I listened to this album in April 2025 and gave it 2.9/5
2.6/5
I've never liked the doors and I've never understood the fascination with them, but I didn't mind this album to be honest. Might have to give them another chance. Not that big a fan of the keyboards though and some of the long songs. Light my fire is a great track but it's brought down by the massive long bridge. If it was a tight 3.30-4min song I'd love it more.
3/5
Imagine is an all time track but the rest of the album was good too. I could definitely relisten to this one and bump it up but I enjoyed it for what it is.
0.5/5
I sometimes listen to jazz in the background when I just want something in the background and I could see myself putting on some Fela Kuti but I couldn't listen to it by itself. Very repetitive and when they are 12-13min songs it ends up being a looooong listen. I actually didn't mind these songs, but after 4-5mins of each track I grew tired and weary.
2.7/5
Solid album. I've only heard a few Bob Marley songs before but this was pretty good. Could definitely put this on again.
2.7/5
Hallelujah is an all time great song.
2.5/5
A few good songs but I only rated 3 songs 3/5 so it gets a 2
1.4/5
Honestly, I wouldn't put this in the top 10,000 albums of all time, let alone the top 1,000. I'm not sure what people hear in this. If someone put this on and didn't mention it was on this list I would have said it was a college band's first and only album from the early 90's and it had less than 1,000 listens on Spotify. The only half decent song is the first track "Firefly". I could barely make it through the rest of the songs.
1.6/5
I feel bad for rating it so low but it's just not my style of music. The instruments and singing were solid but if I'm rating this on what music I like to listen too, this ain't it.
1.4/5
Can't say I enjoyed this. She's a good singer and the music was fine but I nearly fell asleep listening to this.
0.9/5
I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop so I didn't like this. They had some cool rhymes and samples but overall nothing that I would ever want to come back too.
Disc 1 - 0.6/5
Disc 2 - 0.8/5
Total - 0.7/5
As someone who doesn't like rap/hip hop this was an absolute chore to get through at over 2hrs.
Hey ya & Roses on the Outkast album are such outliers on this record. The rest is slow, rap heavy, with silly interludes that add nothing. I think if this was 10-11 of the best songs I'd give it more of a chance and rate this higher instead of nearly 40 songs which are mostly filler.
1.2/5
For someone who doesn't like rap or hip hop, I actually didn't mind this. Would I put it on again? Doubt it, but I could actually listen to this without skipping songs or wanting to turn it off like some of the other rap stuff I've heard.
2.4/5
A couple of good songs but I've never understood the fascination with Radiohead.
2.7/5
Really solid first 7 songs and then it all sort of drops off towards the end. I haven't listened to any Beatles albums before so it nice to hear the non singles tracks.
2.4/5
Some ok songs but nothing amazing.
3/5
Actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this.i will definitely give this another listen in the future
0.8/5
This has never been my style of music and this album did nothing to change my opinion. I've only heard where's your head at, and I actually like that song but unfortunately it's not on this album.
2.1/5
I've never understood the fascination with the Arcade Fire. It's the type of music that is playing when you walk into a coffee shop. Feels more like background music than one of the greatest albums ever released.
1.1/5
I didn't mind the first 2 tracks but im not that big into funk and soul so some of these songs were pretty repetitive.
0.7/5
I could listen to 1 track every now and then but the whole album just sounds the same to me. I can't knock the sound quality and the performance, especially for 1958. It sounds better than some music released today but this is not an album I would want to listen to again.
1.5/5
I can't deny the pipes she had but it's not my type of music.
2.8/5
Never heard of this band before but I really dug the sound. I will definitely be checking out their back catalogue. I'm sure if I listened to this a few more times I'd probably rate it a 4 but still a solid listen first time.
2.5/5
While I haven't heard alot of Bob Dylan's music I do like this album. Tambourine man is the stand out track and it's a good album but nothing too amazing.
1.3/5
Sure the music was solid but it just felt like background music.
