Reviews (page 11 of 13)

I can appreciate the influence that Björk had, but she is not for me.

The instrumentation is the most captivating part of this album. The use of many different instruments throughout is noticeable and enjoyable. Her voice is very powerful but overall the songs are too avant garde and electronic/dance for me to come back for more.

Kinda strange songs, some jazz influences, real experimental. Would not listen to all the time.

Oh Bjork - you lovely weirdo! Generally like a lot of Bjork but this album didn't ressonate with me very much. I did give it two goes through.

Eclectic, varied sound. Very groovy at times, with some jazz inspired moments.

I personally believe this album was a product of it's time, but the sonic landscape was not enduring. Not perso ally for me, but I can at least see some merit on how it ended up on this list.

Definitely not for me... but she tries new stuff, you can tell that she makes every song unique, she mixes instruments (that sometimes they have nothing to do with one another...)

Really good album

Decent

I respect Bjork’s influence and authenticity, and the albums has a great sound from smooth electronic production, but it’s just not my cup of tea.

Just a very odd album, not a fan of the slow electro beats with psychodelic elements and her voice that sounds very bored but also in pain at the same time

What can you say about Bjork that isn’t true? I find myself asking “why am I listening to this?” alongside “why don’t I listen to this more?” Is Bjork an early YouTube star pushing limits for likes or a master artist? Who knows? After listening to this album, I have no answers.

Oh so quiet

Pretty interesting and eclectic album mix. I can definitely see influences on Lorde and indie pop vocals.

Interesting

pretty interesting...

When Ayesha Erotica said “I can give you Björk but you wouldn’t understand it” she was talking to me because I don’t really get her vibe at all. I might not be her target audience but I didn’t really enjoy this record. The music was great but her vocals didn’t sit right with me. Maybe this was the vibe on the 90s but now in 2022 it’s not giving much, for me.

As most can tell by this album's name, this is the debut album from Björk. It is her best-selling album in the US with at least 1 million sales only in the states - certifying the album as platinum. The genre is art pop / electronic pop with a dash of house. Reviews of the album were/are mixed - including mine. No one had heard electronic sounds or even vocal noises like this before, so most didn't know what to think of it. I believe this album is overrated, but Björk has some great singing talent. However, a great thing this album did was introduce electronica, house, and EDM music in general to the pop/rock scene that dominated the air waves. This album laid the groundwork for other solo edm-heavy pop singers to come later in the following decades. One could say this album revolutionized modern music, and for that, I have to give it props.

Heerlijk rustig en bijzonder

Dance-y. Decent

The previous Björk album we had got 5 stars from me. so I was looking forward to this one. Turns out not all Björk albums are created equal. It still has some very interesting parts and I still like her voice. But there's also a lot of unpleasant, dissonant weirdness that just doesn't come together as well as it should.

2/19/2022 Today's Album: "Debut" by Björk - The only thing I had heard about Björk is that it is quite Avant guard music, and that is pretty much what I got. The thing I didn't expect it how dancy this album would be. Most of the tracks have some sort of club beat behind them that gives the instrumental a ton of energy and grove. For that reason I think that these beats are some of the most colorful and well made instrumentals I have heard and I really have to give this album credit for that. However I think that her vocals are really where I have problems. Her voice is the kind of voice that should be put over a soft piano ballad or an acoustic guitar, where the subtlety of the instrumental can give support to the vocal, but when the instrumentals are too energetic, like they are on most of these songs, she gets really drowned out in the mix and often feels off pitch or like there's some sort of weird effect on her voice. This is also paired with her sitting between her head and chest voice for these Alanis Morrissette type moans and I just cant jive with it most time. There are some exceptions though. The song Like Someone In Love is quite sweet as Björk actually strips back the instrumentation for a ballad and it works as well as I described earlier. One Day has a stronger instrumental but its more of a droning, spacy, and entrancing backbeat that lends to Björk's repeated phrases. Aeroplane is also a pretty solid track and makes me feel like this album is picking itself up after a sort of strange start. The mysterious groove and wood percussion pair well with Björk's delivery in a similar way to One Day. Come to Me has a fantastic beginning groove and yet again just gets kind of thrown away with the vocals. Usually I can look past it but it is almost like its frustratingly close to being amazing and Björk is just edging us with these out of tune vocal parts. I appreciate the strings in the background and how chilled out the drum beat is, but this song is just not very much to me. Violently Happy is yet another club track with weird vocals. I don't like it. The Anchor Song is something I can appreciate a little bit more, with her vocal being separated from when the instruments are playing and her poetic writing style shines with the horn chords that are being played. Play dead is an absolutely KILLER instrumental and it is wasted AGAIN. like this could be rapped on and be absolutely saved but it just sucks. Overall, I think Björk is best when she is being subtle and if she is going to make a killer groove, she should feature someone that can actually sing on it. Score: 6/10 Very strange and hit or miss (mostly miss) Highlights: Like Someone In Love, One Day, Aeroplane

