya, I know people are generally all gaga over this album. It just doesn’t really connect very deeply with me. What can I say.
This record begins the end. Their first three records established them as "pioneers of alternative" with creative song structures, but this record shows how they slip into traditional styles, making them more accessible to radio and the masses. A couple of tracks carry their original vibe (Down to the Well, The Happening) but also shine light on the new direction leading to Trompe Le Monde - I stopped listening to them.
Did not like the Album
eh, okay
Okay for background. Nothing special.
Screamy 90s pre grunge. Sounds like opening to MTV tv shows in 90s, or Reno 911. I should appreciate it, but don’t love it
I feel like I have written this before and maybe I have. While nothing wrong with this music it just doesn't work for me. I feel it goes to much towards punk for my taste in a lot of songs rather than rock.
В мене складні стосунки з піксіз, деякі альбоми мені більш-менш норм, але цей зовсім не подобається.
i just cant get into the pixies like this… but there were a few great moments
Not my style, but a nice taste breaker. A lot of the songs are quite in your face and noise, but some songs were calmer. Is she weird and Ana were catchy.
nah dog
Not a bad album
I’m just not a fan of the Picies
Not very good.
I think I'm missing something - will keep trying with Pixies but not sure they're my thing. Weird as I would have thought they'd be up my indie alternative street but found myself a bit bored again with this one.
Not the best Pixies album, by a lot.
Not my kind of music.
Svega od dosadnog pseudo-kul indie rocka iz noćne more do nekih baš zanimljivih melodija. Tog prvog daleko više.
Just has not aged well can see they may have inspired some and been on a cutting edge at some point but now just feels like its music in no mans land
OK listening when cycling.
Not for me. Two stars.
At several points, I forgot I was listening to this. It's not too long though.
no thanks
Ngl i zoomed out most of the album
Most overrated faux indie there was. Sure, some great songs but god, it’s boring half the time. Worst drummer in rock history doesn’t help.
Amelodic drivel
While this still has some d.i.y. charm the songs are just boring. As usual this band gets on my nerves with disinterested bad singing and the superficial punk pose.
I wanted to like it more than I did
Pixies vaan on tosi tylsää… kuulostaa aina vain laahaavalta heti, kun lupaavasta reippaammasta introsta on päästy.
Not for me
Went a little too far left for my taste. Love some other Pixies records but this one just didn’t quite tickle me in the right way.
Not my favourite Pixies album
Loud and soft, but not bossa nova
I don't think I like the Pixies all that much at the end of the day.
Noise. Unwellness. 1.5/5
Underwhelming, very early grunge/punk esk but just wasn’t anything crazy First some was a banger though, very fun vibes
This was okay. A random mix of sounds with strange lyrics. Didn’t really keep my attention. Quite repetitive.
Not sure why this is viewed as good
No particular hits. Very garagy sound, not impressive.
not my style
Maybe the best good album I don't like. A few enjoyable tunes but mostly stuff I don't want to listen to.
Didn’t rate this, pre cursor tonsome great grunge and 90s rock but not something that grabbed me
I remember the cover from everyone's dorm or house I ever visited back in 1990, this was all over college radio. It's got really respectable listen counts and 3 songs over 25M. The first track is like an old western movie, then it rolls into "Rock Music" which is angry as hell and not something my parents could handle, ever. The next track "Velouria" is one of the popular tracks I mentioned, but I'm not entirely sure why. "Ana", also a popular track, is just bland. "Dig For Fire" was the best song I thought, it's worth a second listen. Most of the tracks just miss the mark or are so sloppy they weren't enjoyable to me. The other Pixies album on this T1001 list is a way better call, try "Doolittle" if you want to hear them at their finest. I didn't find this compelling or worthy, I could certainly die tomorrow knowing I had never listened to this in its entirety. 2.5 stars.
Satirical album title! Genuinely surprised at the grit! Realising I am not a big punk / metal / hard rock fan!
Bleh.
Whether you love or hate Frank Black, he never phones it in. But I hate him.
Not for me.
The first two Pixies albums are so great and innovative. This album feels like a band quickly losing steam. Few standout songs, and some feel like weaker versions of one’s on the first two albums.