0.8/5
I don't like west coast hip hop or any hip hop to be honest so another tough listen today. A couple songs were a little amusing but nothing I will ever want to revisit.
2.7/5
A solid album although the latter part of the album drags it down abit. I think I've heard this before and didn't mind it.
2.8/5
A nice little album that can be a little bland but I enjoyed the songs.
2/5
I listened to this a few years ago and didn't really like it. A few tracks were good but a lot were just screaming.
2.1/5
I had a mate who used to listen to Eminem all the time so Ive heard alot of these songs many times. A few good songs but so many skits that unfortunately bring this down because I have to skip them. Also the team ups with like D12 etc bored me.
2.3/5.
A nice easy album to listen too but nothing amazing
2/5
Ive heard alot of the bee gees hits and I thought I was going to enjoy this album but i found it very dull and boring. This is also their lowest rated album on rateyourmusic so by that logic all of their other albums should be on this list so hopefully I'll enjoy them more.
2.4/5
Really surprised with this one. Thought I was going to hate it but I was bopping along to most of the album.
A few catchy songs but nothing really wowed me on this album.
2.8/5
Some really good songs on this album but also just some average ones.
1.9/5
I really liked No More Mr Nice Guy but that's about it.
1.5/5
Just not my type of music.
1.1/5
Some nice vocals and instruments but nothing really grabbed me on this album
2.8/5
Some great tracks on here
0.5/5
People who like rap & hip hop would probably love this but for someone who doesn't like this genre, this album honestly felt like 1 continuous song. Nearly every song sounded the same and you could switch half the lyrics and put them into another track and no one would realise
2.2/5
Some good songs but nothing too amazing
2.6/5
Second time I've listened to this and while I enjoy it, it's nothing amazing. The first half is solid but the last 3 songs drag for me.
2.4/5
I'd only heard the singles off this album but I enjoyed the album as a whole mostly.
0.6/5
The only half decent song was bring the noise and that's only because anthrax played on the track. The rest hurt my ears.
2.2/5
Look there's nothing wrong with this album. It has some good songs, some great guitar work but it doesn't do much for me. I hadn't heard of this album before today and I'll probably forget it exists in a week's time.
0.7/5
Maybe if I was stoned off my head in the 70's I would have enjoyed this but this album just felt like 1 continuous instrumental song with random talking through it. Also at over 2 hours long it was a slog.
2.6/5
I listen to an artist named Adam Green and I always thought he was a quirky dude with the way he sang and arranged his songs. After listening to Lou Reed for the first time, I now realise Adam Green must be a massive fan of Reed because they have the same style and quirks. I didn't mind this album on the first listen despite the weirdness so I might have to listen to more Lou Reed music.
1.6/5
I'm a lyrics guy so when listening to a band from Mali who don't sing in English I find it hard to enjoy it as much. The music was solid although it did get a bit repetitive towards the end but it's a solid effort for this band to be included in the top 1001 albums of all time when not to be insensitive, but the majority of people would never had even heard the band let alone the music.
1.5/5
There's nothing really bad about this album but it does nothing for me. It felt like background music and not one of the greatest albums of all time.
0.6/5
Am I missing something? Do I need to be on drugs to appreciate this? I can't understand how this is revered so much. It's so vanilla, boring and uninteresting without any good hooks throughout an hour of music. Look it's not bad music, i'm just confused as to why it's on this list. Perplexed.
2.5/5
Middle of the road rock. Nothing bad about it, nothing amazing. If someone put this on to listen too, I wouldn't be mad, I'd tap along to a few songs but in a few hours I'd probably forget I'd heard it.
2.5/5
It was ok. Nothing amazing. Very simple classic rock.
2.2/5
I've heard Our House thousands of time due to it being the intro to a tv program back in the day and honestly every song that came on I was waiting for that chorus to play because that song is imprinted in my mind and I couldn't shake it. So this album was very samey for me. Not many stand outs.
2.5/5
A few good songs and some not so good songs. I'm sure I would have loved this if I was alive when it came out but now it's just an ok album.
