Reviews (page 12 of 12)
Don't like it. Hate this guy.
Another Elvis Costello album generated and another Elvis Costello album I'll never think about again
Barf. I don’t like Elvis Costello apparently.
Did not get on well with this one. Not one song was added to my library. Will not be revisiting.
Blows chunks. 0/10
A couple decent songs; backing bass player is solid. Wanted this album to end almost immediately.
I liked only one song. Otherwise did not enjoy it. 1/5
Elvis Costello sucks so much…
Can’t stand the singer, band’s alright
booooo
Not really my vibe. Sometimes his voice reminds me of Lenny
Why are you gay
My dad after a breakup [laylist
I was expecting to hate this from the first note onward, but the first song reminded me of American pop skate punk and kept me listening for a while. Then it went to what I expected to hear from a Costello album. I'll repeat what I said for the previous one: this release is of no meaning nor value to me.
¿otro más de este pelado insufrible? No.
Elvis Costello is one of those artists that everyone says you need to like in order to be taken seriously about liking "good" music. But, when you ask anyone why you should like him the response is, "I don't know, I don't particularly like him, but that's what they say." His music is pretty middling at best. Maybe it was creative and new sounding at the time, but it's pretty bland and boring. I see that he has a lot of representation on this list, and I will be giving him 2's at most just because no moderately talented artist like him deserves that much on a list like this. Especially considering he has similar representation in number of albums as bands like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson who arguably deserve much more representation than a bland corporate rocker from the late '70's and '80's.
Not a huge fan. Kinda sounds like he’s screaming to a tune.
didnt really enjoy it, not my jam
I don't hate Elvis Costello. I just don't care about him and don't get how many love him so much. I like about 6 songs in his entire catalog. To Elvis Costello fans that sounds like I hate him. Reading the reviews, I'm happy to see that there are so, so very many people who share my opinion of him. I was pretty sure I was an outlier. I still belive the best thing about Costello is the DLR dis... "The reason that music critics love Elvis Costello so much is because music critics look like Elvis Costello"
It's meh.
I really don't like Elvis Costello, from the whiny, nasal vocals to the boring musical compositions. This is just another 1 star album that wasted my listening time I'm afraid.
Why are there so many Elvis Costello albums on this list? Not even Elvis Costello would tell you you need to listen to all his albums before you die.
Oh no There is mo Costello
Holy fucking tap dancing Jesus Christ on a pogo stick! Do all Elvis Costello songs sound the same?
Inte min grej alls, störig röst, oinspirerad musik och tråkigt sound.
Not for me. Don't like his voice. The music is interesting but not enough to get me through the album.
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst albums I've ever had the misfortune of listening to. The definition of boomer rock. Uninventive, repetitive, often dragging generic trash. His voice is just awful. Reminds of what the B-52s would sound like if they weren't talented. (I'm not sure this site is for me...)
If Elvis Costello isn't in Chelsea, I want to be there. The last ~5 minutes of this album are actually somewhat... interesting? That is the only thing that even slightly redeems this album for me, Costello's voice really grates on my ears.
This is the 7th album I’m rating. I’ve heard the name but aside from that I know nothing Elvis Costello & The Attractions. I hope it’s good. No Action - Not Adding to my Playlist. Kinda boring and I don’t like his voice. This Year’s Girl - Not Adding to my Playlist. Not a fan of that singing. The Beat - Not Adding to my Playlist. Cool beat but I don’t really like the vocals. Pump It Up - Adding to my Playlist. I don’t know what he’s saying but it’s good either way. Little Triggers - Not Adding to my Playlist. Singing isn’t great but it’s fine. You Belong to Me - Adding to my Playlist. Sounds pretty good but lyrics are a little repetitive. Hand in Hand - Not Adding to my Playlist. I don’t like those lyrics. (I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea - Not Adding to my Playlist. Chelsea can’t be that bad of a city. Lip Service - Not Adding to my Playlist. I don’t like this singing. Living in Paradise - Not Adding to my Playlist. I don’t like the lyrics. Lipstick Vogue - Not Adding to my Playlist. That singing is annoying. Night Rally - Not Adding to my Playlist. This is boring and I don’t like the singing. All in all I liked 2/12 of the songs. This kinda sucked but it wasn’t terrible or 80 minutes long.
