Early Beatles not really my thing. Something ive heard a million times before from a million different bands. Hindsight is unkind to their early work.
3/5
Title track is a classic, everything else is just kind of trying to be Green Onions 2. Handful of fun songs, but not my thing.
Standouts: Green Onions, I Got A Woman, One Who Really Loves You, Comin' Home Baby
Certainly an influential record for those in the 90s alternative music scene as well as people inspired by it. From Nirvana to Olivia Rodrigo, the Pixies have left their mark across generations with their first few records.
It's not quite what I'm after personally, but there's absolutely no denying the impact Doolittle's had, and while I may prefer to listen to one of the bands the Pixies had inspired, this one's still pretty goooooood.
Standouts: Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Gouge Away
Listened to this before, took a while to grow on me. Shit rips.
Standouts: Ready or Not, Fu-Gee-La, Family Business, Killing Me Softly, No Woman, No Cry, Manifest / Outro.
Another Pixies record - I think I prefer this to Doolittle? Still not REALLY my thing, but this one is a bit weirder and I dig that.
Standouts: Cecilia Ann, Velouria, Allison, Hang Wire
Liked this a lot - certainly outside of my normal type of music, but I definitely enjoyed this.
Standouts: Alexander's Ragtime Band, Deed I Do, Tell Me You'll Wait For Me
Now we're back in my wheelhouse. Outstanding record.
Standouts: Bombtrack, Killing in the Name, Take the Power Back, Wake Up
Production is great, everything is mixed super well and each instrument or effect has its own space to breath in, but holy moly this record is so boring.
First time listening to CCR outside of Fortunate Son -- I dig most of what this record was doing. Don't know that I'll go out and buy their complete discography, but I'm sure I'll check out some of their other material at some point.
Standouts: Bad Moon Rising, Lodi
Goofy record. Fun first half, back half falls off a cliff.
Standouts: Build It Up - Tear It Down
The highlights of this record are the first and last few songs with nothing of note in the middle. A deliciously toasted bun with a raw slab of beef in the middle.
Standouts: Independent Woman pt. 1, Survivor, Emotion, Dangerously In Love, Brown Eyes
Not nearly interesting enough to be anywhere near as long as it is. Baffles me that this is over an hour long. Just doesn't do anything interesting enough to justify its length.
I fear I may not be quirky enough for Devo.
Fun album, just didn't really click with me. Also didn't realize that this is where the Ridiculousness theme song came from lol