Decent

Enjoyed a couple of songs but also not others.

Interesting art pop, some cool beats, low on melody, zero intensity.

Pop electrónico. Baladas cansinas. Ni fu ni fa.

It’s ok it’s Bjork. Great orchestration - and some good tracks like Human Behavior and Violently Happy. The middle sags a little but it’s ok

Some catchy tunes that are always good to go back to. Go check out the video for "All is full of love" if you haven't seen it yet (different album though)

I tried, but I couldn't 😪

I remember listening to this back when I was in my twenties and not liking it at all. After that I kept away from Björk’s work so I want expecting to like it but to my surprise this is very good! Only didn’t like that plane song which is kinda cringe but it’s a great work overall

A lot of hype over a couple alright songs

Liked the Scandinavian bits there but every track sounds like some experiments.

Teilweise genial, teilweise nervig (Stimme), teilweise billiger Dancekack

Pretty good! Never knew what to expect from Björk but this was enjoyable!

it's Bjork. you can't not like it

17th December 2021 Listened in the morning and finished off on a walk to safeway in vancouver before we went to lizzie and Andy's wedding. Etherial and magical, bjork is a real one of a kind.

Not really my scene but she has a beautiful voice

Quite good but not my style. I appreciate it for what it is but I'm probably not coming back to it much.

Niezbyt podoba mi się jej głos (szczególnie chrypka i załamania głosu). Bardzo oryginalne i nietypowe, ale totalnie nie w moim typie.

First song was a strong start, but after that is unfortunately missed the mark for me. Extremely has that 90s sound which didn't age well. Lots of songs to me were filler and not very interesting. Obviously Bjork really comes into her own with later albums, but it's a fine debut but nothing like the later works.

Average album

Enjoyed this when released, but realise now that I was just skipping through to the singles. Overall musically more accessible than her other material, but still only good for the singles.3 out of 5

Love some of her stuff but not all.

still not for me, it´s special though

-I can tell she has influenced the music I listen to today -Liked the layering of sounds in her songs -Liked the first 3 songs on the album

I lost interest halfway through.

I have heard several tracks from Björk, but I'm not sure if I've ever listened to a full album. I liked this album. I have listened to the opening track "Human Behaviour" several times, and it is my favorite track from the album. There are some tracks that get a little distracting (the harp on "Like Someone in Love", and other tracks that feel lik they are a little dated (e.g. "One Day"), but I wouldn't say that I disliked anything from this album. This album has room to grow on me, but with this first listen I don't think it was enough to round up to a full 4 stars.

it was alright, some of it was really fun to like lowkey dnace to but overall kinda strange

I don’t think anyone can deny the talent of Björk. She is truly a great singer and obviously has fans and detractors. When this album was released, she basically poo-pooed the concept of the standard guitar/bass/drums rock band as being past it’s prime. I would argue that any instrumentation can get in a rut, but people have to be willing to experiment before one can say “oh it’s all been done before.” So ultimately, what do we have here? It’s pretty much a dance album with one or two other songs thrown in. Kinda reminds me of what Radiohead was shooting for at one point, but more joyous. I’m just not that big of a fan of techno/dance music, so I don’t think I will come back to this. I appreciate it for what it is, and the significance of this album, but… just not for me.

Listened to it twice. Some stuff cool, some stuff annoying. Respect for her being so different from anything else. Pretty good vocals and lyrics (not afraid to be raw and just out there). Could probably listen to it in the background all day without noticing it much, music kind of melodic. But I'm not going to ask anyone to put it on for me.

