Reviews (page 8 of 8)
This combines some funk and the Rolling Stones...and the bad parts of each. Pass.
Disappointed when I saw the album cover, but I gave it a chance. After listening it's clear that it's just more crap undeserving of this list. Clearly chosen because of the British bias of the list-makers. First track was fine. The rest was annoying garbage.
Second Listen. Gave it 1/5 first time. The one song I liked was "Damaged". A couple of the songs are really annoying (Don't Fight It, Feel It), but there are a couple of good songs: Damaged. Loaded. Movin' On Up. Shine Like Stars. I definitely enjoyed it more this time, but still just 2/5 2/5
This has some nice moments that sort of waft in and out throughout the album but mostly it just sounds dated in an awkward way to me. If you give it enough time I'm sure it'll come back into vogue aesthetically at some point. One thing that will always hold it back though, like any good CD era album, is that it drags on a few songs too long.
Oof, this is 90s as hell... in a bad way. So sugar-coated, so summer. I can't listen anymore. It's competent in what it is doing, but that's my problem with it. 1.5 to 2.
boring, slow, long, no point in it
No, this did not work for me at all. Thanks to Andrew Weatherall's input it has some good moments, but that does not make up for the rest. Particularly disliked the rather whining vocals which ruined many of the songs.
*blowingraspberries 2.2
Not my favorite
I’ve tried to get into this album many times before. Some real nice tracks in there but it just doesn’t punch into me in the way so many claim it should. Let this be the last time I ever attempt to like Primal Scream. Heard it here first world.
A rock band tries to make an EDM album. It’s not completely unlistenable.
Every single track is too long. Not my jam.
This was very polarizing for me. I really liked a couple of tracks and really didn't like the rest.
2.5 stars
better than I expected but still pretty meh. its pop/instumentals as opposed to like metal 2.5
It doesn't sound bad and is totally fine for background music. But I find it absolutely uninteresting. Just goes in one ear, comes out the other, nothing remains of it in my mind.
opener is instantly recognizable I can hear the drugs clearer than the future influence to daft punk and others 2 - not for me but doesn't hurt my ears. 3 - decent, could stick on again 2 today but could be a 3 tomorrow
I don't think I've listened too or thought that much about these guys since the 1990s. They did put together a pretty nice formula, with bits of house, trance, but also funk and psychedelic sounds, very catchy stuff over all. Somehow I also think of Jesus Jones when listening to them - the edge between rock/pop and electronic music seems a bit blurred with both of them. Overall, it's fun to revisit this and it could be an interesting surprise to have a track come on at a party or something, but not really something I want to listen to a whole album of, and not something I'd consider really essential listening.
Pretty eh. The first song brought me in, but from there each song becomes less distinct, and less enjoyable.
Find ich keinen Zugang. Und für LSD hab ich keine Zeit…
Olvidable.
Not a huge fan of this house music style, pretty repetitive. Definitely not what I was expecting at all. Do like the cover, however
4. First song was pretty good, but really nothing to write home about after that, and it was quite long.
Un po' troppo elettrico...
meh im not really into house. dear god this is aggressively 90s. Come Together aggressively wears out its welcome after about minute 5. Damaged has the worst vocalist ever. guy isnt even close to in tune. These songs are forever long, especially if there isnt something that grabs you. totally over self indulgent in its sound. jesus thank god thats over
Only listened to a couple songs... Its fine
In fairness to the album, not all of the songs were available for streaming. Despite that, I wasn’t a huge fan of the material. Some decent music but overall not my cup of tea.
- i listened to this last summer mowing the lawn, and like it a lot - "inner flight" could go - there are some really great songs and some really boring ones ("i'm coming down") - straight up skipped through the last two songs - just listen to like the first 2 or 3 and then that can be it.
club music
ouvir com mais afinco depois...
weird sound, interesting but not very catchy and hard to get into
Lots of sounds different instruments used, very early 90s sounding. Album peaked the first song which is a great track. Others following were just ok some a little annoying
Some cool tunes with the horns
Wasn't a fan of these back in the day and I'm still not sure about them.
The album does a good job of presenting itself as it lives: a drug-fueled haze. Initial impression was "bad U2 rip-off", but after the first song I was more into it. But it's pretty repetitive (by design, I imagine), and I'm just not the right person to completely enjoy this. If I was high and felt like dancing, I'd be all about it.. Favorite track: "Don't Fight It, Feel It"
I - I thought there would be more screaming. I don't like it and I'm not looking forward to the next hour. Finishing each song feels like an achievement. I audibly groaned when I saw the next one had ten minutes. Every time you think surely, surely it's nearly done it just keeps going, the same damn thing again this is exhausting. Maybe I just have no taste, and honestly I'm fine with that. Damaged was more tolerable than the rest. Thats over with and thank god.
