Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Mega XPN-core album. Sounds like if Cold War Kids were psych-rocky, folky, grateful-deady. Great instrumentation, but kinda bland tbh

Listened to it yesterday and honestly can’t remember. I think the first song was cool and the rest just ok.

Hey ma! Someone got shitty prog rock and jazz chords in my garage rock.

I enjoyed the final track so an otherwise dire album scrapes a 2.

This album is great if you are really happy and don’t want to be.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Street Joy (4) 2 - Back at the Farm (3) 3 - Drug (7)

Nothing special I found

What if a kings of Leon knock off was also a jam band

It was just kind of boring. Not my favorite genre

Why are there so many albums on this list described as 'psychedelic'? Is it because men don't crowd together into one bed at a sleepover and discuss thoughts and ideas about the universe, so it's not until they drop acid at age 25 that they discover the idea of sonder? That all seven billion people on this planet have their own unique thoughts and feelings influenced by the things they experience throughout their lives? Does the reverb added to an overly-long guitar riff remind a person who lives like this of the concept that they are not alone in the universe and are, in fact, but a small speck in the massive ocean of life? Is that why?

Sehr ruhig….

Meget kedeligt synes jeg. Lyden af start 10'er skovmandsskjorter og fuldskæg. Et par fine nok momenter ind i mellem

I don’t understand bands in the 21st century who seem to be attempting to sound like 1960’s bands. That stuff has been done, well. Imitation may be flattery but it isn’t going to make for great new music. It would have been a three star album in 1969, but I’m taking off a star for its lack of originality or ambition to move things forward.

Strange album from a band I wasn't familiar with. Kind of a mash up between jam and psychedelia. Not my jam though...1.5/5

Até que o instrumental despertou o meu interesse pelo som da banda, mas não deve ser suficiente para escutar mais.

I could hear the influences of other musicians, which I enjoyed. The music did not hold my attention. I lost interest. The singing didn't add much to the performance.

I have to say that while it is a good album, I didn’t find anything particularly original or inspiring about it.

Okay, kinda forgettable - street joy is always good

Fine but not for me

Initially I thought this just sounds like 2011 distilled into 37 minutes but by the time I got to Street Joy, it had reeled me back in. Then it lost me again and suddenly it felt much longer than 37 minutes. It felt like I always had another track to get through.

It's like they took the least interesting song off of each King Gizzard album and put them all together. Has some cool moments (mostly near the end), but like, whatever, dude. Just like the album cover, it's kind of an unremarkable mess.

a bit dreary for me

I don't remember much about it

I listened to it but I can’t remember much. Which means it at least wasn’t too bad, just not my thing.

Is ok, aber gehört eigentlich nicht in diese Liste 2-3

I think I just really don’t like psychedelic prog rock. This is just lost on me. Clearly it’s well made for what it is. But I’m gonna stab a bitch if I have to keep listening. 2/5

Completely forgettable. I don't remember a single song.

A couple of songs grabbed me but a bit too much jam band noodling for me.

Pretty meh. Nothing on here really stands out.

Con tutto il rispetto, non uno dei 1001 album che devo ascoltare prima di morire. Non il mio genere.

These guys are great musicians, but this is just too proggy for me. It’s like Allman Brothers made by engineers. Still, not going to give this my 1 star kiss of death, as I can tell that this band is very good, just not for me.

Not Bad for a retro album from 2011 but why exactly is this part of the list?!

Intriguing sound and instrumentation but the prog-rock, jam band elements and vocals eventually grated. Actually had trouble placing this music in time before I'd seen the album release date.

Not really my thing. I acknowledge there was this big neo-psychedlic rock movement going on, but I don't like the original stuff and this is no better. Entirely forgettable when placed beside its peers.

I think I just really don’t like psychedelic prog rock. This is just lost on me. Clearly it’s well made for what it is. But I’m gonna stab a bitch if I have to keep listening.

bleh easy listening

A fairly banal indie entry with fairly forgettable music.

