a struggle. i knew it would be a struggle, and a struggle it was

Keep this man FAR away from me dog what in the world was that.

concept wise its cool and there are also some nice beats but overall doesnt work that well imo

Didn't vibe with this one. I didn't find the production very interesting.

Peepee Doodoo! The doctor is waiting for you.

Never listened to this before, but I did know Dr. Dooom from the same Kool Keith. With a talented and open-minded producer like Dan the Automator who’s worked with everyone from Gorillaz to Mike Patton, RZA or the Black Keys, I was at least expecting something original and off the beaten path. And yep, this is definitely the opposite of commercial rap. I’m really into this psychedelic, jazzy production. That said, even though there are some real gems in there, it’s a bit long, uneven, and not always the easiest to get into. Also, Kool Keith’s flow often feels a little too dated for my taste.

Great beats. If only everything else was as good

as the album's name suggests, this is a blend of juvenile mindset with some good beats. I saw there was an instrumental version of this album--that was probably pretty good.

At one hand, it has some decent beats, while on the other, the rapping technique of just spewing out stuff with no flow or anything decks it down a few notches. Ehh... ⭐⭐

Rare miss from Automator.

Dr. Octagon, a homicidal, extraterrestrial, time-traveling gynecologist and surgeon...interesting concept, can't say I've heard anything like this, which is mainly a strange, creepy scenario excuse for a rap/hip hop album. I'll admit the beats and music are listenable, but if you focus on what Dr. Octagon is saying, this would appeal to the childish, immature, disturbed audience this is must be directed at. The weird thing is I didn't hate it as much as I should. Really though, have you ever heard "rectum" used so often on an album? Hey, it's okay he's a "doctor".

3/10 - None of the songs I liked and some of them made me quite uncomfortable. It was just not very good and I was anxiously waiting for it to end

Copernicus mentioned

The beats are fun, rhymes/flow are cool, but the lyrics and content are way too fucking lewd for me. Go figure that an album with a name like this would be childish veering toward downright abusive.

Don't mean to sound like a prude, but this is pretty sophomoric. It's nice Mr. Octagon is having fun. Some of the skits made me laugh.

Just was not at any point interested. Sorry, couldn’t get into it. On top of that too long! 2/5

not for me

2 - pretty terrible but it gets a point for its absurdity

Väldigt långt album, med massa peepee poopoo juttun. Helt bra hiphop nu och då

Fav: Bear Witness Least Fav: A Visit To The Gynecologyst Liked the beats, but an hour of the rapping really brought it down for me

It was fine

Weird, fun – out there in a way that stops it ever fully coming in here. Thanks, Dr.

sometimes we can just leave things in their era

idk man

"Operation: Doomsday" from Wish

No estuvo taaan mal, aunque las letras son bastante adolescentes.

Чёт хз

In theory this should be up my street: cartoonish, high concept alternative rap with production from Dan the Automator, whose work with Deltron 3030 and Gorillaz I really enjoyed. Unfortunately in practice I found it quite dull and repetitive.

Did not fuck wit the moaning in the intro

-1 for the creepy gynecologist song.

Uiii das zieht sich ja aber fast gar nicht 😵‍💫😵‍💫 Wenigstens mal wieder beats

I like that this is a concept album (weird concept though) and it sounds OK. It does get a bit boring though. If hip-hop was my thing I'd certainly give it a 3 or 4 because I hear it has a certain quality. But I just don't enjoy it, it lack the rhythm and raw energy of rap albums I like more.

chill, catchy but cringe

Feeling like Emma Stone when Ryan Gosling makes her a drink in Crazy Stupid Love where she chugs hers and says and it’s not her favorite and then chugs his.

This is a weird one to rate. The atmospheric part of the music is interesting, but the actual beats all are pretty basic. The lyrics are both more complex and more juvenile than I expected. I got about 5 songs in before I started considering skipping songs. I'd probably give it a 2 just because I can tell a lot went into it but it also just isn't very good.

Is sometimes ok but overall it's kinda cringe Will I listen to again: 0%

I like the beats. This would be better if it was all instrumental.

I appreciate the absurdism but this wasn’t really for me

Boring, too long, forgettable. Please no more hour-plus albums with the same beat and shitty lyrics

the fact there are at least 2 rap albums in this project (see also: Sex Packets) that are full-on scifi concept albums about having depraved nerd sex with women is honestly beyond belief

28/12/24 I really wanted to hate this album, I just couldn't!

Interesting concept

The beats are decent but not a big fan of this overall. Immature concept and weird, juvenile lyrics. Half of the time I don't understand what he's going on about, and the other half seems to be related to rectums, doo-doo, rape or genitals. Honestly some of the lyrics read like a 12 year old wrote them Production just about raises it above 1*

its provocative and on some parts entertaining. But i don't understand how this album stole a place in this list from so many better rap albums...

I really couldn't get into this at all

Undeniably influential, but not really my thing. The distracting soundtrack of the sketchiest basement you've ever hung out in.

