Not one weak song. The chauffeur is incredible
Particularly enjoyed Sway on this occasion
Epically mature debut album
Quirky. Every song feels different
Weezer meets Alice in chains
Maybe even preferred it to IV. The song thank you reminded me of Nikki Kings. That one true love
A poor man's Shins. Nothing real stood out. Not offensive
Not one standout song to add to my 1001 playlist. It's just not that kind of album. However, this is like the best background music ever. In the right environment and mood this album hits right
This is not the Eminem album I wanted to listen to. Feels too late in his career and full of self referential stuff.
Not a fan of the genre but you have to respect his wordsmith skills.
The fat, Butlins entertainer from Take That. Painful stuff but I committed to listen to every album thrown at me. This was my biggest test yet.
The horns and piano were off putting at tikes. Springsteen is a little American cringe but I enjoyed this
Springsteen trying to be Dylan. It's ok though
I prefer earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Maybe more of a 3.8 out of 5. Such a brilliant album though
Not sure how this made this list. No need to listen to this before you die
More like a 3.8 but certainly a very good album. There aren't many better openings to an album that this
Simply great.. the emotions it evokes. Would love to see this album performed live by them. Wake up was a standout upon this listen
More of a 2.8. Good gym music at the beginning but became annoying
Post Hendrix guitars in the sesame street style
Elvis does country. Not my bag
Not as good as demon days but still very good
I just can't bring myself to like this
2 good songs bookmarked by mediocrity
Quality stuff. Just not my bag
One of those albums that needs way more listening to fully appreciate
Not Dylan's best but still Dylan
It's a truly, dreamy, uplifting album. One of those where I just can't understand where people have rated it low.
Imagine listening to this is 1969. Beyond cool. It's a 3.8 for me
Like a poor 6th form band. No idea why this is on the list
Banger after banger. There aren't many albums as consistently great as this
Like Duran Duran but without the immediately catchy tunes. May be a grower
Probably a 3.5. Tons of country fun but a disc too long
Who knew the pretenders are actually decent
Nothing outstanding outside of songs I already knew
Chill out dude. Still fun whilst listening at the gym
Yeah I really like this album. All my friends is the standout track. Exhilarating
This is a very Mercury music prize kinda album
Not REM's best but a timeless and classic band nonetheless with some quality songs. More like a 3.9. Still great
Fragile egos, misogyny, the n word and dicks, with some great beats. How good is Snoop on this though?!
Terrible. Rock for nerds. There is nothing authentic about this at all. Feels so fake and forced
Crunchy guitars, gravelly vocals and a whole load of deep Southery. What's not to like?!
Think James, but without the talent or good songs. Blinded by the light is the only decent track. An odd album to be on this list
A classic. Not a huge Blur fan but this particular album is great
A great album. The Cure are way more than just "Friday I'm in love"
Not my bag but interesting
A soundtrack to Simba dying on the Lion King
Bluesy, gravelly, alcoholic loveliness
I enjoyed this at first but annoying after a while
Before Fiona Apple was annoying
Not as terrible as I expected. However,(controversial opinion maybe) reggae music in general is just boring and one dimensional
One of my favourite surprises on this list so far. Way ahead of their time and must have been highly influential
Never been a Pulp fan but some of this is very good indeed. 3/4 out of 5
Yeah, not for me. A strange choice for the list
I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would
More bluesy than a blue thing
If Morrissey was female....
And rubbish....
And had a rubbish, hotel lobby backing band.
An extra star for the opening track
I listened before I died. I can't imagine I'll be listening again before I do
A somewhat return to form before the epicness of black star
Almost a 5. I have a really affinity with this album
One of the seminal albums of my youth. It still sounds so punchy, crunchy and fresh today.
Normally when bands "mature" they lose their edge. There is none of that here. Raw but well produced. Just an incredible album
The 3rd best of his 3 albums but still incredible
The Charlatans by numbers. A couple of acceptable tracks but mostly way past their best. A 2.5 for me
4 stars for Iraq lobster alone
A couple of real bangers on there
I liked it but there's something missing. Authenticity or the nostalgic link?
Abrasive and chaotic yes, but still pretty good
This was a big surprise. Really enjoyed it
I know, I know, the greatest album of all time. But I don't have the historical context of how groundbreaking it was. Still great obviously
Just an outstanding album
Guitar solo overload. If there is such a thing
It doesn't get more iconic and nostalgic. When energy meets timing
For anyone who rated this lower than 3 stars....
You just haven't invested enough time in it.
A truly great album
I really can't stand the pet shop boys and this reinforced that
Really enjoyed this. More of a 3.5
Nothing outstanding but ok.
Dad rock, but bloody good dad rock
4 stars for the album cover alone
A masterpiece. I didn't realise I liked this album so much
There are a few duff songs in here but this gets 4 stars because the great songs carry this album on their own. Particularly Oh Father.
Early Madonna for the win.
One great song and a whole lotta other stuff
Really quite pleasant on the ears
Maybe my mood, but didn't connect with this at all
Granted I am a huge Radiohead fan. This is probably my 6th favourite album of theirs (mainly because of how overplayed it became). However it's still a masterpiece and Paranoid Android just may be the greatest song of all time.
Synchronicity indeed.
At least 3 really strong songs
I never used to like Bowie when I was growing up. I saw him as the arty middle class bloke in amongst the grungey grimy image I wanted from my rock stars. Then I heard Ziggy stardust and it completely changed my mind.
Since then I have fully immersed myself in all things Bowie. An incredible artist in the true sense of the word. Constantly reinventing himself and someone who expressed a true love of life both through his art and how he seemingly lived his life.
