Reviews (page 16 of 16)
Bought this when it was first released and it sent me backwards in time to some fantastic music. It remains a guilty pleasure.
Pretty good
Fleetwood Mid Prefs: Second Hand News, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman Moins pref: Never Going Back Again
It's a decent album, but a couple of tracks stand out way more. I can't divorce this, as a work, from the stories that go with it. I think that had it not been such source of speculation, rumour and newspaper inches it wouldn't be as highly rated as it is. Shortly after the release of this album, Stevie Nicks was approached by Bill Shatner, who proposed marriage. Looking at the Star Trek money, Stevie considered it briefly before realising that she didn't want to be called Stevie Shatner-Nicks for the rest of her life.
Several well known radio songs. Okay
Eh it was alright
Most of the songs are catchy, fast, and to the point. I cannot, however, get over my dislike of the southern/countryish sound or feel of the music. So there isn't a ton wrong with this album per se, but the style of music is not for me.
Simple, enjoyable, flowing 70s music. Nostalgic for a time I wasn't part of.
Can kind of understand why it's rated so highly, but I just didn't gel with this one as an album mostly Couple of standout cuts though, especially The Chain
It's part of my upbringing. It's a fine album but I don't own a copy (which says something) and I'd never listen to it by choice.
kinda boring (lame)
Liked 1 song the rest was only ok
As a first time listen, it's pretty chill and vibey. I'm surprised how much of it I already knew from exposure alone. Can't say I'm a massive fan of Fleetwood Mac but I'm sure it'll grow on me.
It's good! It's fine! Sounds more modern like all of Fleetwood Mac to be honest.
It was fine. Wasn't exciting.
What a big album, what a distinct sound. It's an absolute soft rock behemoth, hugely influential. In parts it also feels - well - a little superficial. The sound is immaculate but I never feel like I can get lost in the music. The surface level is beautiful, but I'm not sure there's a whole lot underneath. Good, very good in places, with moments of genius. Yet I don't feel massively compelled to give Rumours another spin anytime soon.
"The Chain" mastered the art of suspense, verse, chorus, tappy drums... is it now, no! Then the same, same results. Then 3rd time round... boom, the F1 music starts. Loved it. The rest is remarkably unremarkable consider how well regarded this album is.
3.5 but more 3 than 4 so 3.
music to race motor cars to
I was waiting for this album because everybody hyped it up and i thought it's very good. It's kinda boring, just good quality dad rock. I don't know how it got the title of "one of the greatest albums of all time" but ok, still pretty decent.
Ah. This is the famous Fleetwood Mac album. Honestly, I've never really gone out of my way to listen to these guys. Sure, if their playing on the radio or a music channel but album wise..not really my band. If it wasn't for the commonly played tracks I properly would've rated this lower.
If you asked 1000 people to name one song off this album and made a histogram of the results, 99% of the answers would involve 'Dreams,' 'Go Your Own Way,' or 'The Chain.' This isn't a knock on the LP, but it definitely depends on a few anthemic tracks that have stood the test of time for most of its impact. The other songs are pleasant, but lack the absolute verve that these 3 powerhouses incorporate (as well as feeling a little dated... Wurlitzer much?), and it's hard not to feel as if they're filler around absolute killer in an album that dominates vinyl sales even today. The additional reliance on fadeouts for the end of every track gives the album an almost unfinished feel as well.
I thought I’d like this album more. Maybe had too high of expectations.
Rock, pop
Overrated but still good. Dreams and The Chain are top notch. There rest ranges from average to pretty good, but not truly great. Don't Stop borders on being annoying. If you took the lesser songs off this album and combined the strong songs here with the best cuts of the self titled album you'd have a 5 star masterpiece. More Stevie would've helped too. More Stevie is always good. This is probably a 3.5 or 4. I'm giving it a 3 because my lord is it overrated.
Solid album, bunch of classics 3+
Practically every song is a super-hit of the 70s / early 80s. Definitely feels like you're watching a movie from the era. The nostalgia factor is there and I could definitely see adding several of these songs to a dinner party playlist. In general, though, it's not something I'd listen to regularly
Baby in the hot tub, baby in the hot tub la la la la, la la la la.
I liked it but it's not like I haven't heard this before both literally and metaphorically
Bonne ambiance
Never listened to this in full. Mostly familiar with the hits, sounded very clean and would be good to play along with. Filler tracks very meh
Familiar with a few songs, like dreams and the chain. Some others I've heard before. Pretty good music, but not one of my favorites. Liked silver springs
Good band. NOt exactly my musical preference, but not bad.
