Reviews (page 10 of 10)

Wow this was horrible. I thought at first it might be something new to try and I should have an open mind but that shit down real quick after I heard the exact same phrase 30055927 times in one song, every song, for over an hour. No song should be that repetitive to a point where I can tell the title before it his the 30 second mark every single time. I could do snippets of each song for half a minute but this version is hell.

This is the best French music ever made

Computers have been replacing humans for a long time.

First listen Saved 0/16

Never been a big fan of Daft Punk, particularly their earlier work. I prefer more complex drum rhythms and less repetitive, experimental noise. This listen certainly didn't change my mind.

There's some good things on this album. Unfortunately they all massively overstay their welcome to the point that I end up hating them. I would rather castrate myself with a rusty spoon than listen to this headache inducing mess again.

Who knew Around the World was 7 fucking minutes long? I know Daft Punk have a real buzz about them and I’m sure it’s cause they’re good at what they do if you’re into that sort of thing. I kinda hate music that just repeats on a loop, so not off to the best start with these guys. Was considering a 2 but I think I need to deduct a point for having too many long songs that is just the same goddamn beat for 7+ minutes

Not really into house/dance music. It is so repetitive. I get their influence on the genre. Just not for me.

I do not love electronic music, so we will see if this album changes my mind a bit. First song is repetitive (which is one of my issues with electronic music). I do like the seamless transitions. On song 4 of a 31 song album and I already want to peel my skin off at the one-dimensional, repetitive beats. I do like the ocean sounds in Fresh a lot. That was different and nice. Around the World is a good song, possibly due to nostalgia for me. Rollin and Scratchin is the worse song on this album yet. It is actively offensive. Teachers was a nice song after all that lol. High Fidelity is more of the same repetitive nonsense, both musically and lyrically. Rock n Roll is also a shockingly bad song. Burnin sounds like lasers and not in a good way. Glad it is over. It's a 1 from me Dawg.

Requires a lot of xtc to understand and fully enjoy.

My ears are hurting

The wrong Daft Punk album.

Unz unz boooooooo

feels like talking to some pretentious man you've met at a bar

Electronica is probably my most challenging genre. This was a proper slog. The only bright side, it was kinda cool seeing some buds for future blooms. I enjoy a lot of DP's later work.

Why was this drivel so successful? Actual brain torture. I like electronic music, Orbital, Underworld, Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Jarre, and on and on. This is just infuriating repetitive toss. The repeated sections are so short and always have an irritating sound in them and are repeated endlessly with no variation. I genuinely hate this and I say that rarely about anything.

nightclub background music that no one cares about.

I don't mean to be a grouch...and maybe it was the mood I was in...but I just wanted this to stop. Annoying noises on repeat :(

Nope. Gar nicht

i don't understand why this album was so long!!!! it was SO repetitive--and the repetition was constant! i understand why daft punk should be on a list like this because they were so revolutionary but for the love of god, why is the album so long? one positive thought i had was that this album sounds a bit like prince if he did electronic. but you know, it wouldn't have been so annoying.

Ever since I can remember, I've always hated Daft Punk, outside of the tracks Da Funk and Technologic. Around The World, One More Time and Get Lucky are so basic and boring and I've never understood the appeal. I've tried numerous times to get into their music and the best I can muster up is a "meh." So, since this album has Da Funk on it, I was looking forward to it hoping I would like the other songs. After listening to the full album, I don't even know if I like Da Funk anymore. I started the album thinking, "this is ok, I'm sure it picks up and gets more interesting further in, maybe changes it up a bit." Nope. It's basically the same beat for the entire hour and 14 minutes. HOW IS IT SO LONG?! My boredom became hate and loathing during Rock N' Roll and stayed there for the rest of the album. I don't care that I'm going to catch hate for this but this album is not good and I'm tired of people pretending that Daft Punk makes good music. If this bothers or offends you, then you're probably basic and boring, because Daft Punk makes basic and boring music for basic and boring people. But that's ok! It's ok to listen to if you like hearing the same beat for 7 minutes and enjoy counting to 8 over and over again. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not for me. I'm sure all of their other albums are on this list and I am not looking forward to being bored by those albums either.

Repetitive, monotonous sounds. Did not like

Proof that you don't have to play real instruments or write lyrics to get famous. This is not for me. I've never been a fan of house music and the repetition on this is mind numbing. Such a relief when it ended.

I’d like my hour and change back please. I was not going to rate any album less than a 2, but for this I’ll make an exception. This album did make me want to dance…out of da club and into traffic.