I have no idea who this is, and I'm not much of a fan of "spoken-word" rap, if you get what I mean. As I listened I got the impression they wanted to sound like KRS-One or Rakim or something, profound lyrics, solid beats, etc. but Dr. Octagon misses the mark, its also just weirdly immature in places, other artists do this better.

p774. 1996. 2 stars. Rap, so wrong audience. It's also a surreal, vulgar and frequently funny mix of porn, B-movie audio tracks and sci-fi geekiness. Weird. Not sure I'll listen to it again, but I'm glad I did.

I like Ultramagnetic MC's a lot, but not so much into Kool Keiths solo work. Don't really care for the themes of the songs here and the album drags on for way too long. The few bars that do stick out are just bizarre. I do like the classical touches throughout however.

He raps like he is reading a chemistry textbook. Lots and lots of metaphors. Very 90s beats with so many record scratches. I got to the skit where a “man” (don’t know if that was supposed to be Dr. Octagon) impersonates a gynecologist and proceeds to sexually assault a woman and I just had to tap out. It was very ok for what I listened to but once again not something I think I needed to listen to before I die. 3/10

Not a genre I regularly listen to, and therefore don't know much of its history. Which means I didn't know prior any historical merit of the album. A lot of the beats felt similar, almost to point of being repeated. Lyrics did nothing for me. Towards the end of the album I think I started to hear some influential qualities

"Dr. Octagonecologyst introduces the character of Dr. Octagon, a homicidal, extraterrestrial, time-traveling gynecologist and surgeon" so you know we're getting low level porno skits and a rough theme thats held together by hopes and dreams. In reality its shit level hip hop, even with Dan The Automator at the desk

The music was interesting in a way, but my god was that hard to listen to. 2.0 stars

Such interesting beats/samples but the rapping itself is just terrible

This record has some really cool beats; Which is a shame, because I hate the themes and most of the “lyrical content” on it. I like the alien-like persona he goes with on some tracks as well as his attempt to rap about science, but most of the lyrics are dribble and utter nonsense. Dude tends to just talk, spit juvenile bars, or repeat some of the world’s most un-catchiest hooks. And now I’m gonna have to call HR after hearing what this dude was rapping about. Favorite track: Real Raw

(After 20 minutes) I’m not doing this. The beats are generic, the delivery laconic, and the lyrics are really playground puerile. I don’t see the point in whacking my head against a brick wall for another 44 minutes.

Did not hold up in a post-Larry Nassar/MeToo world. Several parts of this that were meant to be sexy? Or funny? Gave me the creeps.

I really appreciate the production and instrumentals on here, being a big fan of DJ Shadow, Unkle and MF Doom. But the lyrics and vocals don't do much for me, and I really could have done without the porn samples. It's a somewhat interesting concept, and I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously. He's playing a character, like Doom and other rappers often do. However I think a lot of the jokes and bars are pretty immature and cringe inducing. It's also way too long. The title track, Bear Witness, Real Raw and Blue Flowers are pretty good though. It should be mentioned as well, I think there are more proctology references on here than gynaecology ones. Maybe Dr. Octagon is multi-disciplined?

I love rap music but this was awful. I did not like his flow and the subject matter was juvenile and repetitive. I was on the fence whether to give it a 3 or 2, but the longer it went on the less and less I enjoyed it.

Gear: Hifiman Arya Artwork: 💀😷🩺 Production: 🎧😐🆗 Music: 🧸🧮🍼/👻💀👽 Rating: 🩺🩺(🩺)/5

Some outdated themes and words, but some of it is actually pretty ok. The sci-fi stuff is entertaining and funny, musically it's weird and cool. I was ready to give this a higher rating, but the gross gyno/porn/sexual assault stuff just kept going. Then again, is this any different than what's featured in rap today? (I don't like it in either case.) Minus that crap, this would have been a great album.

Starting an album off with soft porn to songs about “pee pee doo doo” …. Yeh not my type

Good beats and very smooth. Kinda reminded me of diggable planets. The weird sexual interludes were just kinda annoying. General Hospital is an all timer like 5 piece chicken dinner

Shite, listened to MF DOOM instead

great beats , interesting concept , horrible lyrics .

Really cant be arsed with talky songs, but musically this was different enough to merit an extra star.

I don't care for this at all.

at least it's different from the rest of the 1000 albums on the list

I kinda see some MF DOOM overlap here, but a ton of this has aged poorly. Like, REALLY poorly.

Better than I expected. Kinda old school, kinda shock horror and kinda groovy. The shock was - yeah - a bit of 'walk away from this one, that's inappropriate' but it's still kinda interesting. Unsure if I like it. Let's say I marginally do, for rap. That gives it an equal high score of 2 stars for all Rap music listened to on this list. 2.

In an alternate universe... This was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A nonstop series of non sequiturs. There's no meaning or coherence here, except the common thread of comic book character names and poop humor. The fact that reviewers dub this a concept album is just proof how willing and able human beings are to find patterns and meaning in anything. At this very moment, I'm looking at an electric socket in my wall, and it REALLY does look like a human face making an O expression, and that's the same phenomenon at work when folks find a storyline in these utterly nonsense lyrics. AND YET - That's not me saying it's bad. The production quality is high, the songs actually have hooks, and Dr. Octagon himself keeps up a tight and lyrical flow that any rapper should be proud of. There were lots of highlights throughout, but most of all I enjoyed "Blue Flowers", and especially "Blue Flowers Revisited".