I bought this when it came out based on liking the song Human Behaviour. My original reaction was that I didn't like the rest and even returned it (my local CD store allowed you to return an opened CD if you simply didn't like it. Needless to say, they had to watch out for people who abused this policy). My reaction re-listening to it now many years later is that I appreciate it a bit more, but still wouldn't buy it (if that were still a thing). I think the problem is that too many songs follow the same formula - a good beat that repeats over and over accompanied by Bjork's unusual singing. That's all well and good, but gets a little old. I give it a solid 3.

Some good songs, some didn't do it for me - like Big Time Sensuality. The song from the Leon movie soundtrack "Venus as a boy" is class.

Debut is a quality album which does not quite reach the artistic and creative heights of Björk’s later work but shows the direction of travel. Björk is one of the greatest artists working in music and possesses an incredibles singing voice - the vocal range, control and passion is unmatched and she reminds me of great jazz singers of the past - and whilst not associated with jazz she can still sell a jazz standard like ‘Like Someone in Love’. Her voice elevated the electronic pop/ house genre on Debut to something more than music danced to in clubs.

Sounds like a MTV version of Kate Bush. I quite enjoyed.

It’s good, but it’s not one of her best. Some strange moments.

It was a fine album, didn’t really remember much from it

Tunes excellent, voice grates a bit but enjoyable enough

offbeat and interesting as bjork always is. Surprised by the toned down parts - almost fiona apple-ey. The show tuney parts though. Some annie lenox overtones. A little throwback to 60s/70s bond film music. Solid

Fun listen, would definitely purchase the LP at the right price.

It’s definitely an interesting listen. Definitely not casual listening, but it’s very unique. Overall I think the music was good, but the weird noises detracted from it.

Some good songs, nice instrumentals but a bit too niche for me

Haven't listened to them before but was pleasantly surprised; her voice isn't my favorite, but she's very talented...wouldn't mind digging into her work more

What a journey! Some very exciting moments in here and I could listen to her voice any day of the week. She’s a master of playfulness and does things on this record that I wouldn’t have dreamed of. I’m tempted to give it a 4 because it’s such a breath of fresh air but it’s not my particular brand of vodka so I won’t. Really wonderful though.

Cover albuma je predivan, prvi album Bjorkice je dobar, nije kao njeni ostali albumi: Homogenic ili Vespertine, ali je tu.

Not my kind of music. But also I'm not in the mood for this kind of music at the moment.

Fun beats but not a fan of her voice

Ok, this was better than I expected. Maybe Tom Waits hurt so much that it lowered the bar.

What is undoubtedly one of Bjork's more approachable efforts, this album showed a brief glimpse into the uniqueness of her efforts to come.

Surprisingly pleasant

Decent listen

Nice album. It's playful and fun art-pop. And it just feels good overall, even if it may not be as sophisticated as her later work.

Helemaal niet wat ik verwacht had. Leuke tonen, een fascinerende stem.

This doesn't feel like an album as much as a collection. She covers a lot of ground here. Still, for the most part, I liked it.

really good fun. only heard the singles at the time. Couple of duds but 7/10.

First (partial) listen was meh, but 2nd listen was much better and I digged it :)

5. Started out pretty good, but not much to recomend it after that

Interesting

Vocals are distinct with sometimes jarring rhythms. Can tell the dance vibe and given the period, the percussion could use a reboot but has a dance hall sound to some of the tracks. I could listen to a few tracks more for sure. I can see why there is large following.

Bjork’s debut solo album was definitely ahead of its time. Some of the songs have rhythms more akin to a club, then you’re sent to a new age Enya, then back to a psychedelic rock a la Jefferson Starship’s White Rabbit. For a bunch of songs that don’t seem like they’d fit together, they do.

c'est doux

Nice album. First album I listened to by Björk. Much less electronic than her newest stuff. Feels more woodsy. Björk has a voice that is hard to get used to because it can sound very strainy or like her English is not natural. Almost alien like but once u understand that it’s fire

Not my style.

