Not for me, but a fine album for some I am sure.
Wasn't expecting this music from The Cure, it was delightfully "down tempo".
I wanted to like it more but there was just something lacking that I can't put a name to.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should. The sounds on this album were quite unsettling.
I nearly stopped listening as it was making me physically ill.
A good mix of genres, some tracks were unsettling, but most were listenable.
I can understand why those just a few years older than I am were in love with Black Sabbath it was ground breaking for the times.
I don't know what came first wizard murals on vans or Black Sabbath, but I am sure there is some correlation.
Cool tones, had trouble making out the lyrics but I think that they would be profound.
Nice chill listen while your work music.
This one was all over the musical map, some tracks were great some less so. The one that sounded like Bobby McFerrin was my favorite.
Very repetitive, but that was the norm for the time.
Not all hits, and a couple of tracks sound like bad Beetles.
Good Ol' Western music of it's time. Reminds me of hard times trying to relate to my step dad, and of my sister singing on the porch.
Some good covers of known songs
Brought back memories of my misspent youth.
Some innovative beats for the time that are repeated throughout the album
I had no idea how versatile an artist they are, wow!
I was surprised that I never heard of this group, as I was into this vibe back when the album was released. In the end it started to sound like it was a generic form of the music from this time.
Better base than I had expected, but in the end sounded like generic soundtrack for the time.
Well I listened to it, not a bad album, I didn't like the "warbling", but that could just be due to it being a sign that something isn't right when setting up audio circuits.
Having been a big Alice Cooper fan, I found myself overwhelmed by this album, perhaps it was the head space I was in at the time of re-listening to it. I cleared my head with some Tubular Bells.
Poignant lyrics by a beautiful voice
Latin rap, for a guy who is meh about both genres
There have and always be angry young men, I think more so in Great Brittan, this album is that in audible form.
Give me some of that ol time rock n roll
I was the surprised by the way this album walked between jazz and soul.
A lot of screaming, I wasn't in the right mood for this album.
I am looking for background music with these 1001 albums, I found this album to be background noise. Perhaps if I was in a different mind set at the time of listening my evaluation would be different.
If you were wondering where the cross were it is right her on this album, blues meets jazz. As a baby baby boomer this is one of the groups I knew existed but never really experienced.
Loved it, a lot of that is because I never heard of the artist before, the other part of it was that it fits my soundscape quite well.
There were ups, and there were downs. Some awesome bass, and some definite Beetles vibes.
Did not like, angry screaming young man.
Great old school harmonies, and instrumentals. While listening I heard how music transitioned from 50's be bop, to 60's surfer music. I never made that connection before.
40% of it was okay, the rest was showing off guitar skills.
Great grooves, chilling and pumping somehow at the same time.
Exactly what one would expect, with a nice cover thrown in.
Straight ahead rock n roll from the early 70's
Some of these song lyrics have not aged well. This takes me back to driving out to the farm as a kid.
Some nice female vocal neo-soul
I had heard this distinctive voice before but never knew who it was.
This is a classic album for a reason!
Better than I was expecting
These tunes slotted themselves right into my aural esthetic.
Very much hear some Bowie in this album.
This album was perfect for it's time, and every time. The harmonies are superb.
The right music for the mood I wanted to be in.
A classic with only a couple of C grade tracks.
Some now classic hip hop.
A great album, without too many surprises.
Still finding his feet but better than a lot of albums recommended on here.
1.5 unfamiliar tracks on this one, I personally thought he peaked with "The Wall"
After a while all the tracks became the same. How fast can you pic a banjo string. I didn't realize this was a 2 disc set, then bonus tracks.
I liked the Joni Mitchel cover.
Sounds good, we were all young once.
Pretty good album, but hasn't aged well in my opinion.
Listen to One Of Those Things and not think about Werewolves in London, I dare you.
Back in the day when pot was less potent, but the penalty was much worse, is when this album is from.
Has a good beat, easy to dance to, unfortunately my Anglo-Saxon hips would embarrass the rest of me if I were to try to dance to this. Fortunately I was alone in my office. Unfortunately the window is transparent. Fortunately I don't care.
My reviews often talk of angry young men making recordings, well this is a breath of fresh air from an angry young woman making a recording.
As I am no longer young a lot of this music isn't for me.
I had never heard of this group, and I can't say I am sad about it. Not my cup of tea.
So this is who the Smiths are, I had heard of them, but wasn't sure if I ever "Heard" them.
One hit, the rest was background?
Not for the me I am now. but maybe for the me that was?
Not as good as I had hoped.
Good old fashioned music to listen to. I am sure the lyrics are deep, but I didn't listen for them.
This is what pop music should be.
Familiar voices, familiar instrumentation, just no familiar songs to sing along with.
Wow that album was short. Good things come in small packages.
There is more depth in this album than I remember.
Not a fan of real rock, I like mine softer.
Some fantastic bass lines
They still needed some work at this point, but are well on their way to greatness.
Good but maybe not for me, getting old you know.
I have heard of this artist, but I don't think I have heard this artist, thank you for this opportunity.
A great voice, a great message, and a great person!
Another band I have heard of but not heard.
They have a lot of range.
Excellent, energetic album!
Pretty good stuff for a an old guy like me.
Seven solid tracks of it's time
Not all of them were hits, but they could have been.
Not for me, but good for what it is.
Still holds up after all this time, I had no idea that the drummer was that good.
Overall I preferred Breakfast in America but this is a good one too.
The beginnings of something new, that is very old.
This must have been what all the other kids who were into "alternative" music were listening to while I was in high school. I guess I was more into the new wave to have discovered this then. If I had my life may have been different, or I would have just tuned it out?
Never heard of them, the music was good, just not great.
This is a great album for letting music wash over you while doing something else. I think it would be a great album if you were doing nothing else as well.
Why has it taken so long for me to hear this album? The width and breath of her talent is amazing, very cinematic at times.
You can't judge a band by their cover, or their name, I was expecting bluegrass, and instead got something else. What is was I am not exactly sure.
As a baby baby boomer, I have lived at the edge of time where this music was popular, so I don't get it, but those who were older in my life were formed by this music, so this explains somethings.
Every generation has it's angry young man music, this was mine. I do think that this was the peak of the genre!
Listened to it twice and nothing stuck with me.
I now know where Laurie Anderson got some of her inspiration
The very definition of the genre.
Love the bass lines, and the Hammond B organ.
There is no way that this album is 24 years old!
This album has stood the test of time.
More rock and less funk than I expected
Good album but not their best
This sounds like the music my dad listened to in his den smoking weed.
I do like it.
Pretty good for the genre, but the message is not my message.
Hey they were the Doors very much a product of their time while being ahead of their time.
A wonderful voice, I am just not sure if it has anything to say.
Lounge meets country at times.
Good not great, listening to the entire album became repetitive.
This is the western side of country and western music. Nostalgic for sure, but a good listen.
The counter culture at it's finest.
I am sure that there is a deep message in this album. I didn't hear it.
I heard it, I don't remember it.
This is going onto the soundtrack to a character I need to play from time to time who is an ex car bomber. This is the peak of angry young man music.
Background music with an edge? Soundtrack to a story I have not heard?
Trying to unsettle the settled of the time.