1.1/5
I'm not sure how this made the list but the 80s were a different time. At least it was only 15 mins.
0.5/5
I couldn't even finish this album. It was cancer to my ears. I know this is touted as one of the best rap albums in history but to me, it's one of the worst. I really don't like rap or hip hop and even this albun couldn't get me to like it.
3.1/5
Some absolute bangers on this album and then just some OK songs. Nice easy listening.
1.7/5
Not sure what the hype is about this album. I found it pretty boring and only the hit single was half decent.
1.4/5
I'm not the biggest fan of her voice and it was a pretty bland album. I know she's a big artist but this album didn't really do anything for me.
1.8/5
Not really style of music that I like to listen too. It was ok but pretty forgettable.
I've always been aware of PJ Harvey but don't think I'd ever heard any of her songs. This album was ok..nothing Id revisit. I feel like if I was an angsty teenager or early 20s trying to find my way in the world I'd probably like this more.
A few classic songs on this album that have stood the test of time. I'm surprised how much j enjoyed this album.
2.8/5
A classic album with some great songs but it drags on a little towards the end.
2.1/5
Look this isn't a bad album by any stretch. It's just not my cup of tea. If I heard any of these songs playing on the radio or while I was out somewhere I wouldn't mind, but there's not much on this album that would warrant me to come back to it.
1.9/5
Is this a bad album? No. Is it one I'd listen too again? Probably not. Was I shocked at how many famous songs that I thought were originals, took some of these songs and made them bangers? Yes
1/5
I suppose I could listen to this as background music but I don't understand the hype around it. Cool if you enjoyed it though.
2.2/5
It was ok I guess. Another album I don't see the hype for it.
2.1/5
I've always liked Dylan in small amounts but this was a slog. I understand that around this time, Bob Dylan would change music forever with his songs but listening to it 50 years later it doesn't do much for me. The first disc being the acoustic part really wore me down. I honestly couldn't tell you where one song ended and the next begun as it all blended together. Look, I like Bob Dylan and will still listen to his music but this live album really didn't work for me.
2.4/5
I was surprised at how much I liked it... Well when I saw what I was going to be listening too I didn't have high hopes, but it was a good album. I knew a couple of songs but it was average in the overall scheme of things. I won't be coming back to it, but it's a decent enough listen.
2.7/5
Nothing too amazing but I did enjoy alot of the songs. Im sure with a few more listens I could get around it more but it's decent enough.
2.8/5
Girl from Mars is just a brilliant song. I used to listen to it all the time when it first came out and I never get sick of it. A couple other decent songs on the album and it's one I could probably listen to more in the future.
I listened to this while I was mowing the lawn so probably not the best environment but it was exactly what I was thought it would be. I didn't find anything amazing but generally "nothing" songs for my liking.
1.9/5
Nothing interesting about this for me.
2.1/5
Look, it was ok. There wasn't any really bad songs oh here but on a couple of good songs on this album. It was mostly middle of the road for me.
2.6/5
I love the vibe of this album. I could just see myself listening to this while on holiday looking over the beach having a few drinks. In saying that, a few songs that I didn't really like but I'm sure if I listened to this more I'd rate it higher.
1.5/5
I don't mind some thrash metal every now and then but a whole album is a bit too much for me. I'm probably a bit harsh with my rating but it's not an album I'll revisit. Maybe a couple of songs.
0.6/5
The music is tight and well played but this just sounds like music I'd hear in a hotel lobby. Not my cup of tea.
1.3/5
I've heard a few of the cure's songs and i really like what I've heard so I was excited to listen to this album. I was severely disappointed. It was slow and uninteresting with no real "hits". I'm hoping there are some more Cure albums on this list and they can restore my faith in them.
2.3/5
This album has some solid songs and also some pretty average tunes. Overall not too bad a listen.
0.8/5
Just not my style of music. I found it more enjoyable than the Wu-Tang Clan and public enemy but I still couldn't listen to this again.