I unfortunately respect it more than i enjoy it. It has some very creative and experimental swings amidst a few wonderful songs.

mooooi

Bjork is cool, I feel like I didn't really pay attention to this though

A bit too dissonant for my taste, but when that dissonance converged, the payoff was fantastic.

good quriky mood. impossible not to listen to. try on a walk

Music was good, voice more like upset cat

Super funky. Had some really cool bright spots, but more of the album was 'weird' then good listening.

Great beats, interested to hear other things produced by her. But the singing and lyrics aren't for me.

Very good.

Classic Bjork. Unusual but a great listen.

bit weird not a fan

Visionært, dancepop, 90’er, vild vokal, avantgarde

Björk on vaikeeta musaa ja aika usein se ärsyttää outoudellaan, mut tää levy miellytti kokonaisuudessaan

A 3 is generous

I feel like calling this "unique" is dismissing it a little, but that's the word that comes to mind. Bjork has a very powerful, versatile voice, and the production in spots is still fresh. Very trip-hop. Kind of loses mean in the later half of the album. Favorite tracks: "Crying", "There's More to Life Than This"

I liked the song Venus is a Boy

Meh. Better than I thought it would be though.

I don’t know if I really get this album. I really wanted to like it, though. Mid 2

Paia e sem sal, me deu sono zzz

A bit too zwonky for me. :( (Review copied from my other group.)

Teleurstellend

Not my thing, but I can definitely see why people enjoy.

It’s fine, it’s really just not my thing for the most part

Not my type of music

Couldn't really take to this. Don't like her voice or the style.

First or last, not for me

Hmm, I can kinda see why people might like this? But I wasn't vibing and it seems a little overrated. I have heard of Bjork's name. and if nothing else, this journey has gotten me to know more pop culture references.

I have always liked the idea of Bjork… but never dived into her discography. And maybe that’s for the better. Don’t get me wrong, I like avant-garde pop as much as the next guy… but found myself wanting to skip early and often. 2.1

no Björkki on Björkki eikä muuksi muutu. En tykkää mutta moni tykkää, on tämä hyvin tuotettu levy.

I love her voice- it’s so weird. I wasn’t considerably impressed with the album though. I don’t see myself ever wanting to listen to this again.

I listened to it a few times and unfortunately I feel like I was missing something. It never really clicked for me.

Didn’t listen to the whole thing. Not bad feels very experimental

i think Bjork is a talented musician, i understand why she has a devoted fanbase and has such acclaim, but this just isn't for me

Not my cup of tea 😩

Human Behavior is cool but pass on the rest

This is not for me. Felt like 90s experimental 90s jazz, but not in a good way

yeah right on totally

var musik...

Maybe she’s bjork with it

Сначала средне потом понял что фигня

Good album and eccentric. I don't know why Bjork gets such a bad wrap.

Snodig, følte ankje heilt

impressive gall to release this album of general midi demo tracks

Try as I might, and believe me I have tried, I just can’t get into Bjork.

It's such a shame they put in such uninspired stock music. It completely compromises her special voice. The way she sings three different songs that only exist in her head while the original background music is playing a totally different melody and rhythm is really interesting.

Always feel like I should like Björk's music more than I do.

It's better than Saltine or whatever. Almost a 3 but her voice

When I was a kid, oh so quiet was very popular in my country. I hated the song immensely and for a very long time swerved bjork as much as I could. Then one time she was a co headliner for a festival I was at and I did a complete 180 and got into some of her music. I hadn’t heard this album though, tbh was a bit underwhelmed. And so continues my tumultuous relationship with Bjork’s music

Weird vibe, a lot of noises, disturbing sounds. Some music are okay but not my type

Very unique, the albums songs sounded in disarray with no straight direction. Enjoyed the song violently happy and here and there songs but not collectively

Bit of a mixed bag , not sure I'd listen again . The good bits are very good but the rest is a bit pretentious .

no llegueee

Ddddefinitely not for me. Maybe if she sang more in tune?

I've listened to Bjork's newer stuff and I was curious to hear her older stuff. I was disappointed by the apparent lack of musical evolution. I am definitely not a fan

I'll give it some points for some neat experimenation and instrumentals, but the songs just feel too all over the place, and her voice is just too out there for me personally to actually enjoy it. 2/5

Very monotonous, not my jam

Reminds me of a little kid trying to sing.