Nope, there is nothing about this album that I like. Most tracks sounded as if someone put a 1980s dot matrix printer (you know the kind, with the paper that was all attached and you had to pull off the perforated hole sides) in a rave club and proceeded to print out War and Peace at different speeds. Nope! Fuck waterboarding a person...you want to torture someone? Make them listen to this entire album

Only good song is Around the World

No! This music literally gave me vertigo and made me nauseated. It was probably groundbreaking in 1997, but now I just lump it in with all the EDM music thumping from the site of the Electric Daisy Carnival which is too close to my home!

I hated it

Headache Inducing.

Gefällt mir nicht.

Soundtrack to the men's room in Hell.....Really? This is a must hear album?....Why?

Hard to listen too.......

Horrible

I hate music that repeat itself

I like daft punk but this album sucks

- ik it’s daft punk but if i have to listen to one more minute of this album i’ll probably cry

Awful. Just a bunch of electronically produced noise.

Can’t believe I got through a full hour of this. Absolutely dreadful, no idea why people seem to rate them. I’m actually annoyed at how much praise this pile of shite has got

I respect the impact they've had but not for me

Eh, definitely not my thing. To me, this was awful.

I can understand why this album was influential, and I can see how listening to some of this tracks in a club setting in the late 90s could be a great experience. However, I was listening to this on my way to work and found it repetitive and uninspiring.

I was regretful I had ears

Not my favorite

Say heck no to techno. I'm sorry, I want to love DP, but I just can't get into it.

this doesn’t deserve to be on this list. literally nothing special

muy tecni

Not my jam at all...

Drum machine for working out. Not music

I just don't get it

Not my cuppa.

Oh My God, the horror that was the 90's. No

Words please

Boring and repeatable. Songs are 2x too long.

This is a great reminder as to why I didn't like listening to Daft Punk until Random Access Memories

This is the music they play in hell. Repeating the same words over and over again and short repeating loops is crazy-making.

Quina putíssima merda més grossa. Sóc incapaç d'entendre com aquesta gent és tan popular. Vaya conyàs d'àlbum. No sé si ha envellit molt malament o no estic fet per música d'aquest estil però joder vaya pila de merda. Lorenzo expected rating: 3

NO! ??? music???

Could not get through it. It started off good, but then got incredibly repetitive. Add in the harshness of a couple tracks and I was done.

Ich kann mich damit nicht anfreunden. Die Musik macht mich echt aggressiv. Ist absolut nicht meins.

I just can't do super repetitive music in general. Regardless of genre. This was tough for me to get through tbh.

Punk is a no no

Redundant annoying garbage. I don't care if they were the pioneers of making music on a laptop.

Começou mal, continuou ruim no meio e só ficou bom no final pq acabou

I’m sure there’s someone out there for whom this is meaningful, beautiful, exciting music, and not loud, boring repetitive noise. But it ain’t me. And I won’t judge you if you like it; I have my fair share of noisy repetitive music that I enjoy (I wonder if Metal Machine Music is on this list?) But I get nothing from this.

I would like to thank this list for the respite we had on electronica albums we’ve listened to, and acknowledged that, yes, it is important we listen to more. So many more. Bring it on.

this is not 9am music actually no i'm like an hour into this and I don't think I'd ever like it

I like some Daft Punk songs a lot. I had only heard on song on this album before. It was an okay song. So many songs on here are awful though. Grating noise. Did not like.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Aaaahhhh!..........aaaahhhhh!............aaaahhhh!........aaahhh!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

I just don't like this style of electronic music.

I don’t completely dislike some of their songs but listening to a whole album was a very dreadful experience, honestly.

Sounded like what German drug addicts would like. Could only listen to a few minutes

-Da funk back to da punk come on - Hard to listen to when I’m not in the mood to dance - Very repetitive - Around the World is the best song - Not my favorite genre, I like a few daft punk songs but this album just was not for me

1. Nope, I'm sorry, but I can't do this.

My impression going in was that Daft Punk was super cool and I was really going to like this. That made this experience all the more disappointing. Maybe they are still super cool and just beyond me, but I did not enjoy this slog through the incessant repetition of slapped together beats and refrains.

Not my cup of tea

Wow this was just awful. I was kind of intrigued by this 3 hours of daft punk. I've enjoyed some of their songs. I listened to at least a minute of every song and even that was not worth my time. Even the good songs on this album were too repetitive to be enjoyable.

Not gonna lie, 3 songs in and I was already thinking, oh god how many left do I have to listen to. Definitely felt like “homework”. Same three words again and again for 6 minutes? Kinda put me to sleep. Maybe they were the best out there at the time? I just can’t say I enjoyed much of it.

oooooh hard no -- EDM is so not my style

Not really my style, it's fine beats but I prefer full on songs

Not a fan of electronica.

