Reviews (page 7 of 7)

p612. 1989. 1.5 stars. Badly dated, repetitive, late 80s rap. On the plus side it's not foul mouthed and has some decent samples, which just make you want to listen to the original track.

All of these songs sounded the same, and no matter how many times she tries to tell me she is a “queen” I'm not convinced she has any royal blood.

No thanks

That has not aged well at all. Mama Gave Birth was just out and out annoying, dreadful. Essentially the same approach to every song, I had had enough of her voice by track 4. Nothing to see here deadbeats, move on.

It’s not exactly fair to have to listen to this one on a weekend! I’ve never listened to Queen Latifah before, and to be honest, I knew going in that All Hail the Queen probably wouldn’t be my thing. That said, it was slightly better than I expected. It’s very much a product of its time — classic late ’80s hip hop with that dated sound — but there’s still some charm to it. I wouldn’t listen to it again, though. Favourite track: Dance for Me was okay. Least favourite track: Pretty much everything else. Album artwork: Not one I’d be hanging on the wall at home.

OMG, it's Hip-House! I'd completely forgotten about that late '80s genre that died out just a few years later. It was an odd and funny blend, but unbearable to listen to these days. And then the use of samples is so entirely late '80s/early '90s hip hop I forgot about, too. I don't know why it is on this list though, I mean, I prefer Neneh Cherry when it's been selected to introduce one of the first female rappers among the then dominated male hip hop world. Even a collaboration with De La Soul doesn't save this album, overall it's just dull and hopelessly dated which didn't stand the test of time. The only song worth noting is "The Evil That Men Do" because of its lyrics and KRS-One's involvement, so 1 star for that. 1/5

Didn't feel this was anything special.

A sound of its time indeed. Not entirely sure if 80s rap is for me. This has a real juvenile quality (which, contrary to my poor review, I do not mean in a degrading sense) that I wasn't expecting. Quite repetitive and lacking substance. After finding out Latifah was only 19 years old at the time, I do admire the brazen energy in the self-asserting lyricism, but it wasn’t anything memorable.

not my taste

Not for me

Hip Hop, 43eme album. =>1/5

Best Track - "Ladies First"

I don't really care for 80s rap flows, and I feel like the 80s were the peak of bloated albums that are twice as long as they should be, and that both of those are exemplified in this album.

I get why it’s here, but I didn’t like it, very repetitive

Important messages but not my vibe

Another album of babbling full of 80's disco and hip hop beats. Not for me.

Rating: 0.1 Nah.

Not a rap fan

aggghhh i did not like that. i feel bad it’s just the raps aren’t good and the beats aren’t good and it’s too long. every song she’s just talking about how she’s queen latifah, a black female emcee who’s produced by king ramsey. 1/5

Repetitive and did not not enjoy

It bored me, it sounds dated, I didn't even finish it

I’m impressed with the talent Queen Latifah clearly possesses, though I’m no fan of rap even when she’s singing it

pretty trash i don’t like women rapping.

Not for me

There is absolutely nothing notable about this music.

Yaas queenie

I can see how this could be inspiring to some, and worth including on the list, but sonically I don’t think it’s great. There’s better stuff from the era.

Don't like rap. Only listened a little because it was Queen Latifah.

Next, please. 1 star or F.

Incredibly disappointing. Paper-thin beats, basic lyrics which all just try to flex. Really expected more from Latifah. 1/5

HipHop/Rap ist für mich keine Musik. Nie!

Dogshit.

Like her as an actress. Not her music. Rap crap.

Never cared for her.

In case you ever forgotten who wrote this pile of garbage, she'll tell you about a million times. I probably could have held on to the end of the album as it wasn't actively infuriating, but decided I wasn't make myself suffer any longer. 1.5 *, rounded down as I didn't make it through.

Det är ju fan att man ska behöva bli förbannad på en fredag. En riktig skitskiva.