0.6/5
Another album that solidifies my dislike for East Coast Hip Hop.
2/5
I'd heard a few songs by Neil Young before and I quite liked them but this album was a disappointment. I only really liked one track and the rest were pretty meh.
2.9/5
I quote enjoyed this album. The only track I didn't really like was the 2nd last song which felt like a really odd choice to put in there. Didn't really fit in with the style, but overall pretty decent.
1.4/5
Yawn. It's not awful to listen too, it's just boring and uninteresting.
2.6/5
I'd heard a couple of songs before but this album was pretty run of the mill for me. Just nice easy listening with not much to complain about but not much to come back too either
2.3/5
Some good songs on this album. I'm not much of a western era type of guy so some of these songs didn't interest me much but I enjoyed listening to it mostly
1.8/5
First time I've heard Leonard Cohen and I was surprised at his style. It's not something I'm usually into but it was an interesting listen. I'm sure if I gave this a few more spins I could appreciate it more but is was just ok.
2.8/5
There was probably only 1 song I'd heard off this album before listening to it, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
1.5/5
She has a great voice and I can see what people love about her music but it's just not my style.
2.7/5
Pretty stock standard stuff but I enjoyed my time and thought most of the songs were pretty good.
1.5/5
Nothing great on this album but I didn't mind some of the tracks. There were some good hooks in there but ultimately it didn't grab me.
0.6/5
I have to say that jazz musicians are excellent at their instruments. With that being said, this just sounds like background jazz music that I could hear anywhere to me. I'm sure if you love jazz then this would be up your alley. I sometimes listen to jazz in the background when I'm trying to concentrate so I could see myself putting some more Bill Evans on, but I'd never intentionally listen to this again.
2.4/5
It was ok. A few of the songs dragged on abit but it wasn't awful to listen too.
1.7/5
I've never understood the fascination with Radiohead and this album didn't do anything to change my mind. A couple of good songs on here but most were pretty average. I enjoyed thier album The Bends more.
1.3/5
Chicago is a great song but other than that, It's a slow boring overhyped album. I was excited to listen to this as I heard that Sufjan was highly touted, but I don't get the appeal of this album.
1.8/5
There wasn't anything bad about this album, it just wasn't really interesting. Run of the mill 80s synth pop that I've never really been a big fan of.
3.3/5
Half of the album wasnt anything to write home about, but all the hits propelled this to new heights. A classic album.
1.1/5
Not a style of music I really enjoy. If I was at a dance club I'd probably like it but not just to listen too.
2.3/5
Nothing too amazing on this album but also nothing too bad. Easy listening.
0.7/5
I've seen the biopic and that was ok but I don't like his music. I've never liked rap and this didn't do anything to change my mind.
1.3/5
The music was ok but I love listening to the lyrics and since they weren't all in English I found it hard to connect too.
2.2/5
Nothing too amazing here but nothing terrible.
2.5/5
Californian Dreaming is the standout but there's not too much else that interests me on this album. It kind of sounds like all the other music around this time. It's not a bad thing, it just doesn't do much for me
2/5
I can appreciate the artistry of the music on this album but nothing really grabbed me.
4.5/5
This is one of my most listened too albums. I remember I only had a few cds in my car when I was younger and this was one of them, so it got a trashing. I haven't listened to it in a long time but it's still as good as it was all those years ago.
1.5/5
Sure it's ambitious, but it's also very long winded and not overly interesting. There's probably 10-11 songs out of the 24 that were half decent. Get rid of the fluff and it would be a pretty good album.
2.6/5
A few good songs but nothing I'm eager to get back too other than Under the Bridge.
1.4/5
Not sure what everyone else hears in this album but I don't get it. A couple of good songs but it just seems a mess.
1/5
A nothing album really. It had some ok beats but alot of the songs went on for too long and were repetitive.
1.5/5
I'm not the biggest fan of Bowie and this didn't do anything to sway me liking his music anymore.
