Funky. But didn’t capture my attention.
Tracks: Best To Worst 1. Maggot Brain 2. Can You Get To That 3. Wars Of Armageddon 4. Super Stupid 5. Hit It And Quit It 6. Back In Our Minds 7. You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks Final thoughts: This album is definitely high on LSD, most of the songs were all over the place, specifically the first and last. It opens with a black man telling us we fucked the Earth (figuratively and literally) and leads off into a 10 minute guitar solo which I have to say is excellent. Supposedly the guitar was told in the first half to think his mother died, then in the second half she survived, very odd. The last song is a culmination of explosions and fart noises, very odd as well. The entire album is one drug induced black trio which I enjoyed fair enough. 6/10
funk NA com jazz e soul, 2/5
Just didnt feel it. Its not bad just not for me.
I've been funked senseless after listening to this. What do you want to know?
Too much
A little too jammy, so not really my jam
Not rlly my cup of tea, it was a nice vibe tho
Wanted to give this a fair chance but just couldn't. Already not a favourite genre of mine but it felt also that half the album was just kinda a waste of time. The first track was an okay instrumental that lacked any real highlights or any that warranted it being 10 minutes long. Then followed a few rather short songs, one as unspectacular and forgettable as the other before we arrived at the closing track, Wars of Armageddon. This one should have been called Noise of Armageddon and is really a 10 minute shittake. And I don't mean the Asian mushroom! The kind of noise and sounds that are in there make you go wtf is this.and even after sitting through all of it, I still wonder what exactly the point or purpose of this was. This one did feel like a waste of 36 minutes and left me with no choice but to hand out another 2 stars
Not a fan. Of its time in the worst ways. Favorite part was the "indulgent" guitar solo to open the album.
A lot of this seemed like a jam session. One of the songs had random noises including a mooing cow.
I was excited about this .......before I listened to it, then I was inevitably disappointed. 2*
Groovy. Experimental. Insane bookend of two 10 min tracks.
Funk trifft LSD. Hatte ich mir unterhaltsamer vorgestellt.
Not a huge fan. Too funky and random
The title track is not very funky and is way too long. Tracks 2-6 are pretty good with Super Stupid being my favorite. Track 7, Wars of Armageddon is wayy too long and is not good. Especially when you get to the fart sounds around 8 minutes in. Bonus tracks are not bad with the exception of the \"Maggot Brain Alternate Mix\", which is somehow worse than the original. I had high hopes for this album, but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting.
Wasn’t really felling jt.
For me, just a bit too experimental.
It's ok.
2/5 nope!
It had a couple of good songs, but for the most part was kind of meh. 0RS
no
Would have rather it been all instrumental. The massive amount of repetitive phrases was annoying, especially the last song.
It was okay. Maggot brain was enjoyable, the rest was whatever.
the first song was not for me, some of the funky ones where ok
Super long ceebs
Feels a bit too slow and samey
A bit noisy for me
Funky town it’s was alright hey
This album is bonkers. Starts and finishes with 10 minute jams, which make up two thirds of the album time. I didn't really care for these. The 15 mins of the the middle 5 tracks is much better, particularly 'You and your folks, me and my folks' which is very Black Sabbath-esque. Just when you think it can't get weirder, the last track has cuckoo clocks, mooing cows, monkey noises & hissing cats. Overall, maybe too weird to return to, but definitely not boring!
Maggot brain was by far the best track. Wouldn’t rush to listen to the whole album again, lots of cow bells in the tracks.
Track 2- sample for Rill Rill by Sleigh Bells was a surprise, probably my favourite track also. Bit of a scattered album with more jam than a kid’s lunchbox. I think I’ve been put off long guitar solos at live gigs- Impressive, but don’t add much and can stall the vibe.
Really psychedelic, hard for me to listen through
Way too much instrumental that is too long for me to care.
Pretty good for pyscadelic/acid rock. Not normally something I'm drawn to, but this is a little more funk, so it is ok.
That was rough listening to. Lots of noises like a kid was playing instruments in the background. Would have given it a zero if I could, but maggot brain made it a 1.