Vocals on the hook in Come Into My House sound flat, as do a lot of the vocals on this album. Dance For Me was decent enough. But most of this was incredibly boring. That stupid helium voice on track 2 was enough for me to give this 1 star. Shit.

Putting this album on the same list as all these legendary artists is like letting a make a wish kid shoot a free throw at halftime of an nba game

gelato alla nocciola

Oh, late 80s rap is not my thing I guess. This type of beat and flow just feels a bit silly to me. 1/5

Very 90s, not my stuff.

Ladies First Princess of the Posse

Yuck. Bad and at times cringe. DNF

I am not a fan of this genre and all this album did was to reinforce that dislike. Give me props, I listened to to the whole recording, excruciating as that was. Ugh!

Oh surprise surprise ANOTHER hip hop rap album to endure. How many more ??

NO ME GUSTA

If I wanted to listen to the Beastie Boys, I'd just listen to the Beastie Boys. Just saying....

Very much of its time and I wish it had stayed there. It was very dull and instantly forgettable.

Terribly boring.

Might be groundbreaking.... still sucks. 1 stars

Please no.

Decades ago, it was definitely nice to hear one or two songs to identify with an oppressed group.

Weak, cheesy, shit lyrics on this album. Beats are mid. I did not like this at all and don’t think it belongs on this list

Not my thing

incredible queensmanship

Anstrengender Golden Age HipHop.

noooot my taste

First listen Saved 0/12

Bufff! No more rap, please!

I keep on expect Will Smith to break in and start with the themes from Fresh Prince. That's not a complement. And this isn't as good as that. It's almost - almost - saved by Evil that men do, which is the only tune I'd ever want to listen to again from this. But ultimately it's so dated and just a bit too crap. So it's one star. This is more hippity-hoppity than hip-hop.

Two dimensional, musdically and creatively poor. Very dull.

Ah now

Not for me.

not my kind of music

Angry and boring

All songs sound the same..not good

Mon dieu, c'est juste une pâle copie de bien meilleur rapport. C'est plus que nulle tant qu'à moi. 1

a little too old school for my taste. Classic hip hop origins

I do not like rap. It has one good track on it.

Not my thing.

I hate hip hop. This album is just an automated drum machine overlaid with self-aggrandizing angry rants.

This feels so of its time, and not in a good way. I can see its influence, but listening on its own terms I didn't enjoy this at all. It's not even that fun in a throwback way. It's also very possible that her rap voice is too close to her acting voice, and I've seen too many Queen Latifah movies / shows to take this seriously.

Pointless.

At least she makes me appreciate MC Lyte, Rah Digga, Apani B, Lady of Rage, Bahamadia etc etc

It's just not for me.

Yeah. Fuck no.

All respect to Queen Latifah, this album did not age well.

Not looking forward to this. Even those who grew up with it can't give it 5 stars. I'm guessing I'll start pressing skip after the first "song." It was a boring and predictable as I expected.

Jak stracic wiare w codzienny albumowy seans, nic prostszego wystarczy trafic na all hail the queen i czlowiek zmieciony z planszy

I don't "get" Hip Hop/Rap etc. It's almost certainly a culture thing. I've tried to listen to every album of these genres that have appeared on my list, and while I've rarely rnjoyed them, I can see why they are included. I have no idea what makes "All Hail the Queen" in any way special - to me it seemed nothing by samples and trite, meaningless lyrics. I made it through 5 tracks before deciding "Life is too short".

So bad.

Annoying 90s hip hop. 1/5

Wow. Worst rap I can remember hearing in a long time.

Hated this one.

Confirmed: I still can't stand hip-hop. But I'll still add I fail to see why this particular album merits inclusion here (regardless of my lack of appreciation for the genre).

Trash flows decent beats

Not good

I got about 3 seconds in and noped outta there.

This is just one of the albums that didn't age well.1989 was top loaded with crap. Millie Vanilla, New Kids on the Block, Bobby Brown and Obviously Queen Latifah. There is not a good song on this album!

WTF is this shit?