Not into Bjork and this reminds me why. Not my thing at all.

Not really that keen

This is a super nostalgic album from my college years. My roommate was a Sugarcubes fanatic- I loved their song ‘birthday’— but when Bjork went solo, I immediately felt she was too cool for me. Some blend of avant-garde and techno that I didn’t like. The latter would ultimately divide me from most of my crew at the time. Raves/techno were never for me.

Didn’t like Bjork then. Don’t like her now.

I remember how horrible I found Björk in my younger days. She was that crazy lady on MTV and other stations who seemed to be unnecessarily complicated with her music. Now, many years later, I can appreciate her music a lot more, but I can't get over what I disliked about her back in the days. That includes her voice and performances.

Not liking Björk is my generation’s version of men not liking Yoko Ono…so it gives me great pain to admit I don’t really enjoy her vocals. I’m so sorry Björk your outfits are always fire though

was never a big fan of this one when it came out. still not.

this genre of music really isn't for me, the music nor the lyrics drew me in. could not listen fully. vocals were pretty and the instrument choices were interesting though.

didnt love it. feels to young

A bit too zwonky for me : (

Some interesting music that could have greatly benefitted from a better singer. A lot of it sounds really outdated though. Vocals are super annoying of course, and what I can understand of the lyrics is incredibly cringe. Edit: I really wanted to give a 1-star review, but I just couldn't: It's remarkable how many of the songs I remembered even 30 years later without ever having had any interest in Bjork. The cultural impact (puke-emoji / pile-of-shit-emoji) can't be denied.

definitivamente no es tan de mi gusto, pero me hizo seguir el ritmo con la patita en todos los temas (y desinhibirme de mi heterosexualidad también). exótica la comadre y eso siempre se agradece.

Bjork's music is funky and weird. Not my fave

I don’t think Bjork should have so many albums on this list.

The Good: It’s a debut… The Bad: It’s Bjork… The Ugly: Too many Bjork albums on this list… Yeah, no. I am certain that there are people who would die for Bjork. I am certain that there are artists who wish they would be as creative as Bjork is… Yet… she annoys me… Sorry, 2*

Really not for me

Buxbaum would play "Human Behavior" and "Big Time Sensuality" at A Cappella all the time. Her vocals are actually incredible. I'm kind of vibing with the trip pop parts, unsure about the jazz. I have finished one listen through and will probably do another. Now that I've already eaten and my appetite is satiated, I really want to digest it.

Don't like Bjork's voice here. Kind of boring, apart from Come to Me. A darling of the critics, very hyped, but I'm just basing it off what I heard and I'm rather disappointed

I don't get her music.

There was some interesting things happening on this album but not really enough to make me want to listen to it again.

Points for being unique, but this doesn't do it for me. I recognize that there's talent and creativity on display here, but I was glad when it was over. 2.3

Her voice is on key and violently off key at the same time…

Not my style!

Too out there. Dreamy at times, funky loud at times, what is it trying to be? Big Time Sensuality was the fave for its dance vibe.

3/16/26 - Listened at computer. Bjork is ugh. I've never understood her, literally and figuratively. That said, this is fine background music but there is no interest in every playing this again. Top Song - Venus As a Boy

Moins nul que son autre album de la liste, mais quand même nul.

Great vocals on this but that's all. 5.8/10

Inte riktigt min grej.

Talent fornægter sig ikke - men jeg synes, det er lidt kedeligt. 2.5

Don't like the songs, don't like her voice and the 90's spaced-out vibe doesn't speak to me at all

Not really my cup of tea.

Vibey, twang of psychadelic. It’s cool and very 90s but I’m not wild about it

pop raro? hay electronica detrás, medio funk, bastante meh, muy particular, 2/5

I know it's an important and unique album but I just don't get Bjork. I liked her with the Sugarcubes though

Never heard the entire album before and only remember the singles that came from it. Track one is good, mostly because I already knew it from when this came out. Other than that it's weird enough to be interesting and something very different at the time it came out. I've heard that later Björk albums are better so hopefully we'll get one of those to review as well.

Most of this is decent electroinca/ house music largely ruined by the vocals. And then she goes to the loo in the middle of a song.

