Don't like them.
Worth remembering in 1987 that The Cure was doing moodiness way better and that overseas The Replacements were doing the jangly power pop thing way better. Some nice guitar tones, that's about it.
1/5 - I dislike the vocals so much I couldn't listen to more than 1 song. Fuck Morrissey.
I don’t get the Smiths. Pretentious pseudo rock with a touch of disco ? And Morrissey besides being an idiot isn’t a good singer. 1 star

The only positive thing about this album is that it means that we're almost over listening to Morrisey.
Massive amounts of weed and shrooms seem the likely reason the outlandish lyrics permeate this entirely bizarre album. An entire song about "Girlfriend in a coma," feels like it was written by either an immature teenager or generative AI. A single listen to all songs will suffice for the rest of my life.

Nothing really stood out to me.
Never really got The Smiths, and the cod-reggae opener didn't help. Chuck in the 'lyrics' to Paint and I wonder why anyone ever lauded Morrissey's way with words. Those words clearly got away from him. Apparently both Morrissey and Marr claim this is their best album, which probably tells me all I need to know about this.

I've never been a huge fan of The Smiths. This album didn't excite me, but it was easy listening for work. I wouldn't seek it out, but I didn't hate it.