I guess you had to be there to get it. 'Chains' earns it a lot of goodwill, though. Ok, the second half of chains. The ‘Top Gear’ bit. And that skateboard song too. Laidback and fuck. But otherwise, the album is largely caterwauling for a live studio audience.
Fleetwood mac e mid… ändra min åsikt…
Very decent with some great songs. I'm also a fan Lindsey Buckingham's voice.
Very catchy but many of the songs feel a bit undercooked.
Banger after banger after banger! Incredible
A bunch of spiteful and heartbroken musicians came together to make a very pleasant sounding pop album, though I think it is quite far from being one of the best. While Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain sound hauntingly beautiful, I find that the rest sounds too sappy and dumb. Maybe I need a few more years on me to understand the feelings communicated here. Untill then, this is a solid 3/5.
There are some iconic songs on this album, and personally, much as I admire him as a guitarist, I'm generally not a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham's songwriting ('Never Going Back Again,' one of his tracks on this album, is good, though). I do like Christine McVie's and Stevie Nicks' songs; some I like quite a bit. Love both their voices and they are excellent lyricists, especially Nicks. I like the sadness mixed with hope I can hear in the songs on this album. They all have great senses of melody; super-hard for me not to hum or sing along with nearly all tracks on this album, even the songs I don't fully like.
Nice
Already have listened to this album is snazzy I like it. The chain will always be my favorite fm song.
It's a love/meh album. A lot of tens, and a lot of sevens.
Has some bangers.
Good but not all that people say.
it's meh, "trilha de novela"
Not a huge fan of this album, in part because I way over-heard it when it was released. I also prefer the earlier incarnations of the Mac. It is technically a good pop album, I'm just not big on it.
Cool stuff! Like the classics
classics
Lots of hits on this album. Not a repeat listen for me.
No, it's all true.
Yksi legendaarinen leka ja soi hyvin noin muutenkin
To be honest, I had this on while busy. So it didn't get a full, critical listen, but it never jumped to my attention either.
Only songs that just about strike a nerve are ‘you make loving fun’ and ‘the chain’. Even then bit of a boring album I don’t understand the insane hype over this album, first impressions are dated country music
I struggle to see why this is so popular. Like, it’s fine but it’s insane how popular it is for the middle of the road song writing
When Rumours first came out, you couldn’t escape it. Turn on the radio, it was playing. Go to a party, it was playing. How do you rate an album you’ve heard hundreds of times, know every song by heart, yet still don’t really like? Despite selling millions of copies and being hailed as a classic by so many, for me it’s a 2-star album.
I find the format and slow moving pace to be boaring.
I feel peer pressure to give this high rating but it's not my cup of tea.
Aside from go your own way I find this album really tedious I know tons of my friends love it and are always talking about it but I think it’s boring. Sorry.
Unimpressed. I've been avoiding this record since I started the albums generator, it's so overwhelmingly popular that it starts off on its own after listening to a lot of the classics that we're coursing through. I guess the important part is that I get it. There's a lot of work on the strings, the bass is a protagonist, so is the guitar, so are the vocals, it's a well balanced piece from a strictly academic perspective. Now, on a more personal note, it feels like just an extension of Americana or country-forward sounds. It also carries some studio tricks that predate a lot of the classic '80s radio play that saturated the waves even today some 40ish years later. I don't appreciate it, but I understand how influential this is. It is impressive to mesh sounds that are both traditionally English with sounds that are definitely American folk, it ends up being exactly why I dislike pop-rock, with one or two standout tracks that I can't hate because they're super well pulled off. I can now say this is a boring addition to any record collection. It's not that special, it's just historic and ridiculously easy to digest. I gave it a second listen in the afternoon and it was extra annoying, I got to feel the cheese ooze from it. 2.5/5
2.5
Track 1: annoying how he pronounces "know" as "low". Fun chorus Track 2: Overrated. The lyrics annoy me but the instrumental is good Track 3: nice acoustic song. Would probably be better without vocals Track 4: cheesy song. Not a fan Track 5: cheesy intro and don't like how he says some of the lines "but how can I ever change things that I feeeeeeelllll?" Track 6: nooooooooo Track 7: nice Western style song Track 8: Christine McVie's voice is just not nice to listen to Track 9: filler Track 10: nope Track 11: strong chorus but the rest of it is kinda boring I do not like Christine McVie's songs. Favorite song: The Chain Rating 2/5
I never liked it his one
Just no
Disc y banda sobrevalorados.
i think it was a bit boring, it probably was more innovative when it first came out my favorite song was the chain
Chill i guess, who doesnt know „dreams“, I suppose good and really popular Album, not my stuff
Sick of it, frankly.
