Reviews (page 11 of 11)
All songs sounded pretty similar. Not my favorite album would not listen again.
Solid album for its age. Would not listen again. Too many memories of the old people playing it instead of the music I wanted to listen to at village bbq's when I was a kid!
Some great songs, but overall the album is dated. Standouts: Oh Boy, That'll Be The Day. 2/5
Pretty much exactly what you can expect from a 50s rock album. Songs all about love, pretty simple musically but still pleasant. Nothing exceptional though. 5/10.
Ugh
This is a much older pop album. Not that older pop is bad it just actually feels dated. The songs were good and it was positive but wasn’t really feeling it. 3.8/10
Not bad but buddy holly has always felt pretty lame
Pretty typical of the era, nothing too exciting for me.
quaint museum piece
Yeaaah not my style. Too croony for me.
I liked it more than I thought I would, maybe because I've a soft spot for Buddy.
buddy holly being buddy holly 2.5
fun i can see why he is famous, I guess. a lot of good tunes.
That classic rock and roll sound. But no Peggy Sue?! Yea this album is a great time capsule but lacks the punch of his singles.
buddy who
some cool vocal flourishes and good guitar playing but very boring and uniform songwriting. i imagine in the 50s it was interesting. maybe i'm just ill-equipped to appreciate this album. can't lump it in with my 3s; sorry buddy.
It’s decent. I’m sure in it’s time it was revolutionary and I have no doubt that countless artists were inspired by Holly. But I feel like nowadays it just sounds like a 50’s cliche music album. Basically any of these songs could be in the background of a movie set in the fifties and you wouldn’t notice
Not my favorite.
First half: Early Beatles did it better. He does a weird hiccup thing like Elvis sometimes. Second half: much better in terms of style. notable mentions: That'll Be the Day - actually good An Empty Cup - mad lyrics about heartbreak and coca cola Rock me my baby - some HS junior definitely got fingered to this song at some point The early tracks are all PLEASE LOVE ME and the ending tracks are all heartbreak vibes so thats interesting. All in all, nostalgic vibes about young white romance with some harmonized rapey vibes. 4/10. wouldnt listen to the album in its entirety again - maybe those songs mentioned.
As expected. Mercifully short
oh boy!
the sound of a daytime shift in a shit pub in liverpool full of all the old timers not talking and staring into the middle distance. alright for a couple of tracks and i respect it being trail blazing and new at the time but its not for me to listen to in these days.
Deece. Made me want to listen to more 1950's rock and roll.
Oh boy! What an album! Had me bopping around my living room like...a chirping cricket -Until the third song anyway. Then things turned dark. It's been dark ever since. So dark. So bleak. So cold.
I can do best of 50s but this all the way thru didn’t really do it for me - 3.5
Definitely the 50s. I few fun riffs and a few slow jams
yeah this was cute but I probably won’t listen again #takemebacktomilkshakes+diners
50s songs are often short and boring. For that time maybe this was exciting but not anymore.
not my taste
Largely unmemorable for me, apart from some of the more well known tunes. Not something I'd, usually listen to 2.7/5.
gammal rock'n'roll.
1957: Oh Boy!, That'll Be The Day
it was ok. i guess i get why it's on this list?
I'm not a fifties guy...
It’s gonna be a 1
Dated doo-woppy, barbershooppy love songs from the 50s. I knew Buddy Holly was gonna show up on the list. Never heard of the Chriping Crickets and they do chirp in the background. So glad rock music picked up more drug induced bad side in the 60s cause this is just a sugarbomb. Could have got a better shot of the team for the album cover...what a set of studs. This may have its place in music history somewhere, somehow but I'm not digging it...1.2 stars.
I get the nostalgia and honouring older legends, but this didn't hit with me at all.
pta que son malas estas bandas
Not for me.
Dog shit
Man. What a weird one; It’s a tad uncomfortable. Who knew Buddy Holly was so persistent. Calm down man. 0.6/5.0
Sounds like early the be sharps
classic rock and roll is so boring to listen
All very predictable. Competent but just not my thing.
I was not digging this album. It's maybe too old timey for me. Not sure. Yes, at least one track is still in the zeitgeist. Even so, this did not resonate with me at all.
