Reviews (page 14 of 14)

I don't usually listen to Jazz so this is definitely out of my wheelhouse but I've enjoyed the other Jazz records I've gotten on here more than this one. The only track that really stuck out to me was "Take Five". Most of it kind faded into the background. Per wikipedia I guess this is considered "cool jazz" with relaxed tempos and a lighter tone. That makes sense - probably just not the right Jazz for me (I typically favor more intense music). Your milage may vary.

Apparently required listening for using unusual time signatures (at the time). I don't mind a coffeehouse record, but this coffeehouse is a bit too academic. Everyone here considers themselves an intellectual (they are). The cappuccino is too dry. C-

Never heard of this but 1959? that was a while ago. Trying to guess by the cover... maybe jazz? or "swing"? Ok it's jazz. Bit wacky, bit experimental, it's ok. End thoughts: I pretty much forgot it was going. That isn't exactly the mark of a good album. It didn't shit me, but it was completely forgettable. 2/5.

I actually really like Jazz. Jazz musicians understand their craft at a level most people will never appreciate. You have to really know music and your instrument in order to step on stage without knowing what you're going to do - if that makes sense. BUT - to me - Jazz shouldn't really be recorded. It's meant to be listened to live. AND, if you're going to record it, it should be a live recording, in my humble opinion. I like "dirty" jazz - I want to hear mistakes and guys talking to each other while they're playing. Dave and the rest of the quartet are truly talented musicians, but this seemed over-produced for a jazz album - and maybe a little self-indulgent (almost half the songs featured only Dave, not the quartet).

Nope. Not for me.

It's the YA house open music

Indifferent

Good elevator music

Great background music. Not my jam, but it's a lot of fun. If I hosted dinner parties, I would be all over this.

I just don't love jazz.

Couldn't finish it. Wasn't very interested.

Too much Jazz. But still good on a music level.

It was ok in the background but it did not spark joy. Funny time signatures I didn't get what that did

Don’t really like jazz

Kinda disappointed. Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five are catchy but overall I guess I'm not all that into this kind of cool jazz.

Not my mood today.

It’s a no from me dawg

Nunca tinha ouvido jazz e não sabia se gostava, agora ouvi e sei que não gosto.

Noise pollution

jazz ei oikein iske

If anxiety was an album.

I’m sorry to all the jazz heads, but this all sounds the same to me. plus, Take Five is waaaaaaaaaayyyyy overplayed for me to still like it. 2/10

this felt like it was never ending

0/7 bekannt 3/10 Beste Songs: Blue rondo a la Turk, take five, Kathys waltz War zwar minimal besser als die anderen Alben aber WARUM SO VIEL JASS?

Not a huge fan of jazz but this was pretty groovy ! Fav song is ‘Kathy’s Waltz’.

Extra confirmation that jazz really isn’t my thing but it’s not unbearable.

dont care for jazz

I hate jazz. This was no exception.

Booooo

I hate it

Too trad/lounge for me I’m afraid - rounders as opposed to cricket as it were. 2/10. Tom.

Love this but I am a fan of jazz although this is very accessible and would recommend to people who say they don’t like jazz.

Forgettable

i feel like jazz never drops. it’s too continuous. the chord progressions don’t sit right with me. it feels dissonant. had a hard time listening and couldn’t finish. boring af.

Quite a distracting album - jumpy and felt almost patchy in parts. I understand that's the style of the music but it wasn't to my taste. Would not listen again by choice.

don't like Jazz

Apart from Take 5 just noodly jazz!

I hate this album!! I will tell you why. Its boring. None of them are engaging soloists. Particularly Paul Desmond, he just sounds like he's practicing scales. Take Five, the best selling jazz song of all time, is practically one groove for the whole song. There is so much way better and much more interesting jazz out there. I could go full elitist and talk about how none of them have ever heard of outside playing, but Erroll Garner, Cannonball Adderley, and Oscar Peterson prove that that doesn't matter. Blue Rondo is a great tune though, I wish it had better players on it. What fucks me off far more about this record however is its mythos. Its the best selling jazz record of all time at over 2M copies, and its so often held up as incredibly innovative and formative for the genre. Anybody who knows anything about jazz history knows that that is just not true! The harmony is ofc completely standard, and the time signature stuff is not even new either! The real reason that this album sold so well and is so well regarded, and again anybody who knows anything about jazz history can tell you this, is because Dave Brubeck (and 2/3 of his band) was white!!! The record and radio industries at the time were segregated (even in the north!) and it was near impossible for black artists (who invented jazz and had been doing everything on this record and so so so much more for decades) to break out into the American mainstream because of severe systemic racism and segregation. This album isn't good, don't listen to it, stop lapping up the racist lie, and fuck Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond culture vultures I spit on them

More fucking jazz 🤢

I knew and like take Five, but I absolutely hated the rest.

