All the Velvet Underground albums are essential, and this is no exception. Superb.
First time I'd heard it and loved it. Great final track!
First time listen, will do again. Great album.
It's okay, has its moments but not my favourite Pixies album
It ok I thought, another one that had the odd moment but. didn't really grab me. Might require a few more listens perhaps...
First time listen, very impressed. Will be listening again.
Owned this for several years on vinyl, but first time I've listened to it all the way through! Glad I finally did, good album, opening track one of my favourite Elton efforts.
I tried to like it, I really did. Track two makes it virtually impossible to carry on.
I cannot get my head around Tom Waits. Utterly dreadful.
Good grief, did I really use to dance to these tunes back in the day? I must have been off my face. That's right, I was! Haven't heard it since then, so actually enjoyed hearing it again, though not an album I could listen to constantly.
One of the hardest things in rock is to pull off the double album. A lot of decent material required. Led Zeppelin did it with this, outstanding.
A new one for me, in fact I must admit I'd never heard of the artist. But really enjoyed it, a very interesting listen and will definitely be doing so again.
Started well then went rapidly downhill into generic slow R&B and therefore became a bit boring. Made it all the way through though, so couldn't have been terrible.
Tricky to listen ro and judge with 2026 ears, it did of course sound very basic. Not without its decent bits, and was a quick and easy listen. Also feel there's better from this era and genre.
First time listen, and though it excellent. Only knew one Goldfrapp song before this (I bet you can't guess which one), so was pleased to hear their first LP. Will definitely listen again.
As a mid-80s LP goes pretty decent, three hits with acceptable other tracks. Not quite all killer no filler but perfectly listenable.
A couple of great tunes but the power ballard fillers wore a bit thin.
Really, really not my cup of tea. Never heard of them before this, suffice to say I won't be making further inroads in to their back catalogue.
Pleasantly surprised how good this was. Will be listening again.
Only one song from this album is currently available on Spotify, and did like it. But maybe not enough to invest the time in tracking down the rest of it. An average three is what I'll give, purely in order to move on to the next selection.
Not my favourite Bowie album, but still enough within to keep me engaged. Much preferred side two to one, and obviously the title track is timeless.
Not bad, two absolute classic songs with standard 1970 rock/pop fillers to make up the album. Much better albums were released in this period I feel.
I have listened to this album hundreds of times over my lifetime; suffice to say one of the greatest albums ever recorded and certainly one of the most influential. I can never get my head around it was recorded in 1966, so ahead of its time. One of only a handful of albums I'm guaranteed to listen to at least every few months. A comfy 5 star!
Utterly brilliant! Enough said.
Outstanding garage psych, another album that would have blown people's minds when released in 1966. Quite literally if you followed the advice on the sleeve's liner notes!
Some decent parts, and an interesting listen, but felt it got a bit samey and perhaps a bit long. Okay though.
Would have to be on the mood for this, and quite liked some of it. Not quite sure how often I would be in the mood though, but if I am I'll give it another go.
I was looking forward to hearing this, but ultimately found it a bit dull. Could grow on me I suppose with a few more listens, but not sure if I'm that bothered to be honest.
A mixture of interesting tracks and unlistenable stuff. Not enough to make me listen again unfortunately.
A top three Bowie album for me (along with Ziggy and Hunky Dory) for me, and therefore I think his best outside of the glam period. So an album I love and know very well, so an easy top mark.
Better than I thought and could well be a grower. Will probably return to it at some point.
I wish, I just wish, I could have been at this gig.
Great band, good album. All of their albums are always worth a listen, this included.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, recall that there was a lot of hype when it came out back in 2007 which at the time put me off. Good to hear it again with fresh ears nearly 20 years later.
One of those albums that you start to listen to and you know a load of the songs already. And they're all classics. But, but... it suffers from the the problem most double albums have: it's bloody long, with some several tracks. Take out the filler, leave the killer and you've got one of the greatest albums of all time. Still good though!
They got the name of the book wrong. It should really be "101 Albums to Hear Before You Die, 800 that are Very Good but not Essential and 100 Where We Ran Out of Anything Else Worth Listening To, So We Bunged in any Old Tosh". I bet you can't guess which category this one falls into.
Liked it, short and sweet. Kind of eminded me of What's Going On, but obviously no where near as good. Great last track though.
Excellent record. Didn't know this at all and only vaguely aware of later Sonic Youth music. Will listen again and I am now looking forward to hearing more from them.
Bog standard 1980's poodle rock. The authors clearly needed filler to make it to the 1001, this is one of those.