I just don't get it. When I was younger, I found Daft Punk to be boring and repetitive. Now that I'm older, I find Daft Punk to be boring and repetitive. Just not my genre 🤷‍♂️

Mostly incredibly repetitive tracks, with a few also repetitive catchy singles, I think this album is carried by people’s memory of two or three hooks and not much else

1/5 wtf, I can't bear it.

fully biased ranking but I just can't with house music

Thank god I don't have to listen to this again

Either you like house music or you don't. I don't.

Album edits are usually that - edited. This is the same bleary thumping crap that you need drugs to enjoy. Not a good album. I'm amazed and glad DP actually kept it up past this, but what a dogshit start.

太刺耳太吵,听不下去

This is horrible. It’s just the same shit on repeat.

Rating 'Homework' by Daft Punk isn't easy. I see its artistry, but it doesn't quite hit the mark for me. I gravitate more toward their recent pop-influenced collaborations. I'm giving it a 1 — not because it's bad, just not my cup of tea!

god no. and yes, i get that EDM isn't meant to be listened to on your headphones while walking, but i really don't understand what makes this any different from other EDM albums. (also, i never had any strong feelings towards EDM before this exercise, so...thanks?) DP does have a very good album in Random Access Memories, though.

A repetitive mind spinner. And I get it, as dance music, that’s kind of it’s job. Especially if you’re on drugs at the time. Might be a better listen if I had been on an E, to be honest

Album 94 of 1001 Daft Punk - Homework Rating : 1 / 5 Favorite Track : The Last One More Electronic BS. Each song was literally the same thing over and over and over again. Doesn't qualify as music.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: No, I understand its significance to the time, genre and music as a whole but that doesn’t stop from finding this very repetitive and boring. It’s a first though for letting me hear sounds that were genuinely irritating on my ears Favourite song: didn’t have one

Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World

A tech-house album with songs that are far too long is certainly something that can drive me crazy in a negative way.

I didn't know that Daft Punk has been active since 1997🤔 but I think their 90s music is too techno for me, probably one of my least favourite genres 😅

What??? Hard no for me

There is zero reason for this album to be as long as it is. Rollin and scratchin and around the world are prime examples of songs too long for no reason. If you listen to a minute and a half of around the world and stopped that would be enough, no reason for it to be nearly 7 minutes. Repetitive and boring I guess I don’t get daft punk

GO FUCK YOURSELVES

Fuuuck. So annoying. I don’t understand why people like this shit. It makes me want to pull my ears off. It’s like sitting with an annoying kid in class that keeps tapping on shit or something until you want to scream and punch him in the face.

I know these guys are talented, and that they brought dance music to a more mainstream audience. But I cannot get into this genre! Is it drugs? It’s drugs isn’t it? I need more drugs. Kraft Punk!

seems intense. I Give it one star. something about the noise of the service. It's just not the vibe for when I'm generally pretty high strung during my job anyway.

Too repetitve. I like electronic music and I'm a big fan of Tqangerine Dream, but this is electronic baby food for the ears.

I'm familiar with some of their bigger songs, but admittedly electronic music isn't really my thing. However I was really looking forward to checking their music out and giving it a chance. However I am severely disappointed. I hate hate how repetitive the robotic voice samples are, it drove me crazy. I'd rather just have the music by itself. It is their debut album, so I would still give their other discography a chance if given the opportunity. Around the World is the best song on here.

Usually like daft punk, but only their melodic pieces. Def do not like this album

Honestly, at times I found this borderline unlistenable. Around the World is not good enough to carry this album, especially at a whopping 74 minutes in length. I expected to like this, but I struggled to get through it over a period of several days to the point where it completely stymied my progress on this journey. I'd really just like to move on at this point. Standouts: Around the World, I guess?

Terrible. At first, I thought I'd give an extra point for the flow of the album, but the songs got worse and worse. It reminds me of those times trying all the sound of a cheap keyboard while playing a pre-programmed drum beat. They should have named the song "Around the Worst".

Liked the classic Around the World, but otherwise not really my thing. Nice bass on most songs, but that's about it that appealed to me.

Well, what is to be said about a set of turgid one phrase songs that presumably have some vague interest if you are off your tits on E at a club in 1999. Listening to it is one of the most painful experiences I have had in this escapade. Utter rubbish that a child can now do on Garage Band.

Not a fan!!

Not for me thanks

I like daft punk, but not this album. I know it’s their first so it’s gotta make the list, but I think the later stuff (discovery and human after all) is more creative and interesting. I’m typically not excited by electronic/loop based music, but as far as that stuff goes they are probably the best. Really found myself struggling to make it to the end of this one I truly hate anything with a house music feel (Phoenix) There are a couple quintessential daft punk moments (da funk)

This was hard to listen to. If I’m on drugs, I can see why this would be fun. But listening to this album not in a club is kinda ridiculous. Maybe for working out? Just not my cup of tea.

