1001 Albums Summary

OK, I love Daft Punk and a lot of what's on here is some great Daft Punk material. And then a lot of it is just kind of typical orchestral movie soundtrack stuff. You could tell this is a movie soundtrack without being told. Just a bunch of dramatic, intense-sounding pieces that were clearly playing during some high-drama scene. I'm not a fan of movie soundtracks.

man, I listened to that earlier today and now I seriously can't even remember what it sounded like. I do remember thinking "that was ok, I guess I'll give it a 3." But upon further reflection, an album that forgettable doesn't deserve a 3.

Because the original list didn't have enough 90s brit-pop... But, really, I didn't hate it all. It's sub-3 but I'll round up.

A genre I never got super in to but is always fun to listen to or see live.

jeez, if I didn't know better I would have thought this was the original list. More jangly late 80s/early 90s indie Brit pop. It's not bad but it's also just kind of boring. 2.5 rounding down.

screamo. I like some of it but then it gets kind of tedious. I'm a big fan of the heavy stuff but this genre doesn't really speak to me. 2.5 rounding down.

here's a name I've heard but didn't know her work at all. Very unique vocals, cool mix of bluegrass, blues, country.

Saw this and thought, "phew, glad someone added this one." So good.

Whoa, Japanese Kraftwerk! These guys are fun

I don't really like most pop or hip hop. Some of this was pretty cool but still didn't do it for me.

would I rate this as high if I were hearing it for the first time now? Probably not. But this and their next album came out when I was 14 or 15 and was in heavy rotation on the alternative rock radio station I listened to and part of that soundtrack of my youth. I might even have this CD kicking around somewhere.

Finding some really solid fan submissions here. This is one of those.

not enough mushrooms for me to enjoy this album. There were moments it piqued my interest. The only saving it from a 1 star.

apparently I only know Muse via their radio hits. Pretty sure I haven't heard anything from this album. Loved it. Time to listen to more Muse.

I guess I know why I pretty much have only listened to his greatest hits. I genuinely like most of those songs. But, DAMN, this guy was prolific. Seems like he was churning out a ton of "I'm drunk in the Caribbean" slop with a few gems mixed in.

wow... this is really just not good. With a name like Poets of the Fall, I guess that's not surprising.

A two-hit-wonder folk/soft rock act from the 70s. I had a feeling this wasn't going to land for me. There were some moments that I did perk up for but, overall, this was not my jam.

At first I wasn't totally sold but this is pretty adjacent to a lot of stuff I love, like The Mountain Goats or AJJ. I'll check out more. 3.25 rounding down.

Love me some Ty Segall. I really need to listen to more of his stuff. This guy is PROLIFIC!

Kind of fun 80s pop. It's a soft 3 for me but I'd listen to more of their stuff.

How do I now know about this guy or the bands he led before going solo? Great indie punk rock

I keep trying to like The Weeknd. I'll hear a song like Blinding Lights get excited and then I'll dig a little deeper and it's just too pop. This album has some great stuff. Very synthwavey. But it's still a pop star doing synthwave. If I wanted vocal synthwave I'd listen to The Midnight or Gunship. But I do really enjoy a few of the tracks on this record.

One of these bands I keep hearing about but haven't spent much time on. Unique blend of punk and indie rock I guess. Glad to see something that hews more toward "real" punk rock is blowing up rather so much of the pop punk that is has gone mainstream. 3.5 rounding up