Human behavior is good. Raspy cool voice… but the rest not my jam

Unusual, as expected from the Ice Pixie. Interesting voice, but a lot of quite discordant stuff.

I feel pretty split on bjork, when I heard the homogenic album as part of the AM top 100 I really couldn’t decide if I actually liked it or not. I do really like her feature on Lux so I’m willing to give her another go (I imagine I’ll have to as there are presumably several of her albums on here) but I don’t think I like this as much as homogenic 2

Difficult to rate bjorks work. It is undoubtedly full of invention and verve. However the voice is on the wrong side of silly. So for all the invention there is a lot of irritation. In the sugarcubes the voice was smothered here it is at the forefront.

She's got an amazing voice, but I didn't really vibe with this album.

Pre listening: I'm not sure about this album for a lot of reasons. Not sure if I like most music from the 90s, electronica isn't really my style, and I've never heard of this artist or any of these songs. Also, the album art with the artist about to cry doesn't bode well for the vibe of this album to me. But maybe I'll be surprised! Based on the album description it sounds like the album was better received internationally than it was in the US, so I'm not thinking I'll like it from that perspective. After listening: I actually really enjoyed the music on this album, but the singing ruined it all. The tracks all felt very jazz inspired, there was interesting instrumentation, and rhythmically the album was very interesting. But I don't think I'll listen again or go back to it because the vocals/singing was so annoying.

i liked human behaviour and crying, and like someone. in love. it was a interesting listen

I don’t get it… putting art out into the world is generally always a good thing, but I don’t think this one was made for me

Nope. 1.6

Never got into Björk, so can’t say how this compares to her other works. One thing I can say is that this album wasn’t all that fun. I don’t understand what people like about her. This music is unique, sure, but other than that, I struggle to come up with any compliments. It’s just so slow and uneventful, and the atmosphere is not that great either—not to the extent of being unbearably boring but still not good. I didn’t find anything memorable in this album, but it wasn’t, like, repulsive or anything. 5/10

I’m torn. There’s bits of this I liked. Other bits that were REALLY weird and out there. I respect what she did. Would I listen to it again, willingly or otherwise? Probably not

Well I liked Play Dead...

Kinda dancy, not my fave but I can see how some people like it.

Didn't like it!!

Idk about her debut, I’m sure I’d like her later stuff but this album just was not it for me. I think there’s a reason her other albums are much more well known and talked about.

Still no acquired the taste!

Em minha opinião este álbum é bastante confuso, há uma grande mudança de estilo musicais dentro de apenas uma música. Não gostei muito deste disco.

I have always bristled at Björk's singing style and this was no different. Some of the beats were pretty interesting if I could kind of ignore her singing.

Aight, homogenic her best

I like bjorks voice but this was not great

An album of its time, which is not now.

Eh not a fan of Bjork

Couldn’t finish it but it’s fine

Alright x

Not my style, too screamy

Hunan Behaviour - 5/10 Crying - 4/10 Venus As A Boy - 4/10 There's More To Life Than This - Live At The Milk Bar Toilets - 3/10 Like Someone In Love - 4/10 Bif Time Sensuality - 5/10 One Day - 4/10 Aeroplane - 4/10 Come To Me - 3/10 Violently Happy - 3/10 The Anchor Song - 4/10 I don't really get nor like her style but probably could if I listened to her other albums. Couldn't finish any song, except the first. Too much for me.

Some good moments, but didn’t work for me. I can appreciate its inventiveness though, and Bjork has a genuinely unique voice and style

I don’t really get the appeal of this album tbh, just a lot of sounds put together

I remember this album coming out, so nice beats but a bit odd. I know there are some people who absolutely love Bjork…I don’t see it

I can understand how it could be influential--but, not my thing. May be one of those albums you have to listen to twice to get, but I don't want to listen to it again. I can't objectively rate this album. There were some good instrumentals.

felt so whimsical listening to this one but i fear its not for me unfortunately

Not really my thing, too arty-weird.

I can tell it's good but to me just sounds like some ass indi song that has good production 2/5

I’m vibing with the beats a bit but overall, it sounds like a really bad psychedelic musical

Not my type of music

Best gek en leuk

It's... Weird. It feels anti melodic, and I can't really get used to Björk's voice. It's not awful but I don't think I can choose out any track that I really enjoyed. I always heard that Björk was a bit out there but, dang man, I didn't realize it was like that.