I did not vibe

Shit sux shit sux shit sux shit sux 1

House music is definitely not for me. I started out thinking "well, this is not my cup of tea and sounds sort of boring, but at least it doesn't sound too bad in itself, so I can have it play in the background". But it's suuuper repetitive and the longer it went on (and it goes on for way way too long), the more annoying it got for me. I made it to track 7 and then had to stop.

Has the excitement of listening to your drippy faucet go "doink, doink, doink" gotten old over time? Why not switch it up with an album by Daft Punk? Daft Punk's 'Homework' has that incessant drone-on IRRITATING BEAT MAGIC you crave. This album provides nearly TWO FULL HOURS of DULL-DOINKING paired with CRINGEWORTHY ANNOYINGNESS guaranteed to drive you nuts.

Not the best

It's probably really fun to listen to in a different setting, but just listening to it as an album front to back was unpleasant.

I'll say it... I think Daft Punk is overrated. I loved their work on the Tron soundtrack, and stuff like around the world will always be a bop. But the rest sounds like a talented kid using the DJ button on a electric keyboard to me?

Feeling a tad sheepish putting such an acclaimed album from such a beloved artist so low, but this really isn't my thing and I was actively willing it to be over by the end. I might have missed out by listening at my desk, but even if I'd been in a club, I would have probably sunk the nearest jello shot and got out of there. The singularly most exciting moment for me was when the beat kicked in over the spoken loop in "Daftendirekt" and caught me off guard. It's a shame that it was about one minute into this 74 minute album. Across the rest of it, there's a near-total absence of melody, progression and narrative to these pieces: instead, the album revolves around standard 4/4 disco-house beats with looped instrumentation and electronics fizzing in and out, with most tracks averaging 6-7 minutes in length. I just don't know why there wasn't any more regulation, or editing going on. There might have been some interesting production techniques every now and again, but it was only enough to get a passing nod before it's then recycled again... and again... and again. Yes, this is all in the nature of house music, and Daft Punk's enduring legacy has solidified "Homework" as a milestone in the genre. Personally, I just didn't get it. Listening to it felt like being a test subject in a 90s laboratory for about six months, with these daft punks trying to get me to mate with a rat. It's not going to happen guys, ALRIGHT? Jesus!

Una pesadez. Agotador.

Pretty boring

Mind numbing repetitive and boring. I hope I've listened to all these shitty electronic albums by now.

Maybe it shouldn't surprise me that dance music at the start of the 21st century was made in its politically austere and depersonalised image. Though this accrues credibility for turning up in art-house fancy dress, it's still 120 BPM as defensive posture, bodily pleasure as algorithm. Of course, the robot costumes mean such crticism can always be spun as part of the act. To that, I say spin is also so 21st century. So there. And even if that's true, such smart-arsery doesn't bring the bodily pleasures any closer to existence--at least not when listening at home.

Didn’t like

Repetitive electronica beat that I don't like, with no lyrics. Boring.

This album wasn't for me. Not my vibe at all, though Around The World is a good song but I think i like it because of nostalgia. 1/5 stars.

Very boring. Seems like more beats than melodies.

No me gusta en absoluto

Siouxsie And The Banshees deserve a lot of credit. They've come up with a truly original sound here. The standard chord progressions of rock 'n roll are nowhere to be found, replaced by an emphasis on minor seconds, tritones and overall dissonance. The rhythms are tribal and relentless, particularly Budgie's drums. McGeoch's guitars lines are serpentine or jagged, and often drenched in reverb--he develops new ideas and concepts for every song. The lyrics are disturbing and evocative. Siouxie's vocals are impassioned. The entire band gives a sustained and committed performance throughout the entire album. The energy never flags, so much so, that the overall effect is claustrophobic. And yet, despite all of the skill and passion involved, not one melody or lick or chord sequence or rhythmic sequence stuck to my brain. That's a mystery, but unfair as it might seem, I'm going to dock Juju a star for that. Even free jazz or avant-guarde classical music needs to provide a point of entry for the listener. Who knows, maybe with repeated listens, Juju would magically become more accessible to me, but at this point, I admire it more than like it.

I’m only through 10 songs but I’m calling it now. This is way too much electro pop whatever for me in a row. Not my jam.

I tried... I really did. But I don't like this stuff. EDM music is terrible and just gave me a headache.

Not interested. So repetitive

Not realy my music this album. One or two song of later albums I know and are nice to listen to when they are on the radio. I did not know they did the soundtrack of Tron the legacy, nice.

Not for me.

I'm happy for people that can enjoy this. It's not for me.

never got into this too much
