Gick tillbaka och kollade på min recension av det förra R.E.M.-albumet jag hade här, och insåg att jag inte minns något alls av det. Det är kanske rätt talande för vilket otroligt tråkigt band detta är. De flesta låtar är jangle-poppiga, gladlynta, och helt substanslösa. Som att bandet hittat en ok melodi, ett ok riff, sedan nöjt sig med det och kör det genom hela låten, som bara blir platt. Det finns en tonartshöjning i slutet av 'Stand' men den är bara parodisk. Papparock på det dåliga sättet. Några låtar höjer sig lite över mängden - 'You Are The Everything', 'The Wrong Child', 'I Remember California'. Bästa låt: I Remember California.

Achje. Kein Totalausfall, aber langweilig wie immer. Die Musik von REM ist schlecht gealtert und ich frage mich, was wir damals alle daran gefunden haben.

Orange crush and I remember California are the only ones that stuck out to me. Other than that it all was pretty brutal to get through….kinda torn between a 2 and a three. Gonna flip a coin rq.

You Are The Everything pissed me off

First three songs were horrible this shit is why I don’t like music. Stand was slightly okay a bit better than the other ones but still lad absolutely terrible. Like terrible slow Led Zeppelin Tangerine wannabe and just couldn’t figure out how to make anything good.

Omdöme 8 låtar in i albumet: World leader pretend och Orange crush var ju lite bättre än den usla inledningen. Men bra? Nej, här handlar det mest om dålig konkurrens. Håll ut! Bara tre låtar kvar. Omdöme efter alla 11 låtar Inte blev det mycket bättre. Inledningen är fruktansvärd. Resten trist. Nu lyssnar vi på något roligare. Kanske lite gladjazz?

I don't really know how to explain it but I just don't really like listening to R.E.M... I just find it kinda boring? Like, when a song ends, I just forget I heard it. I think it's cause I feel like the songs just don't "go anywhere". Hard to get through this one.

Ik heb nu wel genoeg matige rockbands geluisterd. Geen leuk album, geen zin om het vaker te gaan luisteren. Ik kan er helemaal niks mee. Geen een nummer vond ik wel aardig.

Ik had hier wel wat van verwacht. Ik ken natuurlijk de hits die wel aardig zijn maar ik had nooit een heel album geluisterd. Man wat viel dat tegen. Heb het ook niet direct helmaal afgeluisterd omdat ik het erg irritant vond. Het is een algemeen gerespecteerd album en blijkbaar één van de favorieten van Curt Cobain. Heb het daarna nog vijf keer geprobeerd om er achter te komen wat ik nu dan mis. Het is twee keer gelukt om het album helemaal te luisteren. De andere pogingen standen in irritatie. Het klinkt een beetje als Phill Collis in een the smiths coverband. Er is veel gezeik en gezanik en dan alles om een monotoon melodie. Ik haat niet alle nummers van REM maar dit album niet voor mij.

This album made me hate R.E.M. on a level that I did not think was possible. I cannot see myself listening to any of their songs for a very long time because his voice is so fucking annoying and I did not realize that until listening to this album. I only appreciated two songs and the better one was I rememberCalifornia

Hittade den här på CD i Ross Gellers bokhylla. Visst hade R.E.M. några bangers på 90-talet ändå?? Gick och väntade på att nån av dom skulle komma och baila ut dom här men näää. Fruktansvärt från start till mål verkligen. Hatar både rösten och texterna, usch.

I'm choosing to believe the reason that we've already had 3 R.E.M. albums is not that the generator hates me, but wants my suffering to be early in this process. If only we were getting through Morrissey as quickly. "Stand" is one of my least favorite songs of all time, I cannot listen to it at all. Nothing will change my mind about this one.

Frankly, the album's highly boring, monotonous, and I have no idea why it is on the 1001 list. What is ut in the music or the vocals that, accoeding to the list authors, makes it one of the best in the history of music? It is indeed not. I can hardly remember a song immediately after listening to this. I believe this is the first album among the 32 that I have listened up until now which does not have a single song I could add to my playlists. Such entries honestly make me dissappointed about choosing to listen to the list. Well, we will see how that goes further.

This was bad! But I do like Orange Crush. There was a lyric in the very lame song You Are Everything that is, “you’re drifting off to sleep with your teeth in your mouth,” which made me think of my Dad’s dentures and how he’s drifting off to sleep with his teeth on the bathroom counter

R.E.M are Beige: The Band and this is aggressively bland. This feels like what happens when you let one of those guitar wankers who plays Wonderwall and Stairway on loop actually make their own music. It's like we took the lyrics of the 70s, but none of the musical interest that made it properly hit. The biggest song on this album is also the best one, but I was even ready for Orange Crush to end half-way through. It's only 4 minutes long!

I might've enjoyed this album more if I was at any other stage of my life. Instead I just felt kinda annoyed at the lack of energy and how down-in-the-dumps it was. I actually think there are some interesting melodies on this album, but having to listen to Michael Stipe tell me how much life sucks got old halfway through the album.

