Not for me 1/5 didn’t finish the album 2/5 didn’t keep the album 3/5 kept it and will listen when songs randomly show up on shuffle 4/5 kept it and will listen to it again on my phone 5/5 buying the vinyl

I vaguely recall enjoying one of their other 1990s albums many years back, so I was ready to give this one a shot. But damn, I really don't find much to like or admire here. It has a very maximalist style of alt-rock, with added instrumentation, atmosphere, and background vocals that should make it rich and joyous - but instead it's like window dressing for dreary nothingness of unexciting songs. The vocals are frequently bellowed and the songwriting is giving me nothing. This album has the self-aggrandisement of baroque pop, with none of the splendour; and the whiny indulgence of indie rock with none of the wry, raw or jangly charm. This gives me visceral flashbacks to how tasteless British popular culture of the late 90s and early 00s was. I was planning to give this two stars but by writing this I seem to have talked myself into: 1*

You know what needs to go? This band!! Awful!!! 🤮🤮

This sounds like an album of the 90’s but not the good parts of the 90’s. It wasn’t good and I truly didn’t like a single song

Bad 90s alt shit

Not impressed - every song sounds the same, and I don’t care for their style.

Is there no shame in Wales?

When I saw the name Manic Street Preachers, I thought they were a band of hate clerics. I was sorely disappointed that it wasn’t, and was actually just shit

One song

Oubliable

хуже хуйни в жизни не слышал.

Pretentiöst skit.

ugh that voice man. It's ok music , but c'mon my guy! Change the tone or the key ....something. This is rough

Hated it

What is it with all these mediocre 90s Brit pop bands? Not all these need to be on the list. I just looked it up and the book this list was based on was edited by an English writer so there you go. This album is mid at best. Sounds like something on Christian rock radio.

Surprised this group is on the list and that they are putting out an album this year. Sounds like just another rock band.

No thank you. Boring and uninspired.

typ rätt mid, borde inte va på denna lista

This singer has one way of singing and does it on everysong. It gets old really fast and I got bored after the second song. Generic, noisy, waste of time. 2/10

As mentioned elsewhere, I wrongly assumed anything deemed britpop or from the UK in the 1990s would have a certain quality to it. Not entirely anti-mainstream or against convention, but unique in a way that separated itself from the grunge hangover and slew of Next Seattle and one hit wonders of the mid-late 90s. The more the second wave continued on, the more lifers from other fine, but not really britpop bands got sorted into the genre by the NME editors always looking to keep the show going. The Manics - more punk, political in their concerns and lyrics, less overtly anti-American rock or provincial - a UK rock band during britpop should’ve been a knockout for me. And everything I’ve ever heard, including this album, is just incredibly dull. Their backstory is incredible and incredibly sad around this time - lyricist and guitarist up and disappears! Forever!

Zeikerige rock

Manic’s are my least favourite of the 90’s bands. Wondered if this might change my mind. Nope, I can’t stand his whiny voice. The first song was awful and then it went into the dirge that is Design For Life. I don’t even think the single will be a redeeming feature for me. Australia was ok.

Day 99 - No idea when this got generated I fucking hate britpop. 1/5

1. elviz - 1 2. life - 1.5 3. kevin - 1 4. enola - 1 5. go - 0 6. zky - 1.5 7. girl - 1 8. removablez - 1 9. auztralia - 1 10. interiorz - 0 11. auuay - 1 12. feeling - 1.5

Never heard of them, but I listened ... Now I don't have to do that again.

Väldigt till intetsägande, inget jag kommer lägga på minnet

Good lord, no thank you. This is an awful album. 1/5

yep... everything must go... including this album

Ei itseä varten tämä lätty.

To basic

Generally I'll play what I'm told, but this is a rare "oh god no". Will forever be totally baffling to me that they became as big as they did.

I remember hearing about this band from the English music magazines I read as a teenager, asking for the CD for Christmas and being incredibly disappointed. I get why this band never broke in the US. What I don't understand is why they did in the UK. His voice is grating and the music is incredibly boring mid-tempo over-orchestrated alt rock. It's not even dull enough to ignore, it's like having a persistent whine and high-pitched buzz in your ear.

More Brit pop dogshit yippee!

Never heard them but heard of them, and for some reason I assumed these guys were in the same vein as Pet Shop Boys. I thought the first minute of the first song was a joke. Yuck.

I honestly don’t get it. It feels like a high school band with nonsensical lyrics basically got to be on Spotify.

Not my style really

I did not care for this

Everything...sucks? Favorite Track: "Everything Must Go"(I guess. It still kinda sucked).

Not so much

This is a mess. I can't for the life of me understand how something that sounds like this would have ever resonated with enough people at any time to now be considered anywhere close to essential listening. The vocals are so grating, it makes me physically tense. Get this out of here.