I can see how this would be a big hit on the dance floor. For me, however, Bjork is just all shouty and irritating. This is repetitive and often indecipherable. Favorite: The Anchor Song

4/10 - a bit disappointed, I expected more but this may just have been her earlier album

I don't think I was in a run-down enough former Soviet discotheque or zooted on enough cocaine to enjoy any of this.

OK I am not a Bjork fan, it’s a knee jerk reaction I admit and this is first time listening properly to anything of hers. Here goes….really didn’t care for it. It’s not her voice, that is interesting, but personally it felt a bit samey and some of it was ethereal and floaty and other songs were dance orientated. Couldn’t get a grip on it.

i don’t think i like bjork guys It gets a 2 because I can commend the avant-garde-ness of it all I guess, and because I skipped through most of it. It’d be like reading the cliff notes for a book and then writing a book review. But yeah, I didn’t really care for the sound of it at all.

J'aurais voulu aimer plus que ce que je n'ai aimé, malheureusement la magie n'a pas opéré, un peu trop bizarre pour moi et pas dans le bon sens du terme 2/5

Bjork's usual unsettling pop

Not a big gan

She's got an amazing voice and I love her character but Bjork's music has never really pulled me in and this album is no exception. it's amazing that she was so incredibly popular off the back of this when this music is really out there. The lyrics are amazing though with clear themes and ideas (the lack of clear themes is probably what i find so difficult wiht the music itself). I was particularly taken by the words of human behaviour, there is more to life than this, and violently happy.

Well. First impression was that this is what it would sound like if Sade and Gotye had a baby. But that kind of fizzled and I wasn’t really impressed. Maybe just not a fan of this kind of music.

She has a beautiful voice but not my style of music.

I get her strange place on the music spectrum - odd girl from Iceland with unique voice - but doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.

I appreciate Bjork, but overall, just isn't for me.

Really not my thing, like music from a movie about a lounge singer. But her moxie shines through. Great album cover.

Just couldn't get into it...

who listens to this?

I can respect the uniqueness

i like Björk a lot but this one whiffs for me. she would get a lot more refined in later albums, and as far as dance music goes, this is house music without any of what makes it so great to me deserves to be one of the 1001? maybe. if you really wanted to add like 5 Björk albums go for it. but you need to have Post and Homogenic first before we can talk about bringing this one on

I’ve never liked Bjork. This album is no different. I get that she’s an artist and incredibly unique. It’s just not a uniqueness I want to listen to.

Entirely forgettable. Not terrible. But nothing that really stands out. Going to subtract a star cause this dbag I used to work with was a huge Bjork fan.

2 out of 5 Ahh, Bjork. The 90s were Bjork. A few songs were ok, but the rest were really way out there.

It's bad, and I dont like it. But I was prepared for it to be BAD and to HATE it. I don't appreciate or need music like this around, at all. But I think it's fine that it exists. It shouldn't be anywhere near this list though. 2/5

I can't warm to Björk at all. I think it's the voice.

I was looking forward to this :( 2.5

Big Time Sensuality is growing on me but the rest of it is just a bit too freaky too Scandi for me. I respect Bjork as an entity but this album was a bit much. Specific rating - 1.8 Fav song - big time sensuality Least fav- The Anchor Song

Liked the first couple songs, then it got a bit too weird for me. Great voice, just not for me. Favourite song: Human Behaviour Least: Violently Happy

"Big Time Sensuality" was the only song that ever got much airplay, and of course I loved it at the time. Bjork always gave of a super-odd vibe which always kind of turned me off exploring her music.

Actually underwhelmed at the start of this. ‘Birthday’ by the Sugarcubes is one of the greatest songs ever but I guess part of that is the indie creation & production, but this is all a bit polished. ‘Venus As A Boy’ stands out as it always did, the sound of Spring, stunning. I thought coming back to this old favourite I’d like it more than I do. It feels like they’ve taken the wild Icelandic Bjork & compressed her into a UK format.

