Nostalgie 10/10. Alsof ik weer 10 jaar ben en bij mijn ma in de auto zit. Mijn ma had 4 cd’s in de auto, waarvan deze er één was (de andere waren Tracy chapman, Marco Borsato en Ilse de langhe, één en al vuur dus). Dit album zit zo goed in elkaar, en joans stem is gewoon heerlijk om naar te luisteren.

Everything on this album just clicks. Hard to give a rating lower than 5 for any album with such guitar play of Knopfler. Absolute no skip and also an album that you can listen to everyday, while doing anything. Cooking, drinking, sports, reading, that’s rare.

FTL: This album is like being spawned in a tropical rainforest, not knowing where the fuck you are. Surrounded by exotic bird sounds and trees breathing lively, a talking bonobo shows you the way. Really hearing influences of Miles Davis throughout the record but combined with the synths, flute and sly influences, this really is an amazing record.

FTL: Very interesting album. Quite like nothing I’ve heard specifically. Intensifying melodies followed by very soft an distant ones. Some eerie sounds in there. Has some features of the Doors. Also heard some Pixies elements in there but guess that would be the other way around, timeline wise. Was even more intrigued after googling the band afterwards and noticing the glam and goth style with Bowie influences. Album doesn’t get more than 3 stars tho, but that’s because we have to keep in mind all other great albums still coming.

Het is obviously kwalitatief goed, maar ik kan er gewoon niet naar luisteren. Fucking gejengel van Bono. Iemand in de comments zei het heel mooi: net een 3-jarig kind dat niet zijn zin krijgt. Dan elk nummer klinkt zo ongeveer hetzelfde. Alles gepolijst en gepoetst. Alles ademt commercie, muziek zonder diepgang, maar radio ready voor de massa. Dat is een keuze, en je verdient er ook lekker veel knaken mee. Maar de muziek krijgt in mij echt helemaal niets los.

Niet het beste in losse genres, maar toch wel de beste punk-pop rock opera (weinig competitie). Laatste halve puntje krijgen ze voor hoe Billie Joe Armstrong als een verdwaalde worm op het podium lag soms

Er zijn weinig albums die je zo pakken aan het begin en vasthouden. Het is politiek, het is anti establishment, anti performatief, klassenstrijd. Geweldige mix van punk en soul, en daarmee wat meer emotioneel harmonisch dan veel andere punk, wat overigens geen kwaliteitsverschil is maar gewoon anders. Dan nog die lekker dramatische stem van Rowland. De samenstelling van het album en de energie is voor mij bijna perfect.

Supertramp is one of those bands, love their music, whack name, albums I find mwah. Some individual songs will capture me from start to end. And starting with Davies on that keyboard in the first song I think this is it! But then it doesn’t keep my attention entirely throughout the album. It’s a great album to have playing in the background when with friends.

FTL: Well… that was fucking boring. Took me an eternity to get through. Checks every box for music to focus to, so will definitely recycle it for that. But imo for pure listening purposes, ondraaglijk. Good album title however so 1 star for that.

Bobby Dylan, de man die mij aan alles kan laten twijfelen, mijn muzieksmaak, mijn pretenties, mijn hele bestaan. Hij is zo fucking goed maar toch haat ik hem de helft van de tijd vanuit het diepst in mijn hart. Wanneer hij met die jankstem zingt terwijl hij zijn veel te langgerekte mondharmonica solo’s begint, wil ik mezelf steken met een stabilo. Dan komt hij weer met de meest poëtische teksten en blues rock melodieën en ben ik een sicke fanboy. Er zijn er weinig die me van 1 naar 5 sterren laten switchen binnen 3 minuten. Album > live compilatie. Disc 2 >> Disc 1. 3 sterren voelt goed.

Dit heb ik altijd met Venom. Het mist gewoon muzikaliteit en vooral (muzikale) creativiteit. Echt niet te vergelijken met de rest van NWOBHM. Kortom, gebrek aan joie de vivre. Dit album is daar een pracht voorbeeld van, whack. Desondanks, wel echt veel invloed gehad op hardere metal stromingen dus dat moet ik ze meegeven. Bursting out 12” is goed.

Album cover en titel moet insinueren dat je je vast moet houden, want het wordt vuurwerk. De helft van de nummers spreekt over rock and roll. Wat je krijgt is commerciële sell-out pop. Het is geen mega slecht album maar het mist volledig authenticiteit en diepgang. Wel een beetje kenmerkend voor hair en glam metal. Maar dan nog is dit uitermate oninteressant.

Enorm gecontroleerd en gedisciplineerd. Totaal geen concessie op de kwaliteit terwijl het wel echt hard en duister is. Een perfecte uitvoering van death met trash gecombineerd. Enige nadeel is wel dat je akkoord moet gaan met de cookie monster growl hier en daar.

Luisterde garbage nooit omdat ik het neppe zooi vond dus ging er al me redelijk wat vooroordelen in. Luisterde dit album terwijl ik aan het koken was en vond het meteen weer kut. Toen afgezet. Ochtend erna in de trein de realisatie dat ik dit album nog niet had afgeluisterd dus begon mijn dag weer kut. Toch maar besloten om het opnieuw te luisteren vanaf het begin. En toen klikte het ineens. Kon het waarderen. Vooral hoe sterk de verschillende stijlen zijn gecombineerd. Hazy tonen en Shirley Manson echt heel goed in het switchen tussen stijlen. Klasse album.
