DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing.....", an album I struggled to connect with on any level. I found it to be a monotonous and tiresome listen that felt more like a chore than a pleasure. By the fourth track, the experience became a test of endurance, and I found myself just waiting for it to end. I found it to be a long and difficult listen. Noise

Pretty dry and boring. Each song resuses a lot of the same beats, sounds, loops, etc. Maybe in its time it was experimental and risky, but in the present day it's very safe and overdone. 3/10

Never heard of this group. A lot of interesting sound effects, several times it sounded like a CD sounded when it was skipping. I’m glad I was listening to this while working so I didn’t totally waste an hour of my life listening to this.

Yay another album of 5 second loops that go on for 7 minutes straight. A couple of the tracks would be cool if somebody rapped a verse over them or something.

Not my usual type of listen but I can see why people would like it. It is a really cool concept for an album with the use of samples and beats Highlights: - What Does Your Soul Look Like, Pt. 1 (Blue Sky Revisit) - Mutual Slump - Changeling

The Good: It’s a clear end… The Bad: yet we were still troduced to it… The Ugly: fill in the blanks I’ve waited over a week to rate this album… why? Because slowly but surely my patience is being tested too much…. I think that I have been forced to listen to over 10 albums that were released since the late ‘90s, and we all know that hardly anything good was released since the introduction of 1 too many electronic/rap/numetal/pop crap So here’s to me finding out just now that yesterday’s album is Sign ‘O the Times, and that is going to be an easy 5* for me… This album, is a skip 1* Sorry DJ Shadow

nothing wowing

Mostly drum fill instrumentals which are fun with some record scratching and hip hop remix elements. You could listen to this while walking through a park or city any time. Losing interest through the album as there are repetitive and tedious parts. The sense of humor in the first few tracks falls off as it goes on. Upon 2nd listen to some of these tracks it's actually pretty low effort and crappy.

Not even forgettable as I barely noticed it was playing in the first place.

I did not like the beginning, but the middle didn't seem too bad. Then toward the end it got really old and I felt like I was in a trance. I just don't get it.

I can't think of anyone I would ever recommend this to. I feel like whatever this is had already been done way better prior to 1996 and way better after 1996. Wikipedia says a lot of the techniques used were groundbreaking and still used today, but sampling was used prior to this so I don't get it. Doesn't feel like it was very groundbreaking. Ambient filler music that you probably need to be stoned for. Fun fact - was not stoned for this. Did not enjoy.

Tuned this out and by the time I came back to it, was 11 tracks in. Couldn't remember a single thing.

A frustrating and tedious listen.It's aptly titled in that each track feels like an introduction building to something more engaging, but the rug is pulled every time as the proceeding track is another haunted house themed slog. There are some soundtrack worthy beats.

Hate it

Just not for me. I can definitely appreciate the artistry of certain moments and some of it’s pretty vibey, but overall I found it dull and ended up fast-forwarding through a number of tracks. (1.5 stars)

Album - Entroducing… Artist - DJ Shadow Release - 1996 Genre - Instrumental Hip Hop/Trip Hop/Plunderphonics/Sampledelia Heard it before? - N Nothing has ever defined “not my scene” for me more than this album. It was made by and for sample nerds. It’s a bunch of cut and pasted samples strewn together by quality drumbeats. While I can understand the appeal and artistry of music like this, it just doesn’t work for me. I’m not even sure it would work if I was a dedicated hip hop fan. Isn’t half the appeal of the genre the rapping? 2/10

Reading up on Entroducing I was intrigued but what I was about to listen to. Using samples to create essentially an entire album seemed like a a great concept. Unfortunately, I like the idea of this album a lot more than the execution. It's mostly just a mish mash of random sounds with no staying power. There are a couple of decent segments but nothing that will have any lasting effect beyond this listen. I think the lack of any true vocals hurt this album as there is not much to listen and relate to for an hour. Endtroducing was a pretty big miss for me. 1.46 stars

That's the first DJ album that I've seen in here and I really expected some (at least) decent performance. Unfortunately, it is another one of those albums where you have to be on drugs to actually enjoy it. It was definitely too much and definitely less than meh.

Honestly the worst

Move the needle? No. Major insult for a Deej Of his calibre. This album was genuinely awful. The samples seem to lack direction, and impact. The beats, banal. Entirely unremarkable. Doofi on Reddit were recently wanking about it too.

Okay this album kinda sucked. The concept is cool, and I can appreciate the uniqueness of the production, but the beats were generally just okay, and the whole album sound unfinished. No lyrics, plus most of the songs just being okay, plus some of the experimental stuff just didn’t sound good to me. Plus the album was way too long

Ugh, hip hop and electronica, two of my least favorite genres. It seemed to take forever for a song to get going and once it did, it didn't go anywhere. Most relatable song, "Why hip hop sucks in 96" except I would remove "in 96" to make it more accurate.

This one wasn’t really for me. It’s pretty good if I just want background music when I work or do other things, but I can’t say it that it touched me in any deeper way. There are many other electronic albums that, to me, are way better - even as background music! Maybe it’s an interesting work from a technical standpoint, but that’s about it for me. I didn’t find it exciting or meaningful. Next!

I'm checking the book out from the library to try and figure out why this album is on the list. I get that it was unique by only using tracksvalready recorded, but it was painful to listen to at times. Did he use a sound effects album on this?

I feel bad but I couldn’t get into this at all. Like not even slightly. Maybe back when I was into stuff like Girl Talk I would’ve been able to appreciate the technical aspect of the sampling and everything like that, but trying a few times over the weekend I couldn’t get interested in it at all. I’ve never heard of DJ Shadow before. If I’m being honest, that name alone would usually put me off for sounding so cringey. Nevertheless, today I’ll be listening to this and seeing what I think of it. I hope it’s better than the name suggests. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: The Number Song They say not to judge a book by its cover, but in this case I feel like I judged well. This music is really not for me. I didn’t mind The Number Song, but otherwise it all sort of mushed into one thing which all sounded basically the same. It wasn’t dynamic enough to hold my attention, but I did keep it on and make it to the end. There’s not much more to say on this. It’s just not for me.

I guess this means something, I guess it did something at the time. But it's just a series of samples and a drum beat that you could throw together in 5 minutes in Logic Pro now. I don't know why anyone would want to listen to this ever again.

Sorry, this sounds like someone who got decks for Christmas and was working out how to annoy everyone. Not my thing - maybe I’m missing something, though whatever it is I can live without, thank you.

I go into this biased: I hate edm and techno. It's like nails on the chalkboard to me. With that being said I went into this with an open mind. Maybe since it was on this list it may change my mind. God knows my son would love that. Within 5 minutes I was wondering if i could convince a deity to send someone with a hot soldering iron to jam into my ear to end the pain. After about twenty minutes or so (Felt like an eternity), the song (can you really call them that though? ) what does your soul look like came on. This was the only reprieve on the entire album. This is the one track that if I was stuck on an elevator listening too I wouldn't end it all. After that one track it was back to pondering whether a rusty screwdriver to the ear would end the pain. I listened to it all, I will never willing do it again, even though most of these albums I listen to twice in case is something that might grow on me.