Way too long
It was a very dreamy and unfamiliar song. I don't think it's my style. It wasn't as easy to listen to as I thought.
Just awful. Overlong, uninteresting hippie jams and remixes that go on and on and don't go anywhere. Had to force myself to even finish it once.
1 - not for me
Too psychedelic for me
Honestly hated it. Managed 4 overlong tracks before I gave up. How this band later did a banger like Country Girl I have no idea.
Gear: Grado Hemp Artwork: 🌞👀🖍️ Production: 🎧🤨🆗 Music: \(”˚☐˚)/ Rating: 😱/5
p674. 1991. 1 star. Starts of with an absolute banger and then descends rapidly into dodgy early 90s synth wankage and multiple 6+ minutes tracks, including a 10+ minute monstrosity. It's like punk never happened. Hugely disappointing.
this was so bad

I guess I can see why it was influential but dnf
Rubbish
Not for me. 1/5
Nice album
Thais album was not what I expected! However, it wasn’t really my style.
I gave up by track 6. Some of the most boring music I've ever listened to
5 albums to go! ...*opens Suno AI. Uses "boring garbage" as reference. Generates more interesting music than this*
Literally only 2 listenable songs
When they go piano heavy, they remind me of George Michael. And that's the best of their stuff. Way too many long instrumentals where nothing changes and nothing happens. Why does a band called Primal Scream make such milquetoast music?
Worse than hitler. Minus five stars
Yeah this just sounded exactly like the album I got yesterday but in a major key instead of a minor key. It’s so embarrassing that British club kid music sounded like stuff you’d hear in the sweater section of H&M.
Its that part of the 90's that didn't let go of the 80's
Too repetitive for me.
Nothing was what I expected. Then each song was weirder than the last.
This subhuman garbage possesses the world's most punchable face. I'd rather listen to a proper Andrew Weatherall album.
There are some possibly decent songs hiding under all the EDM crap. Did they ever make a version without it? Nope... oh well, <plonk> I was going to give it a generous 2/5 but actually, I'll take another one off for loss of potential. I hate this. 1/5.
Found it incredibly dull
Not really my music, for me it was to repetitive in the long tracks
Nothing that I’d be compelled to return to. A lot of the UK albums that UK publications and critics seem to think are groundbreaking and artistically impressive are some of the most boring pretentious crap I’ve ever heard.
Just because this has the occasional guitar riff doesn't mean it's not shitty 90s club music. What a waste of an objectively badass band name.
Not sure. Not enjoyable
First track good, rest of it sounded like piped music in a bowling alley
I hate this album lol
A couple decent songs, like the opening track and “Damaged”, but the rest just feel like half-finished concepts over shitty drum loops.
I'd only heard the song "Rocks" by the band before, and this album is far away from that song. Except for the Mick Jagger influenced vocals that appear throughout. The songs are super long and super repetitive and I hated every second of it.
made my mind go numb
What a trash album. Every song was boring and went on for like 6 minutes.
Bleh, it's boring and honestly kinda grating to listen to.
Kann ich nichts damit anfangen! Mist!
Mye rart
Meh
1 song. One
It was good while I was pulling out the weeds. When I was done I rated the album a 1.
the only thing I like is the album cover 'nough said
I thought this was going to be a bad Rolling Stones wanna-be, but then it switched to extremely repetitive spacey party music and back. The first song was half decent, but that’s it. Not the worst 1/5 I’ve given, but still bored me to tears.
I don’t know anything about Primal Scream. But, given the name of the band, I did not expect this. I expected, well, screaming. I’m glad that’s not what I heard. However, I still didn’t like the album.
This felt like background music to a video you'd find on Youtube while tripping or something. 2/10
I like the first song, Movin’ On Up, on Primal Scream’s album Screamadelica. Nothing else. This is a 1 rating. 1/5
How can a band named Primal Scream release an album named Screamadelica, and not include any screaming? This was disappointingly tame, even with a mashup of genres. Honestly, some of the songs were alright, but nothing grabbed my attention and the neo-psychedelic parts were kind of underwhelming.
This started off with a kind of fun pop anthem. It then devolved into a lot of shitty acid house inflected Brit Pop. Boooooooo!
Nope, not for me. Couldn't get through it. Boring
I’m so good on this.
Not worth listening to. Some of the instrument choices were interesting/cool. The musicianship wasn't very good, and I didn't like the singer's voice. The instrumental parts made for interesting background music, but that's about all the album really had to offer. Favorite Song(s): Movin' On Up, Loaded
no
A band named primal scream that isn’t punk? This is just generic 90s garbage techno.
I fucking hated this album. WTF? Psychedelic, dance, ambient, happy bullshit. Movin on up! Couldn’t be further down my list!