Blue Flowers

That wasn't for me.

At its best, brilliantly ridiculous, at its worst puerile and ridiculous. Sadly mostly the latter which is a shame because this could've been so much better.

The artwork is pretty cool! ...and I liked the B-movie sound bites, and that's about it.

wiso hend rapper ide 90er s gfühl ich will pornos lose? 3000 ischer reecht geil am flowe aber i chegg nonig ganz. de skit nocher isch wieder horny stuff. aaah earth people ich bin ein devo. aber er gebore uf jupiter. alles klar. dasch en weirde guy. no awareness isch sehr horror. s ganze album isch bis etz sehr düster horror time. er laberet chli bulshit mengmol? allgemein no geil daser e figur spielt, bsunders eini wo ehner bös isch. cooli idee. real raw habi chli langwilig gfunde. aso anschinend isch das album underground und alles und halt ebe nöd gangsta rap. was 1996 speziell gsi isch. findi us hütiger sicht nöd soo wichtig. technical difficulties isch no geil er isch huere schnell aber dütlich. I don't know. In some ways it was an interesting experience. It was not difficult to listen to. But did it do anything interesting?

Weird. Lyrics are not clever. Some good old school rap beats/sounds though

This was... extremely weird. I do like concept albums and I really like the similar album Deltron 3030 but while the theme of that was human rights/technology in a dystopian future, the theme of this was a homicidal alien gynaecologist/surgeon which was... not for me, and it was an uncomfortable 20-song listen. The theme was so offputting that this would fall into the 1-star range for me but I'm going to give it an extra star for originality/creativity and good beats. Since it's a crazy album, I gave the "fave track" to the craziest song because it was just funny. Fave Track: Halfsharkalligatorhalfman Rating: 2

i’m so unsure about this album. in some ways i like its creativity, and it opens your imagination to a whole new world - often one you’d rather not be in. other times i found too obviously vulgar, as if it was trying too hard. i’m honestly completely confused - at times this was a 1, at other times it was a 4.

Enjoyed the beats hated the vocals/lyrics, honestly couldn’t recommend this to anyone.

This is probably one of the cheesiest hip hop records I've ever listened to. I thought the introduction of a lot of science vocabulary was interesting because It's almost never used in rap. Other than that the songs are extremely immature, annoying, offensive, or boring. Nothing remarkable happened. I was actually laughing at points because of the cheesy ass lyrics.

When it’s not gross, it’s lame

Zoveel goeie hiphop albums en dit staat ertussen

Amazing production, wildly stupid lyrics.

This is fine, does not really stick out to me.

Wow pervo psycho rap. Can be quite tasteless. Not for me. Out to shock. 2

could barely make it through four songs sorry :/

This takes me back to the early 90’s when I would listen to local pirate radio. Yes, some kid who fancied himself a rapper and flashy DJ. I see here he recorded his session. Good for him!

Musically also not to my taste.

Generally like most anything that Dan the Automator is associated with and this is no different. Very strange, doesn't make a whole shitton of sense, but a welcomed listen amongst a sea of shitty 'gangsta rap' garbage.

Jesus Christ. Why are hip hop artists so intent on letting us all know they’ve seen a vagina? Fair play mate, so have I but it didn’t compel me to fill an album with skit after skit about my legendary fanny sniffing abilities. Good beats, sadly ruined by the twerp banging on about banging.

Уважаю (преимущественно за коллаборации с видными дядьками), но оценить не могу. Лучшая песня - Blue Flowers.

I didn’t enjoy this. Thought the subject matter and lyrics were a bit silly at parts. The beats were generally good and incorporated a bit of psychedelia which is always welcomed. Probably wouldn’t add this album to my collection. No standout song to be mentioned for me.

This just seems like... bad themed rap?

Very fucking odd. And not in a good way, if such a thing exists. Oh, and it also has the other rap album tropes of skits / spoken word interstitials, and it lasts for several decades.

I love the automator stuff that came after this, like deltron, but this is a little too raw. Not a one star album, but the production is so amateurish that it cant rate three stars either. 2/5

The beats were pretty good but his rapping made this album near unlistenable.

Pretty gimmicky. Beats were good but overall way too long. Never a fan of the skits. 3000 is a solid song. Though I did I enjoy the references to a a horse in a hospital and half man, half shark, half crocodile. John mulaney and ManBearPig are good times and bump this up to a 2

Not my thing

Rectal rebuilding, doo-doo pisolts, gerbils for rectums, ass cracks, burn your anus, to damage any rectum, play anally through the trunk, rat poop, doo-doo in your outer ear, burn up in your anal region, bombs in his rectal factor, green shit on your earlobes, biomedical test your rectum, sewing up buttcracks, juicy brown booty, dog doo-doo, doo-doo on flame pits, cold booty from the buttcrack, stop their anals up with pickles, spots on the hiney crack, make your rectum hurt, bees flying around your rectum, open rectums to dissect. These are all phrases rapped on this album. Do you think this guy has a fixation? This is a different sounding rap album, at least lyrically. It even sounds like it might be smart, but if you look at the lyrics, they don't make sense at all. Otherwise, it's got the juvenile filthy lyrics you might expect, even some really creepy, gross stuff. At least it doesn't try to also be socially conscious.