Gosh, jazz is just crap isn’t it.

Probably the best jazz record thus far from the list...but still not great. It has the cool vibe and I think I've heard "Take Five" before which carries the album with its sleuthy tone. The Dave Brubeck Quartet is certainly better than The Bill Evans Trio...extra guy helps I guess. Not too mad about taking some Time Out to hear this one but it's still only getting a 1.2 star rating.

Didn’t care for the jazz

One day soon, this project will realise that no amount of offering me jazz will make me like the genre, and we’ll all be happier for it.

Not for me

Jazz has its place, which is soundtracks. I would never listen to this.

Simple. Jazz is just not my type of music.

-jazztastic -not really my thing honestly. -would be good as study music thought due to it being chill instrumental. -sounds like something an expensive coffee shop would play. -album cover is really cool though not gonna lie I CANT SPELL ALBUM

I'm afraid I just don't get Jazz. boring

The thing about jazz is when you listen to it, at the beginning, it sounds like pure shite. But if you are patient and you get to the middle of track, you slowly start to see that it is still pure shite. And finally when you get to the end, you see that you were wrong. It is more even more shite than you thought. The whole genre is pure shite ya'll sophisticated-wannabes!!!!

1hr and 33 minutes of late 60s jazz. What a way to start the week!! I was not a fan at all. Everything sounds the same and is boring. I couldnt pick a favourite or least favourite track. Album artwork: Cool cover though

Not for me.

Can't get used to jazz, yes I'm a philistine.

Literally elevator music

Jazz is not for me

I find music like this incredibly irritating, but that's a problem with me, not the music.

Oh great more jazz.

nu are BOOM ii eh BOOM

This is the sort of album that Jamie Cullum has wet dreams over, but not for me. Like all the other jazz albums before it's boring, repetitive and goes on for far too long.

Strange

Noty style

This was horrible. I am not a fan of jazz, but this felt like it was grinding my brain down with how boring, monotonous and slow it was.

Einschläfernder West Coast Jazz.

A little annoying

Отстаньте

Smooth Jazz, people were probably wilding to this at the time

Might be good if I was running a barber shop

Poprilično sam siguran da sam sve ove numere čuo dok sam čekao da mi se javi agent hrvatskog telekoma.

This just is not the type of music I like to listen to.

Not a big fan of music with no singing. Not for me

Tämä saa suhteeni todellisuuteen värittymään hupsulla korniudella, jonka kokeminen ajaa minua ahdistuksen suuntaan, ja jokainen bluesahtava hetki, joka saattaisi tulla pelastukseksi, pilaantuu sillä, että kaveriksi saapuu kävelevä basso - tuo sulavan kömpelö klovni, joka kietoo käden ympärille limaisella maanläheisyydellään.

This rating isn't the fault of the album. I just hate jazz and this is unlistenable for me. I think if you enjoy jazz, you will enjoy this album.

Definitely not my kind of music

Not for me

I hate clarinet jazz!

A mercifully short album

That first track is just noise

Jazz. Not my thing (though even with some classics)

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Nah, very typical ambience jazz you wouldn’t pay attention to but notice in a restaurant or home ware store. Favourite track: didn’t have one

Not my style of music and I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm sure it's great for what it is, but I really struggled to get through it.

More garbage I mean jazz

Ik heb echt m'n best gedaan, ben tot halverwege het 4e nummer gekomen. Maar toen begon het me zo op m'n zenuwen te werken dat ik iets anders opgezet.

How delightfully wicked. The perfect soundtrack for eating lamb chops. Iris Law listens to it in the bath.

garbage clown music soz

Écoute facile, bonne introduction au jazz.

Absolute classic full of ear worms, including the classic Take Five.