Heard it before and don't remember liking it. Elvis Costello is just so lame to me I can't force myself to like him. I keep forgetting he's from the UK so listening to him I feel as if I'm listening to an American doing an imitation of British rock from the 70s. The vibes are just off. Allegedly the 1001 list has a bunch of his albums and I don't think I'm gonna survive this. 1/5
How many fucking Costello albums do you REALLY need to listen to before you die?! Because tbh, I’d say just one!
Thanks for this Christmas present. Now I get to listen to the Walmart version of Bruce Springsteen.
Boring and annoying... kinda like Joe Jackson but a lot less cool
No
Thank God this eventually ended... I HATE his way of singing it felt like an entire album of scubidubidubidawababa... If it was up to me, I'd never listen to another Elvis Costello song.. But this is the 3rd album on the list, so you never know..
Ugh. Boring!
If I could give this album a 0 star I would. Boring and uneventful. Sad and pathetic. Bad and worse.
Exactly what I thought it was going to be and exactly what I was avoiding. I don’t understand the appeal and it all sounds so corny to me. His voice is so hard for me to get past. The music itself seems like it could be on a commercial. I don’t know not for me I guess
Why the fuck does Elvis Costello keep appearing on “best of” lists??? He’s written maybe two decent songs and produced any number of bands into his idea of mediocrity.
Apparently every shitty not this hack committed to tape is something I must hear before I die. Well. I'll continue to mark each a single star.
More of this shit.
EC always struck me as likely an insufferable wanker in the same vein as Bono. I find his voice incredibly annoying and put on, which is hard to look past: he sounds like he's trying so hard, which gives an insincere, inauthentic impression. I did enjoy the music on the more angular punky tracks and felt i was able to look past his vocal on some: particularly the Beat. Tracks like Hand in Hand and Little Triggers are everything I find annoying about him. I think you can hear quite a lot of the pop punk that was around in our youth in this record. It's a genre that similarly suffers from try-hard whining vocalists.
Ehhh, huh. Hated this. The guy voice is awful and none of the songs have anything interesting going on. Kinda skipped my way through it.
No
trotos
Yeah not bad some odd songs though
Not really my type.
Each song was better than the one before it, if there was another album at that pace I probably would have liked it.
This album feels dated even for when it was released. Every song felt overtuned and was unappealing to listen to. Some catchy moments, but nothing in my opinion that stood out as good other than fleeting riffs. Chiefly derivative and uninspired
Every song feels so much longer than it actually is.
Again, wow, this is bad.
Elvis Costello is a curse to this generator
Never was a fan. And still not after listening to this.
Tudo me incomodou, não consegui
once again - what the fuck am I listening to
It seems like I'm not alone in hating Costello's voice. And I don't find any redeeming qualities of the music. Nothing really interesting going on here.
Alt for masse costello her
Reminds me a little bit to Fisher Z but not as good, even the hits of the album. It‘s boring.
Not my jam. Not much to bring me in. It sounds like the start of 80's synth but not in an engaging or compelling format. Meh
Can't stand him. Automatic 1
Album no. 2/1001. Not my thing! Maybe the 70s is not my decade...
not vibe
Never been a huge Elvis Costello fan. His music always seemed iterative rather than original and this album didn’t stand out for me in 1978 (I was there)
Kann mich nicht begeistern!
I'm not a fan of Costello.
The know nothing critics poster boy, elvis costello, underwhelms on this sophomore effort. I’ll be fair, I don’t want to go to Chelsea is a terrific song. But even Ed Sheeran writes good ones occasionally. In my Creedence review, I wondered how John Fogerty might have gone with a better band. It’s the opposite here. Had the Attractions been with a better songwriter and guitarist might we have got the transcendent album it seems the Thomas's and Steve Nieve had in them? Meanwhile, mogadon is available in a musical form. Just hit play here. 1.5 stars, just because I don’t wanna go to Chelsea is worth a listen. Rounded down because the album is nowhere near 'good' let alone anywhere near as good as it thinks it is.