Did not finish. Strange

Did not finish. Seems very of its time and not something I’d return to.

5/10 Hmm. Didn’t do it for me, disappointing as this is highly-regarded I think it is a combination of this 90s Automator-style production not being my favourite, and the verses being either inscrutable or childish Like his flow a lot of the time but the concept and lyrical content of this album doesn’t work for me at all Genuinely some of this sounds like satirical Tracey Jordan songs Best: Earth People

gar nicht so schlimm wie manch anderer Vorschlag hier

It started out semi interesting, kinda different, kinda amusing. Then after a while, no, this is just asinine (no anal-fixation pun intended).

I love Old School hip-hop. MF DOOM is a GOAT...but this aint it.

One of the first songs on the album talked about calling the doctor at peepeefiveonedoodoo. The first "song" was porn. It's hard to take it seriously after that. There were more juvenile references that just kept taking it down. What could have been good hip hop/psychedelic funk ended up losing to the bodily fluid references.

The music is actually fine. The lyrics are just trash. So glad I'll never have to listen to it again.

Honestly the production is great...the lyrics are a little too out there for me. Drops it from a 3/4 star to a 2 for me.

Kinda fun but I personally prefer more guitar. I found parts of it really weird and so much so that is wasn’t enjoyable for me

Needlessly profane, faux academic, and overall unpleasant. Sometimes the beats are okay.

Interesting - better than average rap. Sci-fi rap.

Probably my least favourite hip hop I’ve got so far. It starts off terrible. It’s a bit to over the top for me. It does get better as it goes, of course, it’s too damn long! 4.4/10

A couple songs I enjoyed but overall bad. Idc about this shit.

It's not good but is it weird to say that I'm really glad it exists?

Usually with an album like this, I’d suggest that it becomes a parody of itself, but can it really become a parody of itself when that’s how it feels right from the start? The thing is that I actually think there’s a lot to like about this. The beats are all good, Kool Keith’s flow has a great laid back quality that I really enjoy, the lyrics being practically all non-sequiturs is a novel concept which could work well if the concept wasn’t, well if the concept wasn’t what it is. If you were to take the elements of that make up the music, and give it a proper theme, rather than just what if Doctor Zoidberg was a misogynist creep, then it’d probably be decent. As it is, 2 stars

It arite.

Kinda psychopathic. Not in a good way.

Good flow, classic beats, funny lyrics

I'd listened to pieces of this album for years but this is the first time I made it through it's entirety. God this this is bloated and dated. A Visit to the Gynecologist and Girl Let Me Touch You are absolutely horrible tracks. Other songs are ok, but just thematically repetitive across the album. Blue Flowers is really the best track on here. Sadly, this album is on its way out for me. 2/5.

Not a fan.

It seems like they had a lot of fun writing and recording this, but I didn’t have much fun listening to it, despite trying to.

Musically, it’s interesting enough, but it’s a stupid concept to base an album around. And, there’s something off about the mix. It sounds like a cassette. The bass is muffled and sounds far off. Overall the album is fine, but I’ll pass. 2.7

yikes. why is so much popular rap so harsh, especially towards the ladies. why the goofy skits too.

Some of the samples made for good beats, but this falls strictly into my “Adult Swim” nerd hip hop category which I’ve just grown oddly tired of to the point of annoyance over the years. The gratuitous use of voiceover samples, record scratches, overloaded flows are surely a memorable sound from the 90s. But I can handle only enough to fill bumps between ATHF and Metalacalypse.

weird. counterculture. rap.

sounds cool until you accidentally hear the words he's saying

I miss hip hop albums with sound clips/bytes in them. It made the music more enjoyable. I have always said that I could tell a movie was going to be good if there was a sex scene right away. I now wonder if albums can go the same way. Let’s listen… Well, the beats are pretty good, the delivery is good for the style of hip hop but it’s not for me. I like a Method Man, Bushwick Bill, Dr.Dre delivery. Choice cut: Earth People

Dehä va nog inte min juttu! TBH alltså det är nog inte för mig! På gud jag förstod mig inte på det!

Given that I don't really enjoy too much rap.. this strange concept hip-hop rap just doesnt do it for me. Cool idea, though, for the most part.

C'mon now.

Strange album. I don’t really understand why he’s role playing an alien surgeon thing. It doesn’t sound terrible, but I don’t find it particularly enjoyable to listen to. I think the interludes/skits were my favourite parts somehow, off-putting as they were. I would say it’s a little below a 2.5/5 so I’m not going to round up.

one or two of the songs weren’t so bad, the rest was either disturbing (in a bad way) or rapey.

Super weird. I kinda like it, kinda don't. This project is eclipsed by Deltron 3030. Likely won't be in the regular rotation

Where is the Parental Advisory warning? I feel aurally raped by this potty-mouthed man-child with rape and scat kinks.

Not my music - but a little bit better than expected ;-)

Uh not sure what to make of it. Some of the skits were funny only in their absurdity but mostly not very good.