Meh meh. Two mehs.

Not bad, but I couldn’t listen to the whole thing.

It sounded like the Dead, and that was bad. Other than that (or maybe because of that), it was completely forgettable.

Not bad but idk what its purpose is

Eh, nothing special

Known Before: Standouts:

One of many albums here that aren’t too bad, but don’t belong in such a list either. I guess most readers of the original book had a hard time noticing this, but in the age of streaming the king’s nakedness is repeatedly exposed…

I am dreading listening to this. An album from 2011 that’s not something I heard then, the love of pretentious comedy optics and Dimerys knack for picking irrelevance and mediocrity doesn’t bode well. Not just mediocrity but derivation. The first few tracks sound like something the Beatles would have given away rather than take up space on one of their albums. And then watched it flop. Track 4 sounds like they said ‘hey let’s write a pink Floyd song’ having heard dark side of the moon precisely once and were aware of ‘another brick in the wall.’ The rest of the album meanders in trying to find an original voice. And never managing it. I don’t like psychedelic music so that’s part of it. But I also suspect that if this had been released between 1967-1973 I might have been more tolerant of it. It’s not awful. But I’d rather listen to a whole slew of other stuff from the early 2010s. 1.5

I had never heard of this band or any of these songs. I am not sure what to make of it. I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. It is just meh.

Not my thing

I just did not click with this one.

Imagine it’s in the 2010s and you want to pick the best album to represent the decade. You pick D by white denim.

The music is musical, but kind of boring. 2/5

songwriting didn’t stick out. production was glossy but it was also kind of over stimulating. this carried the illusion of being good but i don’t think it really was.

Fairly unremarkable. Some songs felt intentionally underwhelming.

oof. 2 star album so far.

kind of like "the tea party" but worse at the farm river to consider bess st

not my usual kind of music

Not for me

Empieza bien y hasta ahi

Pretty underwhelmed, some so so indie rock and then psychedelic noodles. Not my thing.

I dont know

Meh on this album but one song heard outside of the album was good. Still, not good enough against a lot of other music.

It's okay I guess. got like 4 tracks in driving to a friends house.

Didn't stand out for me at all

Very meh, 1 maybe 2 good songs on here that I enjoyed

Got a song or two on here that I really enjoyed. The rest was just okay

Cool band. Album was interesting when it first came out. Street Joy is a 2010s jam. I wouldn’t say this belongs on any list of this nature though.

4/10. Losing an extra point for being the second boring album I've listened to today, and because there are definitely cooler albums from the 2010s

a little too “jam band-ish” for me. not a fan.

Mitään ei erityisesti jääny mieleen. Melko basic

Not a fan.

This is a catseye album. In that it is absolutely middle of the road.

grateful dead 2.0, no thanks

Meh. Forgettable.

it was fine

Indie, proggy kinda vibes. Obviously technically cool, but not really my thing, nothing stood out, probably a 2

Taas kahden vaiheilla, onko kolmosen arvoinen. Sanoisin, että ei ihan, koska on liian tasapaksu. Toisella kuuntelukerralla löytää varmasti kerroksia. Tykkään junnailusta kyllä

eh it was fine?

I’m not giving it a 1 because there’s nothing specifically wrong with it, but I don’t remember anything about this album. I just didn’t notice anything about this album.

Didnt even register

Well that happened without even registering for me

Yet another band I'd never heard of. Yet another album I didn't really need to listen to before I die. It's alright, just didn't engage me in any meaningful way.

Incredibly boring.

too compressed, fatiguing..

Waste of time

fav songs: street joy dull, boring, exhausting 10/100

Weird!

D indeed!

I don't think I'll ever be in the mood for this.

#114/1001 🇺🇸 I'm struggling to see the relevance of this band, sorry. I mean they are very competent musicians, but I think that they are just a bit too aware of that. Its probably a bit too polished for my liking and whilst its not a long record it just seems to go on a bit. I was expecting a more garage rock sound but its just not gritty enough for me. All the jazz rock tempo chamges just grate on me. Normally i'd skip but i'm 114 albums in and am not going to do it now. Best Tracks: Street Joy.

mühsames gedudel, geschrammel und dann noch gesang.