This was a pretty boring album. There weren't any horribly offensive songs, but there also wasn't a single song that stood out. While thinking back on the album, there honestly isn't a single song that I can remember, it was all so forgettable.
Super annoying
Well that what a waste of my time All the songs feel like an 80s/90s movie that needs to fill minutes and they play a mix of idiotic scenes (washing the car, making breakfast and the toast falling on the floor, that kind of shit)
Very boring. Dislike the genre
surely this is a joke
Couldn't finish it, great instrumentation and he has a good voice. Just for me it's a really annoying voice.
I don't care for it, and I won't respond to it.
meh not my style
I mean technically this is fine I guess. It's cohesive enough, but then, what would you expect from the 1,001 albums list? Elvis Costello doesn't hold back vocally or anything, and I guess some of his lyrics are kind of clever. But I just found him very pretentious and the whole thing super cheesy. Costello reckons he's an alpha or something. I liked "Radio Radio," though, which I was disappointed to find out wasn't even on the original release. A good commentary on media censorship, although the hook at the end went on too long and got on my nerves, just like every other hook on this album. It kind of weakened the message just a little for me. My first 1 star. I almost gave it 2 for "Radio Radio," but decided that wouldn't be fair as even that one good song couldn't make me enjoy the album as much as I enjoyed the other albums I've rated 2 stars. Favourite track: Radio Radio
My espectation were not very high for this album, i have to admitted that it suprise me, "Pump it up" really worth the listening, no action is allright, this years girl is good and the rest of the songs are mid in my opinion. Its a very new wavy kind off album, a bit more "groovy" and more pop than other bands a the same times (Pretenders, Clash, Blondie ect), but still with punk rock et pop rock influences and i respect that. anyway i guess it deserve its place here, but i'm not sure its reallty the masterpiece critics have describe it.
Alt for masse costello her
not a fan of his voice :(
Wow, I actively dislike his singing voice.
Ugh. Just no. This is a bad album, and should not be on any list of good albums. 1/5
ass
If someone could let the the developer know that there should be a .5 star option, that would be great.
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
Boring
I legitimately had a hard time not turning this off. First song that wasn't horrible was (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea. Alright I had this on random. Maybe it just played the worst songs first. The Beat wasn't so bad.
Not happy to be seeing another Costello on this list. Not happy that this is our Monday album. At least it's out of the way already... It's all up from here!
Ik heb echt precies niks met Elvis Costello. Geprobeerd te luisteren tijdens werk voor stage, maar zijn stem in mijn oren bezorgt mij kippenvel (en nee niet the good kind).
Echt onluisterbaar. Besef deze man staat er zes keer in
There's an hour of my life I'll never get back. Pure drivel of samey flat toned whining. The only track I could tolerate was Pump it Up, but that was only because I knew it better when Ozzy band Rogue Traders sampled it on their track Voodoo Child.
Sanantoisto poppia
plz stop w the elvis
Rob Schneider is… a carrot
Idk why i hate this
elvis chante comme une tantouze contrariée
i don't get the appeal
meh
Highlights: Artwork: 6,5 / 10 Rating: 1,5 / 10
I can't.
Solidly not my kind of music. Simple and repetitive melodies, off tune singing, a perpetual rushing feeling. Maybe in a 1980s dance hall this would hit, but not on my speakers in 2020s. Highlights: Pump it Up, Little Triggers
I did not enjoy this album primarily due to the singer's voice. I liked the backing track to most of the songs, but the voice made the songs so off putting that I wanted to skip most of them. Favorite Track: The Beat
Yeah it's pretty cool and all to hear proto ska, but I cannot stand Elvis' voice. I enjoy the organ/keys that come in all the time, but there's not a whole lot to enjoy about this album other than it exists. Highlights: 1, and 4.
not my thing
Not excited by this Elvis. He would be a hit at a prom or bar but nothing struck a chord in me . Sorry Costello 😔 the other Elvis wins by a long shot
Similar to Kill the Young. Most songs sound too same and too up-beat
Eh not feeling it
Eh, this just didn’t do anything for me.
meh
Is this the original prep music?