Interesting beats and some cool flows, but it's all rather creepy.

No Awareness refräng = Rage Against The Machine? • Känns som han har roligare och tar det lite mindre seriöst än mycket annat • - Dr. Octagon, please come to the office, come now - Oh fuck! Patient just died in room 105 - Cirrohsis of the eye - Nurse come in, please where are you? - Fuck it he's dead - Oh shit there's a horse in the hospital! • Dr. Elmo?

Men roligt namn

I've heard worse but same tired 90's rap formula of lyric content and dumb spoken word bits. Do like some of the science lyrics and a few decent tracks like I'm Destructive but a lot of crap too..

The song / skit rap album thing is something I don’t really get. Or like. Some of the tracks are OK and maybe it’s my lack of appreciation but I wasn’t very interested in what was going on here.

Better than some. Didn't really stick for me though...

Great production, and that sound is so evocative. Just a shame most of the lyrics seem to have been written and performed by a 14-year-old boy.

The beats on this record are pretty solid, but the rap lyrics are so juvinile and simplistic. That is... when he does rap. A lot of what's going on here is just sampling and looping of beats and lyrics. In Halfsharkalligatorhalfman you can hear where the loop track restarts (its a little dead air between loops). This should have been polished out in post-production. This guy raps a lot about sodomy, or unsolicited groping. There is a whole 2 minute skit about a woman's gynecology exam for some reason. This is a strange one... An example of the fucked up lyrics on this record... From the skit "Elective Surgery"... You have bees flying around your rectum..... Wtf?!? Dude must have had thought someone said anal bees instead of anal beads. Favourite songs: Wild and Crazy, 3000, I'm Destructive, Dr. Octagon Least favourite songs: Intro, I Got to Tell You, General Hospital, A Visit to the Gynecologyst, Elective Surgery, 1977(fuck skits... Especially when they are just samples of fucking pornos), Blue Flowers (both versions.... Although the revisited version is better) 2/5

Not bad.

Really creative. Top notch 90s hip hop 2/5

Sounds like a perverted version of DJ Shadow

There was definitely some skill in the delivery but I didn’t get bought into the theme of the album, it was a bit random. Hadn’t heard this artist before and I’ll probably stick to the hip hop I know and love.

Day19 - ridiculous but kinda cool. a crazy concept album that nobody in their right might would think of.

Ghetto hip-hop with a theme of the adventures of a doctor. Lyrics are interesting, not too profane, but a lot of it is a word salad of medical and scientific terms without much real sense to them. Not in my wheelhouse, interesting to be exposed to it but I doubt this gets another play.

professional yapping

Hypnotic and crazy weird lyrics. Not really my cup of tea but interesting to read about how this album took off

Exactly like what you’d think a kool Keith record where he cosplays an alien gynecologist would sound like. If he had been a teenager when he wrote it.

Great 90s beats, the rap is decent. Not my genre

Rectum.

Absurdist, vulgar but meaningless. Kinda a bop tho

I do not feel very safe under the scapula of Dr Octagon. Interesting... yes. Erratic. Sometimes unhinged.

I found this kind of terrible. I mean, if I wasn’t paying attention to the raps, I suppose the tracks were okay, but mostly not all that interesting sounding for the most part.

Has anyone counted how many times he says "rectum?"

Parts of this sounded really good. I liked some of the songs, although I hesitate any enthusiastic endorsements since I didn’t catch all the lyrics and when I did I often regretted what I heard. Clearly this has some tongue in cheek but since I’m not quite fully in on the joke the is is difficult to rate. The music was often good and interesting. Some did stand out from some of the other rap I’ve heard on this project. There was plenty that appealed to me. There was also plenty that didn’t. In hindsight, I am not entirely sure I needed to hear gynecologically-focused-space-rap before I die. And I definitely didn’t need it for more than an hour. But the talent is here and I can’t argue that it is unique and creative.

Cet album réussit la prouesse d'être à la fois futuriste par sa narration et préhistorique par la ringardise du rap qui y est pratiqué.

definitely interesting

A+ production, C- vocals. Kool Keith takes the theme way too seriously and his rap style still sounds like it’s 1988. Couldn’t stop thinking about how much better this album would’ve been if MF Doom did it

Beats 4/5, flow 1/5, concept 0/5. Let’s average it out at a 2

1.5. Yeah, not great. I'm trying to figure out why this album would be included in the list. Start of horror rap? Early dan the automater project? Still better than elbow

1 for the lyrics 4 for the music / production From a production standpoint, I really like this album. Vocals are crisp, instrumentation clean and well balanced. Effects are interesting, solid use of stereo separation, and I love it when there are story clips and low fi samples from other sources inserted here and there. I love the design and would give it a 4 if it were an instrumental album. However... I am not sure what message I just heard, so there's no way it's getting a 4 from me. First off, at least 1/2 the lyrics are incomprehensible even after three listens. Like, I hear the words, but strung together as they are might as well be another language. Of the 1/2 I seem to comprehend, much of it seems to be related to abusive anal sex and dropping variations of the slang word, “dootie” as much as possible. I cast no judgement on those that want to partake in that activity as long as it's as Dr. Huberman would say, “Context appropriate, consent appropriate, species appropriate, and age appropriate,” but causing physical trauma that requires medical attention does not sound appropriate or caring to me. Is the artist being crude for the sake of being crude? Is he condemning or making some commentary about society through sarcasm and extreme illustrations? Was there some big revolution in butt sex that happened in '96 that he's fascinated by? Is this just this guy's jam (it in there)? Or, is this some rorschach test to see what parts of the story presented are recognized by the listener?