Fleetwood whack. Songs that shaved this shit from being 1 star: Go your own way, the chain
BRO WHAT DID I JUST LISTEN TO???? :sob: :skeleton: good songs: The Chain, Gold Dust Woman rest is either mid or bad (Oh Daddy) I am disappointed.
Probably the best of the MOR Fleetwood Mac, but no comparison to the original band.
A shoo-in for top-10 overrated. People talk about this MOR tosh like it’s some great work of art, when it’s just music for people who don’t really like music.
Anyone who thinks this is a great album does so because they feel nostalgia towards it. At best, this is a mediocre roadtrip album except The Chain, at worst, this is a KingFM album. Bunch of emotionally challenged and immature people, dissing and praising each other's equally stupid lovers. I don't even know why this album is SO damn highly rated. Except Fleetwood and Mac, everyone in the group has someone much talented. Kate Bush beats Nicks, physically and musically AND culturally, Lindsay wishes he has a boy's name and guitar skills of an average bluesman. I wish they'd practice music more than they practiced human anatomy on each others labias and dicks. Jesus christ i'm sick of this mid ass group
Definetely overrated. 'The Chain' isn't a bad track, but to have this record as the best rated above all albums on this list is outrageous. They massacred Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and transformed it into a bland pastiche of soft dad rock, if you can call it that.
The Chain me parece buena canción.
1. neuuz - 1 2. dreamz - 3 3. again - 1 4. ztop - 1.5 5. go -1.5 6. zong - 1 7. chain - 2 8. fun - 2 9. knouu - 1 10. daddy - 1 11. gold - 1.5
Nehh.
Some good jams but I simply can't overall with Fleetwood Mac. I respect that this album is important and meaningful to people. Adult Contemporary.
Bumper sticker that says "I'd Rather Be Listening To Fleetwood Mac's 1979 Double LP "Tusk""
I have totally skipped this band, so this is the very first listen: It sounds surprisingly not outdated...It is okay...would I listen to it again, probably not...
Ihan kuunneltavaa tämä
Besides two extremely good songs, I really don't like this album and I find most of Fleetwood Mac to be insufferably overrated after they added Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Klassikko levy joka ei kolahtanut. Äänimaailma tosi kapea ja laiska. Biisit eivät - hittibiisejä lukuunottamatta - iskeneet.
My wife had roommates who liked this record way too much and she is still traumatized. Marking it down out in solidarity.
Ok, rather pleasant, but not sure I'd return to it on my own.
Almost sleepy stuff
Once again, backgorund music with few ups.
Not my type of music, kinda bored listening to it.
I get it, but it's not for me. Half marks. Some good ones and that nostalgia, but i don't like several of the band's characteristics.
It's fine I guess? I couldn't listen to more than 3 songs though.
Just never been a fan. It's all very Meh.
Most of the songs fade out if compared with the album's hit. I'd single out the outro song "Gold Dust Woman". However, almost all of tye other songs are forgotten once you finish them. Essentially a one-hit record.
I feel like everyone sees in Fleetwood Mac something that I don't seem to. I won't get into the childish "overrated" rants (that I agree with!), but something about this just generally isn't that great. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's not as amazing as people say it is. Too pop. Feels like driving to somewhere you don't want to at 7 a.m and this is what's playing on the radio. And on one hand you're like, "okay, good music", and on the other you're like, "okay, the bad side of good music" and your day just becomes more miserable. And by "good" I generally mean "of quality." And so, I feel like "the bad good music" is the perfect category for this album (and the band in general, at least as for now - as in their works that I have heard, not works released. I don't think they need to release new songs just for me to judge if they're good yet. They can if they want to, though. Aww that'd be nice of them!) The only song I can say I liked is "You Make Loving Fun." I also think that the songs being so overplayed really affected what I think of them and their tolerability. 2.5/5 sorry :(
meh, overplayed
I realize I am in the great minority, but I really don’t like this album. Never have. Objectively, it’s not bad music. I just don’t care for Stevie Nicks’ voice (again, I know an unpopular opinion) and don’t remember ever not being sick of hearing any of these songs. The only song I kind of enjoyed was Never Going Back Again, which doesn’t have Nicks singing and I’ve never heard before, so maybe I might like earlier Fleetwood Mac. I have just always hated this album. For personal preference, it’s a 1/5, but because I realize the songs themselves are not “bad,” I’ll give it a 2/5.
fine
Jesus, I hope I can get through this. It was fine
einige bekannte songs, that‘s it - ich mochte Fleetwood Mac nie besonders.