Funkadelic's third album is a 36 minute hodgepodge that combines funk's repetitiveness with rock's most narcissistic tendencies, resulting in a lot of self-indulgent repetition that sounds like it was fun to make but is ultimately tedious as hell to listen to.
🥲
he tenido que mirar 4 veces a ver si faltaba mucho para que acabara, no digo más
Not really for me unfortunately.
If I was big into guitars I'd enjoy this but unfortunately I'm not and didn't.
No me ha gustado. Escuché dos canciones y lo tuve que quitar porque no es el tipo de música que me gusta escuchar necesito que cante y que no haga tantos ruidos
😵💫😵💫😵💫
no(
music to listen to while cleaning the house
Not worth the effort to write this.
Terrible! Long instrumental songs. One of the songs featured a cow mooing and farting noises. Why would anyone want to listen to that?
So painful. Glad they evolved
Didn't like any of the songs
This album is a perfect example of how adding more, doesn’t make it better. The only song I truly enjoyed was Maggot Brain. The rest was a bust and a waste of my time. Favorite Song: Maggot Brain, alternative mix - hate the title, but the guitar is good.
Rubbish
Felt like I got maggot brain listening to that
El solo de 10 minutos esta aqui con nosotros? No lo entendí. Me sorprendió el segundo track, sino era un rotundo 1 sjsjsjs. Me gusta el swing? Likes: Can you get to that - Super Stupid
I am not funkadelic
Not for me. Think I’d need to be high/tripping to enjoy this. Disappointed
very much a jam album, not really my sound
Not my vibe. Basically all instruments, didnt even finish it
Really not my taste. I truly never need to hear cow or fart noises in music. Long ass songs, too. A few catchy beats in the middle of the album, but trust I will not be back.
#45 Not cohesive and too chaotic
1. brain - 2.5 2. get - 1 3. hit - 1 4.folks -1 5. Stupid -1 6. Minds - 0 7. Wars -1
WHY?!
Just couldn't listen.
#169/1001. I tried to listen to this on my car radio, and couldn't make anything out of it. Clearly it was not produced for listening in cars. Then I listened to it on my headphones and couldn't make anything of it. And i thought I loved all p-funk.
Maggot Brain aims for cosmic soul and psychedelic freedom, but from this angle it just feels lost in its own haze. The title track’s long guitar solo sets a mood, yet the rest struggles to keep that spark alive - too spaced-out, too self-indulgent. There’s vision here, but it’s buried under excess and drift. A bold idea that never quite connects.
nicht mein Ding
Somebody or some podcast or some blog post or some article told you this was a super amazing album. You wanted to fit in and be hip or whatever so you went along and pretended to like it. Boring. 1/5 stars.
Noodly guitar doesn't really do it for me. Also a big no to funk and soul.
Annoying
Good grief. 1
Rubbish! Sound effects make it unlistenable
The iconic Maggot Brain solo. I get the cultural significance and the whole mythology behind it, but try as I might I couldn’t really get into this album. There are undeniably good rhythms and grooves. I don’t see ever feeling a strong drive to return to this record though. Cosmic Slop is more enjoyable to me
awful
1e nummer is vage zooi voor als je aan de drugs bent. Oude gitaar en drums band
Meh
I'm not sure what other people are hearing that I'm not, didn't enjoy this at all.
Bobbins.
This sounds like what I imagine an acid trip feels like.
Not my bin of questionable combined liquids
Nah no thanks
Guitar intro is good. Can definitely see the Hendrix inspiration. However it's definitely not my kind of thing. Last song, not a fan of the weird farting samples they have, but its music i suppose.
WTF
No
Meh....nope.
Talented musicians performing songs I just don’t like at all.
Uhh
This album sounds like standing in guitar center on a Saturday afternoon
That last song was just too much, rest was meh
Not much of a fan
This was a weak album! How did it make the 1001?
Already answered. Unpleasant.
BAD.
וואו זה הרגיש כאילו הכל באילתור
Absolutely bizarre
mat?