Well, now I know why I had never heard of Dr. Octagon before. Even as background music I found this hard to get through.

It’s an ugly album, some nice beats here and there but mostly quite difficult to listen to. I’m sorry to say I gave up on it

I didnt really get into hiw flow

Good beats, but the obsession with the word "rectum" got really old.

Part rap part horror/sci-fi. The beats were good (the only reason I am giving this a two) but the lyrics were cringe… and let me tell ya to listen to this while working in the hospital was wild. 😆

i don’t know how this wasn’t on my radar back in the day. i feel like i would have been into then. solid beats and interesting abstract and absurdist lyrics.

2.0 - 2.5

This album is the one I’m most unsure about. I really like the production, but hate the lyrical content/themes. Sometimes Dr. Octagon’s flow works for me, sometimes it doesn’t. The lyrics and some of the samples made uncomfy enough to make this a 2.

This felt like a bunch of people trying and failing to imitate mf doom. There was some decent stuff in the beginning but it completely fell apart and was way too long. By the end the bars felt like bad freestyle. High 2.

It's not my style of music and had some weird songs like A Visit to the Gynecologist which I didn't enjoy.

Fucking odd: I didn't really understand the point of this album, just plain odd. Firstly there were some weird songs on this album, not the best speech towards women as well. I feel fans of this album are massive male manipulators, just the vibe I'm getting. The sampling was sub par and overall it was very underwhelming and just not very good at all.

Weird and funny premise but didn't really vibe w it

There is a couple songs that I enjoy, and I wouldn’t say there are many songs that are straight trash. Maybe 2 songs if anything. This album is extremely inventive and experimental, but maybe too much so? I would say the album is trash, but I wouldn’t revisit it or go back to it.

My only context for this album was a memory of a high school acquaintance - the kind of guy who was somehow popular and funny but still repulsed most girls (including myself)--being a huge fan of this album. One time he convinced a girl who wasn't repulsed by him from our algebra II class to listen to it by burning her a copy of the CD. She came back the next day and just said "that was really weird," and stopped flirting with him during class after that. Yeah, I can see why that happened. If you don't listen to the lyrics it's fine - full of interesting, mellow beats and fun flow. But the lyrics are truly bizarre; sometimes funny and certainly unique, yes, but mostly gross and strange. Not for me but I can definitely see a 15 year old boy being really into this.

Sigh. I wanna say this was just a 90s thing but we're still doing this, aren't we? Making reference to genitalia and giggling about it like a bunch of middle schoolers? Look, the flow is experimental and sometimes even downright clever. In fact, the whole album feels like it's almost 10 years ahead of its time. Except for the subject matter. It's behind by a good ten years. Even in the mid-90s, there was no excuse for this basic, childish writing. I didn't give the mid-century misogyny of the Everly Brothers a pass and I'm not giving this one a pass either. I'm so over it.

- I hope the music lives up to this title cuz its wild - The flow is slick and production is pretty good - Like the electronic and scratching influenced hip hop - Actually some of these songs are whack lyrically, and the gynecologist skit was too weird - 2.5

I’ve never heard of Dr. Octagon before. I know that I’m pretty rubbish with rap music, but I think I’ve generally heard of most of the people, if not their music. However, today is completely new to my ears, so let’s listen! Side note, that album art definitely could have been for a punk band. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Earth People, Blue Flowers This was quite an odd one. At times, it fit right in with other 90’s hip hop with its typical beats and flows that we’ve come to expect. At other times, it feels more like a hip hop Monster Mash with how silly it can be. The actual rapping is pleasant, and the skits are really weird. Overall, I’d consider this album to be fine. It would be a stretch to say I enjoyed it, but equally so if I was to say I disliked it.

Hip hop for teenagers basically, it's a shame I didn't hear it when it came out. I mean I enjoyed the Bloodhound Gang back then so that's what I'm basing the maturity on. Although it's not exactly great, it's just alright, so I don't feel like I missed out. One of the strangest inclusions in the book. The best thing about this album is as a demonstration of how woefully Spotify's Explicit label is applied. Just the one, on a 26 second skit, because that has a 'fuck' in it.

Hab wieder nur die Hälfte gehört, weil nichts besonderes, aber schlecht war es nicht

supaboring

Not especially my kinda hip-hop, but beyond that the theme and character feel a little weak, the long ride-out beats got tiresome, and it can get kinda gross. Still a lot of talent on display with the rhyme-schemes and delivery. Two and a half. Fave track: Real Raw

I think this will be kind of forgettable for me. Aside from the kind of gross skits here and there, I didn’t find these tracks to be that compelling. There are some decent beats in moments and some talent behind some bars, but I was a bit put off early on and never won back. Fave track: Bear Witness

I thought this was inventive much much of it was repetitive.