Meh. 2/5
The Chain is the only song I really like on this album.
it's well done . but not my cup of tea.
If it weren't for Stevie Nicks this would be 1 star. I never paid attention to Fleetwood Mac before. All I ever knew was that old people seem to love it. Little did I know, I've already heard nearly every song on this album before. I FUCKING hated it. That guys voice dude. It evokes some bad feelings. It reminds me of some lame ass old, dead inside, lethargic, middle-aged, farty, white man from Vancouver Washington. Fuck this music dude.
Quite frankly couldnt wait for the album to finish. There were sparks here and there, but overall it felt dragged out and uninventive YNN
meh
not as bad as I feared. most people seem to like the harmonies.. I do not. the ones where it's just Cristine singing are not so bad.
It's just kind of boring. Dreams is...OK, I guess ? Not for me, thanks.
shrug
I think I've come a long way since starting this project, I can even stomach Bob Dylan's harmonica shoegaze now, but man do I not understand the obsession with some of these albums. It's not bad at all, has a few good songs (The Chain and Gold Dust Woman), but there's really nothing special
Okaaay, I just listened to this, closely. I've HEARD this album and all it's songs SO MANY TIMES over the decades and have NEVER enjoyed it. When it was released I was one year out of high school and all of the preppy kids that I went to school with loved and worshiped this album. That was one reason why I disliked this music and later when I was a little bit older I spent some time listening to the early Fleetwood Mac which I really found some pleasure in doing. But this album is so strictly pop that I do not find any pleasure from listening to it. It's overplayed and simplistic and ugh ugh ugh I'm sorry.
teilweise ok, wenn auch nicht mitreißend
Meh.
average
I don't get the love.
A couple great songs. Rest is pretty meh.
not my style of music
few good songs otherwise pretty bad
It has a couple of moments (Never Going Back Again, The Chain) but it’s mostly pretty dull soft rock nonsense.
Too Folk
Another track by track review: 1. Awful lyric with an especially annoying chorus. 2. The instrumental is kind of a hippie version of 70s soft rock. Stevie's vocal and lyrics are the only enjoyable thing here. 3. Another Lindsey Buckingham song. This guy is trying to be Paul Simon but he sounds like a shitty backup singer for The Eagles. And the words are really trash. He's got nothing to say. 4. The radio hit. It's not bad except it has that "honky-tonk" 1970s thing that turns me off. 5. Yecch. The rhythm section does sound good here despite the rest. 6. And a ballad to close out the first side. Perfect. It's OK I guess. I like it the way I like The Carpenters. 7. Kinda bluesy like a softer Led Zeppelin or Heart but without any edge whatsoever. 8. On a very white album this might be the only number with any kind of soul. Unfortunately it has that gross 70s way of writing about romance and sex that gives me the ick. Is this what set the mood for the conception of millions of people my age? I can't let myself even entertain the thought. 9. I really like Nicks' voice. I really do not like Buckingham's voice. I know this band was basically a polycule before that even existed but Stevie and Christine should have started their own thing. 10. The fuck? OK I take it back. Stevie Nicks is the only good thing in this group. 11. I could have sworn Kiss had a song by this same name.
On kuvaavaa, että levyn paras ja tarttuvin biisi, Go Your Own Way, enteilee makeilevaa kasaripoprokkia.
Really not a fan of Fleetwood Macs stuff after Peter Green left!
Trash mixed in with some of the best songs of all time, we need more Stevie nicks!!!! Any song without her sucked in comparison. Wouldn't listen to the whole album through again, but the chain and dreams are absolute classics
There are moments when I’m tempted to give this two stars then everything else happens…one star. Tom.
Overrated
No
Lifeless soft rock.
I think this album is overrated as hell but also it's probably because it comes up on the radio station at work every few days :/
Yes Stop
Las rolas chidas son Dreams, Never Going Back Again, Go Your Own Way y por mucho, muchísimo la mejor: The Chain. Lo demás es basura cocainómana. Hasta me emputa escuchar esta basura.
Some classic hits on this
Killer
Ok