I tried listening to this album three different times, because I wanted to give it a fair shake and thought maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it. Three days, three tries, zero listens. Whatever it is that is in this album, I can’t say, all I can say is it bounces off me entirely and this is the first album I didn’t complete
The closest I got to Rave music was raiding warehouses and even moorlands in the Constabularies pursuit of illegal gatherings and all the associated naughtiness. I wasn’t therefore very popular amongst the Rave community. I therefore cannot condone anything to do with the Rave scene even if I found this album remotely good or entertaining - which I don’t. Well aware that I am a hypocrite as most of the music I like has drug connections but at least the music is good to my dope free ears. 1/5 15/6/24
fuck i hate this
Second (and hopefully last) album by this band, and it's exactly the same as the first one I got. The first song is pleasant, but by no means amazing. After that, the first few seconds of every single song try to entice you with a nice guitar riff or something, and slowly devolves into annoying, repetitive, meaningless shit.
Mostly this is a pile of shit
The music style isn’t for me.
Their micro genre got lost in time, and I don’t want to be taken back
Sort of psychedelic and made me think of the Dead. I rather hated it.
First track was cool but really just felt like musical ADD to me. Production is a bit all over the place for me.
Didn't particularly enjoy any track. Overdone electronics. Couldn't see myself listening to this again, so it's a straight 1 out of 5
I don't care if they influenced a whole genre; this album is boring. And if they used to be a regular psychedelic rock band, why would their cover of "Slip Inside This House" sound like this?
Started as just boring and then got worse. Ended up being too painful to listen to. Got through most of it but couldn’t finish. This is NOT the kind of band who can pull off a 6-7 minute song. Sorry, I just don’t get it.
Great opening track but couldn’t finish it
Not available on Apple Music
Movin on Up and Loaded both simultaneously sound like Freedom '90 by Micheal Bolton. Bolton came out a year before this, so not saying stolen, but come on. If that's the "best" or what people listen to this album for, it doesn't bode well for the remainder which in my opinion blows.
Not for me!
First listen Saved 2/11 Top track: Movin' on Up
I struggled with this one. I don’t think it had much to offer other than the two big singles, and one of them reminded me of the theme from The One Show. The rest of the album sounds like someone pissing about on a Casio keyboard. I hated it.
I hated the other Primal Scream album and I feel the same way about this one. Please, no more Primal Scream.
I was feeling fairly optimistic after the first song... all downhill from there. Not into this at all.
Fuck this band 1/5
Did not enjoy. Album dragged for eternity. Felt like a playlist rather than an album. Not a well thought out playlist though. Band covered 10 genres in 11 songs
'Come Together' begins a sample of Jesse Jackson's speech from the WattStax concert of 1972. On this album is sounds like a simple exhortation of unity. In reality, it was a call specifically around Black unity and Black consciousness. But of course, all that tricky political stuff is entirely denuded by Primal Scream. I feel that this example sums up this unsatisfying melange of meandering soundscapes and signifiers so divorced from their sources that they float away into nothingness. Highly satisfactory, utterly boring and shorn of any context, revolutionary or otherwise. Fuck this noise.
I got about three songs in and Apple Music stopped working completely and has yet to recover, even after signing out of my account and signing back in. It does not want me to listen to this album. As such, I think the universe is trying to tell me something. To which I say to the universe: fucking THANK YOU! Because those three songs were not good. Unfortunately, I did want to copy and past the blurb about this album that's on Apple Music, but won't be able to word for word. But it was freaking hysterical. Literally used the words "blew the minds of a collective generation" in some form or another. Hahaha! I don't know a soul from ANY generation who has ever said a word about this album. Except the author of this list.
This is so irrelevant. It makes you wish samplers never existed. A boring collection of one-bar loops and ugly synth sounds in a frivolous neo-hippie pseudo psychedelic revival
Dreadful. Lots of people liked this at the time, but they were mostly on drugs, which is really the only way to get through this tedium.
-7/10. The worst album in the history of music. If I could give it less stars I would
The best thing I can say is boring and indulgent.
This represents everything that I hate of the 90s. Can't believe I tormented myself with this one.
nope
Too long
First Listen. Nothing special here. One good song. One. The rest seemed just blah to me. I'll give it another chance someday but for now, 1/5
Album art: 1
A mix of techno and almost world music. Honestly just waited for the album to end
no into this album
Its just not my jam.
Shite.
Not a fan!!
Shit. Only giving it 1 because Booby Gillespie would yell at me for not rating
terrible
dated and boring
HATE THIS ALBUM. There were one or two songs that were solid, but most were torturous.
I liked some of it sometimes...but overall it was kind of everywhere, interesting to listen to but not very enjoyable
ccc
90s rock??? kinda boring... weird sound...