Meh. You can’t sing along to any of these songs they were all just kinda short and loud. Definitely very grungy but not the kinda grunge I like. I’m glad I listened to it cause I definitely wouldn’t have otherwise but as far as albums go this one ranks low for me
No thoughts.
Totally caught off guard by how little I like this album and how much I wish I were listening to something else, lol. I'm sure there's a better mood for this or a more suited day but damn this just did not hit at all.
I've heard Doolittle before and j enjoyed it. But I found this pretty boring 5/10
Not in the mood for this
Not for me
Couldn't get into it
2 star, not memorable
Was SO into the first song, I think because I don’t like the singer’s voice :/
Just not very interesting.
This has some gooduns like “Dig for Fire” and “Velouria” but I was pretty bored with this album. Doolittle is one of my favorite albums of all time, I love Pixies, but this one feels lethargic. Maybe I’m missing some nuance, maybe this is why I realized I never listened to this album all the way through.
Meh
Eh 2 screamy 4 me
Sounds like the Pixies. They set the (excellent) template with Surfer Rosa, and it feels like they kept making the same album since, just with a little less energy.
Pixies, schmixies. I didn’t care for this. Annoying and noisy.
I think you had to be there. What edge there may have been has smoothed over time and it just sounds samey now
Songs going in many different directions, and so do the vocals. Not keen..
Wasn't really a fan of this. Everything sounds just a little below average, especially the vocals. I know the Pixies were a huge founding influence in the punk/alt-rock scene and I've found some of their songs to be great but nothing found on this album. 4/10 (2/5)
This is my 1st time listening to a full Album of Pixies music (i know, I know, what took me so long?) I'm a fan of their music that made it on several influential Soundtracks (The Crow?)! _But a full album of their 'Sound' is a little much at times and sets off my tinnitus in my ear...I'm too old for this Punk Music..
Too much screaming and noise
Not much resonates. Dingy bar energy
Ekan biisin joutu kuunteleen oikein toisenki kerran ja oli aika hyvä. Muuten meni nyt kyllä sivistymisen puolelle vaikka jotain tänmoista aavistelin. .sivistyin...Allison oli hyvä
Could not really get into this one, was enjoyable but nothing to write home about, nothing memorable for me
It’s a fine album I guess. Doesn’t really grab me, though I always thought their fans were cool. I prefer The Breeders.
I think there is one Pixies song I like and it was not on this album. Note: screaming is not singing.
Where is my where is my mind Pixies?
Enjoyed it more than I thought after the first song, but won't be revisiting.
A laid back cool sound. Does tend to drag on
Surprised by how much I didn't particularly like this. I'd heard of the Pixies but if you asked me to sing one of their songs I'd struggle. I don't mind this sort of grungy bangy music but for me this album didn't get anywhere, it was just a lot of the same songs that aren't mixed great (I actually don't know if that's what it is but I have heard people say that and it feels appropriate). So really I was underwhelmed by this.
Don't flush it down the loo But I prefer the first two
it’s not a bad album by any means, but not a single song spoke to me
It was ok
Skip te short songs a you have a really good album.
I think the album is okay, just the music isn't my taste. I can hear how they've influenced other music but I don't think I would ever go "I really want to listen to the Pixies today!" I actually think giving it a 3 would be a disservice to the other albums I have a 3
Almost quit listening, but made it through. It was okay, but won't be marking this as a favorite.
Another complete waste of time Pixies album. This band sucks. Hopefully no more on this list
Not that great
Overall not a strong impression. Don’t feel like I need to come back to this album
my favourite part of this album was the square space ad that youtube played inbetween songs
2/5. Not my speed.
NoiseE 2
Not as good as surfer Rosa or Doolittle. Are 3 pixies lps really needed?
Did it all start to go downhill here for the pixies? Nothing on the previous albums 2.5*
Never listened to The Pixies before but must have caught them at some point on the radio. Trouble with this stuff is that I have heard similar music time and time again and there is nothing to distinguish one group from another. It has been done so many times before on repeat. Don’t get me wrong it’s quite passable but next please. Which will be number 400 so a good one please. 2/5 4/2/25
This was fine. Not their best work, I didn't think, which begs the question as to why this one was included. Nothing ground breaking, not their biggest album, and judging by the other reviews, hardly anyone here counts it among their favorites.
Straight ahead rock. Did not do anything for me. I think it's simple and boring. Not for me.
2/5
Forgettable