Tönt nach 70er at its best. Unerträglich.

Horseshit

boring

There are harmonised triplets on that Born Ruffians record. There are Highlife guitars on the Vampire Weekend albums. And there’s plenty more of the same on records by actual Highlife musicians. There are compound time signatures all around us! There is really no reason to go to White Denim for any of the music they make on D. But if you’re short on time or money, there’s no harm in carbo-loading it all here, I guess. 1.5 Slightly unexpectedly, I hated this. I went back to it several times. Come on, I thought, nifty players energetically counting to 5 every so often with the satisfying crunch of multiple lightly distorted electric guitar everywhere, this is right up my alley. No. It’s vacuous, posing bullshit is what it is. The main problem is the top line. These aren’t real melodies - they are just a veneer to give the impression that a song is being performed when what everyone here is really interested in is the splicing together of hypnotically busy loops. The razzle dazzle of mixed time signatures is all well and good but melody should be the main event, not a sideshow. The lyrics - once you’ve looked them up, for they are indecipherable in the mix - are nothing at all. For technical musical achievement this lot are well worth their Rock School Grade 7 certificates. Who goes home and listens to the exam book CD afterwards though? 1/5

Derivative shite

Utterly forgettable. To my ears this is indistinguishable from any of the number of early 2010’s folk pop revival acts. Maybe there’s something more interesting in the composition of these songs to set White Denim apart from those acts - some of sound experimentations for example. I’m just not able to discern anything ‘moving’ or ‘bold’ from the overall package.

Not for me. 1/5

Not for me.

I seriously question how this band got on this list. I've never heard of them...maybe they're only knowni in Texas? Dreadful jamming. They don't know if they want to be psychedic or a jam band a la The Dead. Really boring anyway.

A great effort for five high school kids figuring out their tools and trying to be creative. Will make you sit in a dark room and fight away the sadness when you realize that are adults.

1. him - 0 2. burnizhed - 0 3. farm - 1 4. joy - 1.5 5. anvil - 1 6. river - 1 7. drug - 0 8. bezz - 0 9. iz - 1 10. keyz - 1

I have never heard of this band or the album. When I listened to it, I realized why. The band and the music are not worth hearing. This applies primarily to me, of course. If that's your music, so be it

Too boring for me.

I tried.

Never heard of this before. I'm excited... Nah, not my cup of tea. Was hoping this was some cool 70's music looking at the album cover but really its just boring, uninspiring mush.

So bland I didn't even realise it had finished.

Kinda jammy and not my jam. They do have a Kenny Rogers cover that I kinda like....but it ain't on this album

Nothing special 2 me, also didn’t give it a full listen sue me!

Überhaupt nicht mein Ding.

klingt für meine Ohren zu experimentell - ähnlich zu Bowie

Much like a vegan Thanksgiving dinner, where loads of effort has gone into creating something appetising, I’m hoping that the pizza place is open because I’m still hungry.

Overrated. Might listen to back catalogue. 2/10

Not my cup of tea. Not quite sure what the appeal is for a 1001 list.

Never heard of them before. Honestly completely lost on me why this is on the list. Music for ‘musos’ and the like who feel the need to stand at the back of gigs so they can analyse everything, instead of actually having fun. My ex would probably love it

Absolutely hated this. I *really* did not want to give this a 1. I was looking for any redeeming factor, but I just could not find anything. There's nothing special here, nothing for me. Just simply did not like.

Found this really boring, had no effect on me whatsoever and the next day i can’t remember it at all.

Kun pitää jatkuvasti olla vähän "erilainen" ja muita fiksumpi. Sinänsä ymmärrettävää, erityisesti vuonna 2011, mutta tämä levy ei ansaitse kokonaista kuuntelua.
