A challenging and spiky listen but some interesting vocals and hooks to make the isolating sound more accessible. Listened twice and found it bleak and a complete piece. Not one I'll return to but enjoyed it.
As a non-jazz person, I really enjoyed the warmth, atmosphere and playfulness of this album.
The production is fantastic but this style of yacht rock, which I understand was innovative did nothing for me. I didn't mind Home at Last but aside from that, I did not enjoy listening to this at all.
I knew a couple of the songs and I was raised on 70s rock so this was a comfortable listen. The lyrical themes of transgression were cutting edge and the story telling is fantastic. All set to a fuzzy glam rock. I really enjoyed this.
A great first half and a mediocre second. Really enjoyed the well known singles but latter songs less interesting
Amazing, kaleidoscopic indie, blues, folk, musical theatre inspired songsmithing. Reminded me of Badly Drawn Boy and Polyphonic Spree but it's own thing.
It's fine but I didn't need a 2006 pop double album in my life. The vocal gymnastics do nothing for me and makes the whole thing seem a bit soulless.
I'd not listened all the way through before and this is such a coherent and enjoyable piece of work. Superb and beautiful.
Classic blues rock, setting the scene for Led Zep and Cream.
An enjoyably riotous and interesting piece with samba, funk, African rhythms and rock influence. A toe tapper throughout.
Powerful discordant with decent songs but sagged in the middle.
Folk rock mellowness, with catchy songs containing more troubling lyrics. Loved it
Decent Bowie inflected record with a couple of smash singles.
Beautiful sound with exciting use of dynamics and crafted songs.
Tres francais. Interesting and familiar with pieces I was familiar with from pop culture but not one I'd sit down to again.
Atmospheric, haunting and amazing.
Surprising, amazing, ethereal, space R&B
Some brilliant ideas that don't come together.
Huge, groove-laden and heavy. An immense metal album.
Sumptuous production of a disco classic. A slew of great songs.
Generic and interesting compared to other bands of the time.
Highly polished but occasionally a bit soulless. Lots of cool musical ideas.
Original and brutal nascent Gangsta Rap.
A beautiful homage to rock with a cheeky smile.
Sublime
Amazing vibe but the songs didn't stick with me.
Delightfully crafted indie from an artist I didn't know. Excellent
Loved this. Totally new to me, and it's great chunky, grimy punk