1st track- pretty good, 7/10 2nd track- kinda ass so far wtf, 2/10 3rd track- the voice cracks pmo, very forgettable 2/10 4th track - i liked the key shifts, he is sooo whiny omg 4/10 5th track - its ok i guess. i really hate 80's production 3/10 6th track - i really like the piano, and i fucking hate his voice sooo much omg why is he complaining about kids laughing at him in his annoying voice 3/10 7th track - the whining works? 6/10 i wouldnt go back to it but its not bad. 8th track - this would have been really good without it being 80's, give this to weezer itd be absolutely peak 5/10 9th track- this is sooo ass omg 1/10 way to slow his vibrato pmo 10th track- not bad, 5/10 11th track- THIS IS ASS lol the layering is off. did not feel like a end to an album 1/10 i did not like this, it is not conherent, lyrics dont have much behind them, and overall just isnt my taste, id say like a 3/10, there is worse but things can be a whole lot better.

It's not a coincidence that I avoid REM (whereas WAR was a total surprise out of nowhere). One of them was alright to begin with but just turned into the usual REM dirge. It might be Stipe's earnest droning voice. It might be the instrumentation (but no - the band are perfectly good. It's definitely Stipe. He's whining.

Never really liked R.E.M. They've always come across to me as a band that loves smelling their own farts, and they expect you to enjoy it as well. The only redeemable song on the album is "Stand" but even that one gets old fast.

I’m not sure why this simple music is considered smart? Is it because it’s so impossibly white? Stipe’s childish lyrics and atonal vocals, joined by average rock-folk instrumentals, and you somehow get a legion of pampered white collegiate devotes swooning to their groove. Ugh. What the loving fuck? Hard to find a more overrated group.

1/10 I only truly resonated with one song off this album, I also found that I didn’t fancy the lyricism throughout my listening. Unfortunately this was not to my taste at all.

Not again. I regret every day not giving the other REM album a 1. I think about it. If it wasn’t for man on the moon, that puppy was dead. Now. This one is earlier and may have some vitality that wasn’t wrung out by corporate rock radio. Not holding out hope. Well maybe a little. Is that… life??? Is that an alive Michael Stipe not buried in an inky, glimmering shit pile? This song is nice. It’s not great, but it’s something and that really is something compared to the 1992 one. Get up is whatever. It kind of floats by. This is too ballad-y. Gets a little medieval. The theme song to the greatest anti-sitcom ever produced. Simple and decent but it’s forever associated with Get a Life. Which is the best. Man the pseudo country stuff sucks for this. But the vocal melody is excellent in places and the piano is nice. Nah man. Don’t say happy game to play. This sucks. Kingdom Come Deliverance background music with one of the players of the game singing. No man. Stop. This is fucking embarrassing. Uwu I’m just a wittle boy, I have no fwiends. This is the worst. Lowlight alert. I hate that I like the vocal thing at the end, but otherwise this was an immolated garbage barge. Product placement time. I always liked this song when I was younger. It’s fine. This sounds like Bon Jovi and u2 doing a medley track. How does that sound to you? Imagine it. I think it sounds like a benefit concert for Wall Street bankers who had to pay taxes this year. Hard pass. Guys. Come on here. STOP. What was this song????? I wish I could forget California. I really expected to like this album a lot more than I did. I feel like it's not really pop or rock, so it sits in this almost uncanny valley between the two genres. Every song has a moment or two that I enjoyed, but the songs themselves feel jarring and musically uncomfortable in my opinion. Not a very pleasant listen

As someone who has even liked REM in the past!: tbh I don't know why it made the list. Lousy poetry, not sold on the politics (in fairness, politics are fucking hard to write about cleverly and convincingly), musically meh, and the interplay between lyrics/vocals and music meh.

Nothing offensive about this. R.E.M. has always been a "greatest hits" band for me generally speaking. Maybe it was groundbreaking or very innovative in indie rock for it's time and michale stipe is a very iconic voice in both lyrics and general tone but nothing outside of Orange Crush really hits for me.

I don’t know who bothered to remaster this piece of hot garbage, but clearly they wasted their time. The album was whiney and pretty annoying to listen to. I make fun of music like this all the time.

Nothing stands out very much with this album, and while I can appreciate it probably was potentially inspirational to the future of alt-rock music, it seems so bland and non-provoking that I would not listen to it again, and will likely not think of it again. 1/5 or 21/100.

Honestly, i’m such a big fan of every REM album but this one. I felt i kinda had to push my way through it. I honestly don’t know if i could even choose a favorite from this album. was not the vibe. Any other album i would have absolutely loved.

R.E.M was never my thing outside of the most popular songs (Orange Crush included which is on this album and it’s a great song). I don’t particularly care for the sound or vocals much, so this is miss in my personal opinion.
