Honestly, I’ve not been the biggest hip-hop / rap fan, but this album was a pleasant surprise. It wasn’t something I’d choose to listen to again, but I didn’t hate listening to it.
I love the unique idea of “each band member gets his own song for the album”. It’s a super fun concept that gives the album flavor, though there are better Yes albums out there

Stanford said this was the best album ever. It wasn’t, but it gets just a bit better every time I listen to it. Always slightly better than I imagine, still didn’t like the explicit nature of it

Back in ‘22, I decided to listen to every XTC album, because I enjoyed the hits. I stopped that challenge at Oranges & Lemons, I couldn’t bring myself to go further, regardless the total length of any XTC album, it’s always 20 minutes too long. Remembering what I do from XTC, this album was nothing like what I expected, it was pleasant, but it dragged for like 20 minutes. It still might be a top 3 XTC album (After the Black Sea and English Settlement), but that doesn’t mean anything coming from me.
I don’t even know where to begin with this or how to judge it. I’m at a complete loss of words, not positively or negatively.
Too cliche and dated. Not an 80’s pop fan, and this is just excessively 80’s. It feels more like a product of its time than a real album experience. “Time After Time” isn’t bad though
This is just mediocre butt rock. Actually, Mediocre is putting it nicely, I didn’t enjoy very much of this at all. It was too much of a “look at how well I can play this guitar” as much as it was genuinely compelling music.

How is this one of the best selling studio albums of all time? The album cover does not match its music, and none of the songs feel like worth buying the record over. I don’t know, guess I’ll never understand being a dad on a boat in the late 70’s
This is a Jett five for me. Leads me to believe that there actually is something to Neil Young that maybe I haven’t noticed before
I feel uncomfortably numb after hearing this one. Those vocals are not it.
I think I prefer Madness. (This and One Step Beyond came out on the same day in 1979)
I don’t see this the same as everyone else. It’s a fine album. There’s nothing wrong with it, but Bowie’s peak was the run of Station to Station, Low, Heroes This is just a handful of good tracks and another handful of slightly less good tracks. I would never hate this album, but I must be missing why even thinks it’s *so* good

What is even the point? Every song is the same. Find a three chord riff, find one phrase to be repeated as a chorus, then write substance-less verses based on said phrase, then put that together sounding like a screaming Marge Simpson. Ridiculous

Probably Leonard Cohen’s best album probably
Probably the easiest five star so far. Gave my copy a spin and let it run as I played Pokemon White. I still remember listening to it for the first time. His folk approach into making what is now “rock music” changed the idea of songwriting, and has really influenced my own lately. Plus, “Ballad of a Thin Man” has gotta be one of my favorite songs out there. Though the album could’ve excelled even further had he chosen to put on “Positively 4th Street” in place of something else, it’s still easily one of my favorite albums of the decade and possibly of all time.
Once you learn that the author of ‘1001 albums’ hasn’t listened to the albums, sometimes one generates, and you wonder, in this case “I bet he only put this album here to counter claims he doesn’t include music from around the world” and so I come into this album with low expectations, as my research for the album felt uber limited.
So I end up surprised when I end up really enjoying the sounds on this album, it really is something nice that I never would’ve even discovered if not for this list. As oddball of an inclusion it is, and whatever reason its inclusion may be, I am here for it
This music is like if you mixed the 2000’s indie rock I like with the 2010’s indie rock I don’t like.
Must’ve been the wind
I usually hate live albums. I feel like the appeal to live music is being there, and the sound on any live album format isn’t super worth it.
That being said, this was a very good listening experience. I enjoyed the talking a bit more than the music. As a listening experience it was five stars. Though, as an album musically, it felts something subpar of such a high rating. I’ll meet those in the middle and give it a four. Loved the experience, but probably won’t be revisiting it any time soon.

“Oh look at me swinging my balls around.” Even when I used to listen to Get a Grip, I knew the late 80’s wasn’t a good time for them.
The albums name describes how I feel about it already. Though I came in with an open mind, and my feelings shifted from one star to two, because it sucks, and I don’t like it, but it’s good at what it sets out to do.
This album is dated (Just listen to the percussion) and pseudo-edgy. She clearly still sounds like the pop music made both before and after this, no amount of guitars can’t cloak that from me. It’s definitely a snapshot of post grunge history, and the beginning of the reason why eventually The Strokes will get the praise they did
Thank you for being enjoyed by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Bob Dylan, so they could convert it into better music