I hate to say it but this just didn't do anything for me. Character rappers are nothing extraordinary in the genre so I was surprised to see so many people having an issue with this. I guess some of the topics spoken about can be uncomfortable absolutely but it's just an extension of the over the top character. All that said, it didn't really do much for me, kind of bleh. Although Qbert was good as always

This was a fascinating album to listen to. I'm not aware of many rap concept albums, especially none so early with such a talented group behind it. It's weird. A whole hour of a homicidal alien gynecologist is not exactly what I was expecting to appear on this list, or ever hear. Sticks to its' underground roots and laid out a path for a lot of weird / story based rap during an interesting time of for this style

I've heard worse... not really my thing. 2.5

Ooof... musically it wasn't the worst thing I've heard of here but it isn't super complicated. However the lyrics. Youch. Really, REALLY dated and pretty much sexual assault across the album. That made it very hard to listen to at times. I don't want to give it a 1 because it's at least listenable but the lyrics absolutely have not aged well. Unfortunately that's a problem with a bunch of the rap albums on here. 1.5/5

Album 104 of 1001 Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst Rating : 2 / 5 Favorite Track : The Minute of Silence Before the Hidden Track Summary: Dr. Octagonecologyst introduces the character of Dr. Octagon, a homicidal, extraterrestrial, time-traveling gynecologist and surgeon. Conclusion : I'm in line for steak but they serve me bologna. Just non-sensical. Perhaps include it on some comedy compilation. No doubt it is enjoyable to it's intended audience. Gave an extra point for that. I come up with equally stupid stuff while rattling off to myself in the shower. Can't believe I ate the whole thing.

I didn’t find this to be a particularly special hip hop album.

I feel like if we’re just going to make up random do-do for our lyrics it really wouldn’t be that hard to make it rhyme? I don’t think Kool Keith is a very good rapper. I do like some of the production - Bear Witness still stands out, but the skits are pure garbage. Also, pretty rapey.

2.5? Some of it was pretty good. But man I hated some of the beats.

Halfsharkalligatorhalfman.

Poopy butt lyrics carried by some sick beats.

Moments of being cool but generally just too weird, the less said the better.

meh, doctor octagonecoloshit if you ask me

Nee, ik heb geen vertrouwen in dokters die snel praten!

Wiiiild alt rap

It started out shocking, then was entertaining, then became unbearable

Pussy and farts and also dicks and balls. Truly a thinking man's album. I recognize this guy from that one song on "Fat of the Land" by The Prodigy. While listening to this, my most prominent thought was that I should just go listen to the funny crab album instead. I get why people would like this and the spooky atmosphere is cool, but overall, not an album for me.

This album is definitely a type of art, but lacks the fun and showmanship of rap albums from the likes of Parliament. Objectively, the songs and the sketches are not bad but they fall too much into the vibe of being pointless, and random in theme. There's a certain sense of cohesiveness that this album slips a little too in and then out of. Even with an intentional listen, trying to get into the mind of Dr. Octagon, the album is just a bit too much to be rated highly, but respectable enough to not dislike with any real passion.

Well, Earth People is just... not a good song. He's actually not a bad rapper. Does have some original beats, but misogyny much?

I'll definitely give it points for creativity. It definitely has more of a glorious art project vibe that just a straightforward rap album. I did enjoy the electronic slant of the layers, but ultimately the theme doesn't work for me and though the raps are creative, it just seems at times to be a word salad... about some alien gynecologist. I'm Destructive was the strongest for me.

Production is fine, but Dan the Automator shines way more on Deltron 3030, his production is a little too subdued here. The lyrics are awful and really take away from this project. There's a few songs I'll come back to but it's too long and lyrically off-putting to revisit as a whole.

Hip hop sin demasiados miramientos. Para amantes del género. No es un artista que conociese

Manche waren stark andere eher weniger 2,8 von 5

It has a goofy Halloween-y feel to it. It's good that most of the sounds created are original and come from instruments, though it would be strange to make that kind of statement about someone like The Who, for example.

I didn’t mind this at first but it felt really long. Also not really a fan of all the sexually explicit stuff. I liked “Earth People” but that’s about it.

Stupid album. There are some fun doctor lines on the song intros, but the raps and production are lame.

While I find the name and the album entertaining, my feelings don't go beyond that

3.5/10 cmo q bordea entre como el pico y bueno pero no me convence pa ratearlo mas alto. tiene canciones buenas pero la cantidad de versos q se siente q el wn esta fighting the beat las opacan.

Weird 90s rap rock. Not very good. Maybe the type of thing that inspired Linkin Park? If so, good for them for doing that. But otherwise, not something I enjoyed. 1.5

eugh 3/10

4/10. I can see why I haven't heard any of this but Earth People.

Look, overlong.

Some decent flows, and beats, got a little repetitive though and the gynecologist theme is corny. I feel like there's a lot out there that does this sound better

Third day in a row of 90s hip-hop/rap. This is by far the weirdest of the three. Also the one that makes me feel most creeped out. Some of it sounds good but I can't get past the bizarre theme and imagery.

Just really strange, not downright terrible but not good either. It is unique at least I suppose.