This album is worse than boring. This album is a piece of garbage that throws grenades down your ear while masquerading as an art exhibit. To start, the vocals are straight up not good at all. The voice is annoying, tacky, and frankly gets on my nerves. In addition, the instrumentals are far too loud and chaotic, and not in a good way. There were points in the record where I genuinely found myself wincing and having to pause the song to keep my ears from bleeding. I imagine looking at the audio file for most of these songs would just be like looking at a wall. Oh, but maybe the lyrics make up for the beyond terrible vocals and instrumentals, right? Almost, if you’ve never listened to words before. They might appear to be deep and full of wisdom and whatnot, but half of the lines do not seem to form a coherent theme and the other half are the most basic, overused lines in the history of music. Basically, this album can be summed up as everything people say is bad about Imagine Dragons but scaled up to 11. I will say, I do seem to notice some resemblance to the Foo Fighters. That is, if all the instrumentals were being destroyed in a Nirvana set and Dave Grohl actually did drugs. Speaking of Nirvana, some of the songs that aren’t absolutely garbage just sound like they’re pulled straight from a Nirvana record. The riffs, the instrumentals, everything. So basically, when they’re not making the worst “music” you’ve ever listened to, they’re copying Nirvana. Absolutely terrible execution on what seemed initially to me like an interesting album concept.

The mix is bad for the first 5 tracks. Track 6 sounds better. The lead vocals are worthless. The final track is slightly better than most. This album doesn't need to be on this list. Sounded a bit better on a car stereo than headphones.

More forgettable Brit pop. How does this band have 2 records on this list?

This was bland for me. Felt like 45 minutes of the same song.

Everything must go? Yuup especially this old shitty album.

What’s with all the Welsh bands? Is this a Welsh list? This shit is terrible.

Pure stereotype. Everything I disliked about 90s rock--bland, whiney, screechy. Kinda can't believe I made it to the end.

didnt finish

So overrated

I absolutely piggin' hate the Manics. Hugely overrated, massively egotistical nationalist wankers.

Ill be ok never hearing any of these again.

I just could not get into this album. I couldn't even listen to the entire thing. Maybe I'll try another day. 1/5

just... not a fan

squeezed cat vocals forced me to abandon within a few seconds of the first track.

I hate the singer's voice. Show stopper, next album.

Who the fuck is Kevin Carter? All the songs sound the same to me. Not really a fan.

I had one album of theirs and thought it was alright. This was not. I found nothing about this to be compelling or noteworthy. This is another baffling inclusion.

not loving it at the top...yeah I think I have to give up after song 2. Not my style.

No I don't like it. Not one bit. Instrumentation was basic and the vocals were actually horrible.

I tried but just couldn't get into it

I don’t really like the guys voice or songs. Not the worst but it didn’t really do anything for me.

I dislike this album. I find the singer's voice really problematic. And I suspect the lyrics are interesting, but I struggle to hear what he's saying. Is it just me? Couldn't even finish it.

I already hated their stuff with Richey Edwards but somehow this is even worse.

Shit. Hated on it

Schrebbelt

Not really anything there for me

Not my thing, terrible.

So mediocre.

Well, that was boring as hell.

Can understand why this is liked but I just don't, really.

Not my cup of tea.

I simply don't like this band. Turned it off halfway through and listened to Nas instead.

Wannabe rock stars who cover up their absence of star quality with guitar fuzz, unbalanced mixes, and more yelling than they know what to do with.

Manages to be both pedestrian and painful. Lots of chords, but almost no memorable melodies… the thin and samey vocals stand no chance against a monotonous wall of guitar. Appreciate the album was made in tragic circumstances, but independently of that, the band seem to take themselves incredibly seriously. Not very endearing nor fun to listen to. Prime cuts: A Design for Life (anthem), No Surface All Feeling (riff)

"Everything must go" you can just chuck out this album.. didn't make my ears blead but I didn't enjoy the wall of distorted guitar and shoutsinging.

Rough listen.

can't stand it

Of course I’ve heard the name, but I’ve never listened to a single song. This was agony. The singer had a lot of enthusiasm. I cannot understand why this band is so popular.

Terrible noise, I'm surprised anybody likes them.

not their best, far away...

Somehow i don´t like MSP at all. Nothing grabs me and the production sound is like sh*t too.

Nope. Not my style at all

90s prog rock? Interesting. Reminds me of a Spock's Beard type of band. Overall pretty meh.

shitty version of weezer

Britisk 90’er alternativ hard rock, politisk

Rather unremarkable. Not bad in any way... but great non-assuming background music.

Todo está chido dependiendo del mood