In amongst all of that reinventing there were lots of things I didn't particularly care for. His later 80's and 90's phase was mostly not for me. The Next Day is somewhat a return to form. However, this album is just truly incredible. He sounds like a fresh artist at the peek of his powers. Add the context that he knew of his impending death and this is one of my favourite pieces of art ever created. The music video to Lazarus gets me every time. Full of gut wrenching symbolism. Allied to the fact that very little was known of his illness at the time, this was a fella completely devoted to his art form and art in general. True greatness and someone who single handedly changed the way this planet looks. He truly left his mark. Much respect Mr Bowie.
I love you like a fat kid loves cake.
Lyrical genius
A tad cringe. She's always a woman is a great song though
I can't stand Prince. He's a creepy little fucker. This was terrible. I just don't get it at all. Lyrically and musically complete trash
It's not Dookie or Insomniac, but not as terrible as I thought it may be
I just found this muddled and annoying. Cool album cover though
How can a 47 year old white dude write any sort of meaningful review about this? Snoop was clearly talented and this is a highly skilled album. Not my bag but clearly really good. I'm sure he'll be pleased to know I think that
Joy Division are so unique that you either just feel it or you don't. I very much do
Running a fine line between euphoric and making my skin crawl
Such a great album to this day. I was bought this 26 years ago as a present on CD as a 21 year old just starting a relationship with my child's mum. This and Moby's Play. What a time to be alive.
Maybe nostalgia carries this a long way for me, but isn't that what music is all about anyway.
A sprawling, meandering album. I can see why people would both love and hate this.
The fresh prince meets NWA
One thing I have learnt from this project is that I am very particular with Bush. This Bush was not for me.
Gorillaz meets Blur. I really enjoyed this
I can hear the Ramones, Velvet underground and Nirvana in this. That can't be a bad thing. A great album
Like others have said, this is musically all over the shop and not in a good way. Saved only by Salisbury Hill and the Hypgnosis album cover
Fine for background music. Couldn't pick a single song in a line up.
Ten is just the perfect album. There is not one bad song. Black may just be the most powerful song of all time in terms of lyrics and emotion.
Incredible stuff, and this was a debut album. Crazy
I find Joni Mitchell annoying. I've tried to like her but I just don't get it. Maybe I need to be a middle aged female
Not a fan of Annie Lennox at all.
I literally have nothing to say about this album.
Ok....cool album cover
Was not expecting much at all but had great fun cleaning the house to it. Maybe a 3.5
People who say this is like the Smiths really must not like the Smiths
I'm a big pixies fan. One of the best gigs I've ever been to was one of theirs. They just hit harder than other bands. This album had lots that was surprisingly unfamiliar to me. Needs a few more listens to properly judge. It's unrelentingly great though.
Raw and unpolished Foo Fighters. A superb album with multiple banging songs on it
The English Ramones. It's fine but I can't see this changing anyone's life
Rap is the one genre of music I just can't connect with no matter how hard I try. I'm not even sure how to write a review.....
I didn't like it.
Yeah son! No what I'm sayin'?!
Yes it's more than a little cringey, but it's great fun in most parts
Really fun. Rode the line of being annoying at times but an album full of youthful energy and some very good songs
Some good crunchy guitars but no really my bag. It all sounded quite samey and reminded me of Beavis and Butthead
This is all over the shop.
Like a bat shit mental Nick Drake
Yeah, this is pretty terrible with very brief glimpses of fun. I can't even tell if this is supposed to be ironic. I'm guessing probably not
After a recent poor run on this list I was not hopeful at all. I was wrong. This is instantly really enjoyable. I think it needs a few more listens to really identify the standout tracks but I did particularly enjoy I've Been Dazed and Piano Joint.
Cool album cover.
Not my thing but not unpleasant. Chilled, soft background music
I thought I didn't like the divine comedy and this album only served to reaffirm that. I just don't get it. Are they supposed to be funny? They certainly aren't good. The leaf singer's voice is annoying and posh.
One review stated they're like a Pulp parody. I certainly see that. A really terrible one
I thought I may like this but just found it mostly annoying.
I do currently have a cold though and everything is shitter with a cold
This is a good example of something I've been told is good, I should like it, but there's something I just can't connect with. Lyrically I just find it off for some reason. It's not terrible but not great in my opinion.
Really enjoyable on a sunny day
Jesus H Christ, this is an incredible album. An absolute assault on the ears. Towering walls of sound on each track. More organ crescendos than a Hans Zimmer score. It completely knocked my socks off.
Wu Lyf meets MGMT meets the War on Drugs.
Shame they are no longer going as I reckon they would have been incredible live. Stupid abuse allegations!
It's like this app knows it's incredibly sunny at the moment. Is there a better album to be driving along to on a sunny day with the windows down? I'm not sure there is you know
One of the very first albums that started my obsession with music. Obviously it's been overplayed to death but it remains an absolute classic. Rocket queen still hits as hard as it ever did.
The epitome of a grower of an album. I remember the whole pay what you want jobby when this was released. I naturally paid nothing but was still somehow disappointed. Oddly after Ok Computer this felt too experimental for my liking. Radiohead doing dance music? The world just didn't make sense anymore. Fast forward however many years it's been and this is more often than not my favourite Radiohead album. Which is a high bar indeed as they are all incredible.
There's a lot of fat on this album but there are 5 or 6 great songs and overall it's a great soundtrack to a summer by the sea
The best jazz album I've heard on this list. Which isn't saying too much as I'm not a fan of jazz music
Smoother than a shaved nutsack
Poxy music
Like a really uncool, not talented Talking Heads