Curiós disc de hip hop, amb unes bases i samples força efectius i unes lletres força infantils... no està malament, però res imprescindible

NOT my kind of music.

Definitely feel like the CR is incoming on this album...... otherwise, also not really that great. Would not seek out in the future

Started off liking the samples and general vibe but as it went on it just felt like listening to a frustrated horny teenager shouting about having all the sex, when the reality is they're just upstairs in their bedroom with a tired old sock...

curious addition to best albums.

Didn’t finish, thought it was pretty bad.

Rap, hip hop ...nope. Point final

Jazz poem rap. Cool concept and I relate to the artistic expression he's going for but the repetitive nature of the beat is boring musically.

I'm not super into psychedelic trip-hop stuff like this but some of the beats and production on this album was pretty good. Also, the theme of this album was weird as shit like they went above and beyond with the gynecologist bit

Space Herpes

Some cool beats here and there, but overall, this didn't do anything for me.

Musically interesting but a bit much

Hip hop. Coñazo

Pretty chilled, seems to be one long groove and some jokes I'm not really listening hard enough to get. Juvenile Funky but not my thing

Listened Before? N This album feels ahead of it's time. The styles are cool and it flows nicely. HOWEVER, the overarching sexual themes are just 'meh' for me. I think I'm jaded. Oh well. Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist: Earth People

2.5- after the start of 3000 the rest of the album devolves into too many doctor sex songs then completely loosing my at the song about the shark alligator man

Damn this album is long as hell. Although most of the tracks are short, it sure feels like it drags for me. Not totally into it. Definitely hate the skits.

Geht erst mal gut los. Ist dann aber langweilig.

I appreciatte the idea of doing something artistically original. However, I dont like the result.

Honestly the rhymes were dope, but juvenile. Not my style.

It's... some kind of hip hop. Unconventional, I'll give it that. It's unashamedly immature. Like, really immature. Maybe if I was younger I would have liked it? But then I wouldn't have been allowed to listen to it, so I'm not sure who the intended audience is. He doesn't have a great voice, but I guess that's not necessary to enjoy, or try to enjoy, this album. It's just that at times he sounds disinterested, which kills any excitement I might have had. Ultimately, I had to sign off early. It just felt like boring, uninterested rambling after a while.

Much better rhan expected. Like to hear it again.

While its production is well deserving of the album’s popularity, Dr. Octagon’s boring flow fails to maintain engagement.

A very effective demonstration of why hiphop music doesn’t speak to me.

Not really into eight-sided, extraterrestrial, psychopathic, pornagraphic gynecologists; but the music on its own is ok.

pretty disappointing overall. clinical backbeats and off-tempo medical themed lyrics simulate a creative and entertaining album. would prefer something like Deltron 3030 or MM..Food

I thought I wouldn't like it and I was right

Weirdly captivating for what it is, but at the end of the day, not quite my jam.

Não peguei o conceito, prefiro mais trip do que hip.

Not my favorite

Not my aesthetic and energy

Mostly gross

Pointlessly long and all sounds the same

Niet zo bijzonder, maar ook niet verschrikkelijk

It's fine, a bit juvenile, but better than the all "fur 'n bling, I'm so hard, look at my gun" gangsta nonsense

I don't get it. Why make a rap concept album about going to the gynaecologist? Beats all pretty basic, didn't pay huge attention to the words.

Some interesting bits where the songs are a mash of alternative and hip hop, but also some cheesy bad taste bits and weird skits

This is what a Tracy Jordan rap album would sound like. 2.5

This gets points for trying out a theme and for having semi-interesting (at times) beats/hooks. Lyrically, I wasn't into it and the skits were honestly giving me secondhand embarrassment.

The intro actually sounded pretty interesting. After that, it was the same old thing. Hip-hop isn't music. 1/5

Boring repetitive beats with some disturbing lyrics. The Dr needs a doctor himself.

WTF!? I could live 1001 lives and not need to hear this.

Tough like a ukulele?! What the F ? This is ridiculously awful. Lyrics are juvenile and not terribly inventive. How many times on how many songs can you say rectum? Or anus, or butt or doo doo, Is this guy 5yo? And the whole gynecologist exam thing… unbelievably childish. Beats are not bad, but kinda simple and uninteresting. Not breaking new ground. Why is this on this list? An example of really bad rap to compare with the really good rap so you can hear the difference?

Not a fan at all. Firstly, I am at best ambivalent about the skit portions on hip hop albums I like. The skits on this album epitomized everything I do not like about them: they are so cringe. Second, the songs themselves had no energy to them at all. But they also weren't chill and laid back either. Very bizarre. I think this album would make people hate hip hop.

I tried but I just couldn’t stand it.

too many bodily fluids for my liking

This ain't it. Hated it.

The flows kinda wack. Beats are ok. I guess this must have been ground breaking for its time but it just seems like someone immature trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy.

Clunky beats, bad flow, dumb lyrics, disturbing interludes and silly sample ad libs. Almost unlistenable. Until I heard the Christopher Cross paraody on Blue Flowers revisited. The rest is stupid, hacky, 90s rap. And there was lots of it then. Not important to in the guise of listen to before you die.
