If I transport myself to a time when this record wasn’t out definitely a landmark in rock
Love Nick Drake but this was really boring. I get his contribution to music and this was his debut but sometimes someone’s best is not their debut.
Not a hip hop fan but I can see the landmark quality
Not a hip hop fan but I can see the landmark quality
In the trip hop genre or electronica this may have been a hit in 91 but give me Portisheads dummy any day
Never heard of it. Didn’t get it. Good music thiugh
I know he’s beloved and timeless. Definitely in the singer/songwriter genre this was defining
Hit after hit after hit! This was the first album I ever owned. A legendary piece of music history!
As a kid born in the late 70’s I was exposed to Motown and old R&B early and often. Had this been the first record I ever heard I would say it was great. However, in the pantheon of great singer and songs of this genre it was very forgettable
Wasn’t available on any streaming service
I like Morrissey but this is not his best
This was all the songs you never heard from the Beach Boys and I can totally see why. This album was horrible
As far as hip hop/electronic fusion goes this was unique and interesting. Definitely a lot of creativity and use of a variety of cultural sounds. Not my taste, but at least different than: “pimps, hoes, I’m better than you, I’m rich, I want to shoot everyone who disrespects me in sight.”
I don’t mind weird music, but weird music that seems like the band was completely uninterested in being here is the worst. This is probably one of the top 10 worst albums I have ever heard. At least it made me want to turn it off and listen to Failure
Mad respect for Prince and his contribution to music. His influence is everywhere and his talent is undeniable. None of these songs are my favorites of his, but if the people love it I get it.
Oh yeah! Definitely belongs on the list. Pure emotion from the the alternative gods!
Not my thing she was talented though. Her voice sounds the same in every song to me.
Bob Marley was a cultural legend. I didn’t enjoy this collection of songs particularly but his greatest hits: Legend was on for an entire summer in probably 93-94.
I’m sure this was a good soundtrack to this film. This is nothing I would listen to again. Soundtracks are important to film, but not so much on a playlist
An immortal classic. Great music, songwriting, it should be in everyone’s collection
It’s the beginning of the 90’s and Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice and Chains have not broken through. I can hear the influence in all those bands in this record. No memorable tracks or good singles, but they definitely forged the way
I had literally never heard of this artist or a single song. I believe it could be released as new music today and be wildly popular alongside some of the outlaw country or Americana music. A pleasant surprise from the past
I could have listened to the whole album, but I also could listen to two songs and tell you that I’m sure this is great music, but outside of the context of dancing it does absolutely nothing for me. Props to the Spanish/Carrib culture for their outstanding contribution to music, food, dancing, and just overall awesomeness.
I’ve listened to Miles Davis before and he is a master at his craft. To jazz enthusiasts I’m sure this is a masterpiece, but it just sounds like a bunch of musicians who hit “record” and played for nearly two hours.
This album influenced nothing positive in music. Never liked anything they did and never respected their music
None of their best songs are on this album
I will take your word for it
Never latched on to this band as a fan. There’s definitely some good songs. The lead singers voice gets on my nerves after a while
Lost interest after 3 songs. Not good music at all
Talented singer and deep lyrics, but does nothing for me.
Decent Indie rock. No memorable aongs
A timeless classic from a rock legend
A legendary duo but no memorable songs on this.
A forgettable album by a band to at sounds like 12 other bands from the same time
I don’t even know how this album got recorded. Terrible. Never even made it through three songs before I was completely annoyed
This album was on every 90’s kids shelf and in every cd album. Zero t shirts were everywhere. I prefer their first three records, but the influence of this one is undeniable
Al Green is awesome. Love his music. This album is representative of his best, but a lot of these old school guys have greatest hits albums that are much better
Guess you had to be there. Lame
Uh. What?! I guess this is what most of the rest of the world goes through when they listen to American music. Somewhere I’m sure this artist is packing out stadiums, but not for me.
Not available to listen to
Absolute musical gospel. This band and album should be in a museum. Their influence is felt every day
A tragic loss of a fine talent, but her music all sounds exactly the same to me. Wonderful voice.
Cool music but no catchy hits
Interesting record. Not my style and probably nothing I would seek out, but I can see the appeal
I have never been a Beatles fan. Their music just does nothing for me however they are the most influential group of musicians ever to come together undeniable talent, undeniable ability.
Not sure when this album falls in their discography, but it’s definitely “them.” A good representation of a great band with an unmistakable sound. None of my favorite songs, but still solid.
Not a huge jazz fan, but I’m sure this was a classic in its day
Absolutely nothing special here. It’s definitely in the genre. The artist spends time talking about how great she is, materialistic, and a slave to her desires and cravings. This has been done to death
This is quite possibly the worst collection of music I have ever heard. Terrible recording, boring music. This doesn’t represent the genre well at all
First time hearing this band. Had I given them a listen when this came out I probably would have been hooked.
This is legendary music. You can hear the influence on so much that came after this.
Not their best album but proof that hip hop doesn’t have to have every other word profanity to be great.
This bands place in music history was solidified long before they became classic rock. Their influence is everywhere, but what’s interesting is how blusey their early work was. They owe a huge debt to the blues community that probably doesn’t have much recorded and whose names are long forgotten
Definitely unique for the time period but this album can’t make up its mind what it wants to be.
Well, Running Up That Hill is a great song and thanks to Stranger Things for reminding us. This record is very unique other than that song. Not my taste but Kate Bush has endured for many years for some reason. This album won’t be added to my playlist, but she’s a legend.
Not a bad listen at all. I like their sound. This is one of those bands I have heard of for years and couldn’t name a song or a sound to save my life. A good listen
I bought this album when it was released on the mere fact it had a sticker on it that said something regarding Dave Matthew’s - whom I followed like crazy at the time. This album turned out to be one of the defining albums of the soundtrack of my own life. Great record. Not a bad song anywhere on it.
Legends. Masters. Whatever you want to label this band they are rock, blues, messiahs. So many people owe so much to bands like this. This is a live album which normally makes me cringe, but this one works
Among his peers, he is a legend, but I don’t like one song on this album. I would rather listen to the labyrinth soundtrack, which I’m sure is not his best work.
I’m sure there’s an audience out there for this, but it is nothing I will ever listen to again. It’s oddly recorded and mastered, and I get the vintage sound they were probably going for. Sounds like Rolling Stones with a lot of profanity and a punk rock edge.
Never really listened to this band. Cool sound, but nothing really grabs me.
I have never listened to a Beastie Boys album. They have some great tracks, but I can’t ever get into these guys for more than a song or two. They are unique and legendary on the scene though
After the success of OK computer I feel like this band decided they could do whatever they want and release it and people would gobble it up as art and creative and awesome. This is awful. It is drivel and lazy sounding. Cannot stand anything they have made since OK Computer which is unbelievably great
So this is an album. You definitely had to transport yourself back to 1976 to appreciate I would have to say coming out of the disco era and the yacht rock that was available at the time this would have been transcendent punk is not my favorite, but I bet this was groundbreaking for the time.
Sorry guys when I can’t get into even one song after 4 songs I’m done. I know there’s an audience for this band, but I don’t like it
Sorry. Can’t listen to on principle