Some parts were interesting but overall ehhhh

Good voice, but not for me

Still not my jams.

I wish she would've stayed in her igloo village. 1.5/5

I think I'm getting a little burnt out from this list. This is album suggestion #203, and I feel like I could barely retain any of it. Maybe it was that boring of an album, but I don't think so. At least, not just that. Parts of it were cool. There were some jazzy moments, though for the most part it felt more electronic and house. While it was an interesting blend, I didn't connect with it much mentally. It felt more like it plodded along rather than carried me through like I'd expect from a good album. Sorry if this one's more me than the album, but I don't see much here that I like. Giving it some points for the style and composition. Not much else really worked for me. Overall: 2.2/5

i dont get it

Your reaction here is going to depend on how tolerable you find her chalk on a blackboard singing style.

Dommage ! =>2/5

Unsure whether I liked it or hated it.

I secretly had a crush on Björk long ago. Her art is okay and she looks normal, but from what I’ve seen during closed interviews and when she’s just being herself, describing things in detail and expressing herself in a natural tone, she’s just so… hmm. Love her perspectives and creativity. Anyway, I do own this record, but it doesn’t get played much. You should check out that movie ‘The Juniper Tree’ though. She was really good in that! [ Björk, if you can see this message- I’m 20 years younger than you, a wildlife biologist, live in California (willing to move), and I’m seriously all yours honey, find me. ;) ]

Not as bad as I was anticipating but it's got 90s weirdness all over it

Not doing much for me. Björk is very talented though.

This album certainly takes you on a journey. Although, that journey is partially through some dog shit and the like. It's not all bad though, just some of it.

Not quite my style, I like a few tracks like Venus as a boy. I think it’s the industrial and more sparse sound that I bump against

Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. I don't enjoy her singing. Even if she's got a three octave range and likes to experiment, I'm not sure that it follows that she should record and disseminate it all. Another performer that seems to be talented, but I don't dig what they're planting. If you will. 2.5 and I really wish no rounding was necessary.

I wanted to like it but I just couldn't get past the lack of melody. Bjork is definitely a talented and creative artist though. Tracks to track: Human Behavior

Never listened to Björk before but as an introduction I am not sure I get it.

Kinda bland pop. Not a fan of this one. 2/5

I only like one song. I remember being disappointed by the whole album in high school

I found Bjork very interesting but the record is definitely a bit dated and I don't think the 90s sounds have aged all that well.

Interesting voice and style but a little too far out

Very interesting. So many varying sounds and styles. I don't really like her voice. There were a couple of songs on the al um that perked my ears up but I didn't really like it much.

As with Otis last week, I liked her best when she wasn’t pushing so hard, as on “Like Someone In Love” I don’t know if I’ll articulate this well, but her voice doesn’t match the music. Is she off the beat on purpose maybe? I’m not sure. I liked this album a lot less than I thought I would. It’s cheezy. EDIT: had to come back and give accolades to “Play Dead” the last track. Probably my favorite!

This is pretty much how I remember Bjork. It was certainly different for the time, and had that one hit that pushed it into main stream

I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would, but I definitely don’t like it. Take the manic vocals out and you could at least have some nice instrumentals that would make you feel cool while you’re checking in to a boutique hotel in Brooklyn. I thought “Oh, poor Björk. It sounds like Björk is in pain. Someone should check on Björk” too many times for this to be a great listen. I get that she’s cool and edgy and experimental and everything, but it’s not my thing.

Quite dull - reminded me of the four emo days I had when I was 14.

Yeah, an odd one. A bit too artistic to enjoy as background listening, but not really justifying dedicated listening. Falls a bit flat.

lil wack

I honestly can't get behind this one. Its good but I wouldn't come back to this, nothing in really jumps out to me.

Bjork, I really wanted to like you, I had heard a lot about you, had even played a couple of your songs before, but to no avail. I just couldn't really get into it. Like I get it, youre different, experimental and have a good voice, but I just dont think its for me. Theres something about the electronic stuff that is often a bit intense, paired with the untraditional vocals, just doesn't musically give me anything to Bob my head to or make me feel anything. I guess I can see why people like this, but I just dont think im a part of that squadron.

J’arrive pas trop à savoir ce que j’en ai pensé

it is meh