Not enough drugs in the world...
Não sei o que tentaram fazer nesse álbum, mas com certeza não foi uma boa ideia
I dislike this for the same reason I dislike The Doors...masturbatory solos that go on forever. I actually got a little angry listening to this, but maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of bed. Looking at the other ratings I'm way outside the norm on this. So be it
Not funky enough
Experimental. Evocative. Black Liberation. Annoying use of stereo.
shit
some decent stuff on here but then one track just has a bunch of fart noises on it. terrible.
Pues mira, por la falta de respeto de la última canción, un 1.
Funk und Psycadelic. Nee.
Well I listened to the whole thing. What a load of shit. Sounds like the song Ross wronte on Friends
Would need a magot in your brain to listen to much of this
Not the kind of music I prefer
This one was not at all to my taste, but I did hear lots of things that I think influenced later songs and bands that I do like. If I could give it a 1.5 I would because I suspect it was a very influential record for a lot of people.
Really didn't enjoy anything here
ni lo escuché
Can You Get to That was my favorite. The others were underwhelming
Not my cup of tea
Horrible
I’m tired of people thinking just because something is experimental it means that it’s good. You don’t get to put 9 minutes of disparate guitar sounds over empty noise and call it art. I know this because none of my dick head friends from high school ever went platinum. You could tell me a bulk of this album was the warmup they played before they recorded the actual album and I wouldn’t have blinked.
Definitely no
As uninteresting now as it was back then ...
Nope
Did not enjoy any of the songs.
After the interminable first track this became an okay album, but not my genre at all.
I found the first track to be quite annoying. The guitar went on and on like a demo or jam session which I wanted to skip numerous times but my hands were wet from doing dishes. If I didn’t have filthy pots I would have skipped it. A lot of the albums rhythm section is monotonous to the point it sounds looped and uninspired. It gave me “monkey smashing symbol” anger. I don’t think the album has aged well.
Idk. Maybe I needed to be high...
Didn’t get through the whole album. Not my style
Pochisimo
Nothing on this album justifies listening to the 10 minute wah pedal demonstration it opens with.
Did not listen. 1 star just for the name of the album. Music should appeal, not repel.
Really weird, definitely not my vibe
Wouldn’t load
So so
Mediocre. You and Your Folks was decent. Wars of Armageddon is beyond awful, especially with the fart noises. 2/10.
Jarring
Not my cup of tea.
Nah.
I am genuinely convinced that I will never understand why people like the music they do, and that the Rolling Stones throws darts to determine their best albums lists. This is fucking boring. I do not like it or see any musical appeal in it. How the fuck did people listen to dogshit like this for an entire decade? The Vietnam era of music was really a blight on mankind. But being anti-war and anti-troops is unironically based, so it’s got that going for it. Veterans do not deserve your respect. And neither does this album.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Nah it’s not my thing at all Favourite song: didn’t have one
weird.
Pues mira, por la falta de respeto de la última canción, un 1.

Norm
Except for opening title track I sense nothing more than the pain going to the dentist. 1.4
1.5
Meh - I was expecting something with serious Funk - a la Parliament or some of Earth Wind and Fire - what was presented was a mishmash of what was at times blues guitar over motown rythms, followed by 'artistic' sound doodlings. Seriously unimpressed
Not for me... I can appreciate the 'funk' though. Might have been better if I was in a different mood.
Not good
The heck was that?
Felt like a disaster of an album to me, right from track 1 (and I don’t hate funk).
As soon as that baby started wailing in the last track I switched over to Phil Collins 'oooo yeah I wish it would rain down'....on my ears and wash all this musical cack out of them. The sound of the smell of cold Brussels sprouts. Amazing what one late 80s power ballad can do!
This album just sucked. Was maybe like a funk jam album with the occasional random sounds. 2/10.
Garbage!
Went in not knowing what to expect. Did not enjoy it though I could understand others liking it
O.k. i guess
Not a super fan of experimental music
Not a fan of funkadelic. This album proved that