Look at these little dweebs sharing guitars. Adorbs. This kind of cheesy music has its place in history somewhere for a reason but not an album I’d revisit.
Weird creeps croon in harmony to demand their baby's be true.
Appreciate it was ground breaking at the time but now this is worst than a dance album where every track sounds the same. Not worthy of a greatest album for me.
Totally fine, I’m sure great for the time, but not for me. A real happy snoozer
Lack of variety made this a long 25 minutes
Not for me
This is so hard to listen.
That was incredibly underwhelming
genre: country-ish vocal: 2/10 instrument: 2/10 lyric: no idea
I accept the argument that this stuff is important to the evolution of music but I don't feel compelled to listen to this all the way through. Maybe I'll get around to it someday and regret not spending more time with it but I seriously doubt that.
I wish the music had died sooner
snore
Listening to this feels a bit like watching a football match from the 50s on TV. You can tell there was talent, but this is not that watchable anymore. “Maybe Baby” is basically “Love Me Do” before “Love Me Do” so credit where it’s due: Buddy helped invent pop and 2 mn long tracks. And those sweet little backing vocals? Valalala, vala, valalala… kind of charming, really! From the same era, Halley, Richard, Berry sound better to me. Good music for Christmas though.
For years and years I have heard legends about the life and music of Buddy Holly. In my mind he became like a second coming of Elvis Presley, but much better. Once, I was stuck on a vacation with just one book - about Buddy Holly. So it's pretty funny in the hindsight that I have never heard any of his songs. And it was quite a shock to me that I actually can't stand this album. I forced myself to sit through thew whole thing, even though it's one of the shortest albums on the list. He had a tragic story, great name and awful music.RIP
Fine for nostalgia but not something I'd listen to for more than a couple minutes
Yuck
ned so gfühlt, aber eif wege stil sach halt
Normally with old albums i try to put myself in the mindset of the time of its release to try to contextualize it, and often that makes the listen more interesting. That didn't work for me with this. It's toothless. I'm sure it's a historically important album but i can't see myself ever listening to this again.
1 stern
Shitty and boring old jukebox whiny "romance" music.
Not for me. 1/5
no
I have nothing to say.
I don't like this song because the beat is not good.
I dont like this song because i dont like the beat and it boring for me i do not recommend this songs .
do you want to listen to music? then listen to this. I don't like this album because I don't really like how the instrument sound and the lyrics are weird. i would not recommend this song to someone else because it sounds really bad and I dont like at all. I would give this album a solid 1 stars.
0 i dont like the lyrics and it sounds too country. 0 i dont like the lyrics and i just dont like it 0 i hate it it sound country and i dont like country
I dont like this album because its not my style I also dont like it cause its borning I wont recommend it because its kinda lame
Tepid and meaningless. Defined a genre, but better left in the past
Sounds like a children’s album. If I never hear That’ll Be The Day again, it’ll be too soon.
Don’t like this music either.
I cannot get past the annoying squeak in his voice to get through the album I am sorry.
look I can appreciate its importance in the history of popular music but there is no situation I can imagine where I would choose to listen to this album again.
Bad
I can’t get jiggy with this shit.
Can’t. Was open to it but just can’t. It was annoying.
1/12 8/100
Could not listen to it. YouTube music didn't carry this album
It's one of those albums where only one song was popular. Mid af. 1.5/5
Liquid shit. You don't have to be a racist to steal black music.
Not for me
Not feeling this style of music
danke dass am tag woni irgendwie 7 dtund zug fahre s album 25 minute lang isch. worschinli isch morn denn wenni will in marseille umelatsche es 2 stündigs indie rock album us de 90er. oh boy isch cute sie singed herzig zeme. not fade away isch au seehr cool, mega simpel aber s funktioniert au wells so minimalistisch isch. call and response und so. aber scho sehr wissi version vo rock and roll maybe baby findi ok, und jo sicher mega influential und so aber meh. wies lisliger werded scho seeehr cool. its too late au süss. babababa. bi tell me how chunt etz nöd soo viel spannends. aaah thatll be the day kenni. sehr cool, mega swagger mega mit de stimm am spiele. im looking for someone to love isch okay. an empty cup wieder bitz meh country. langsamer, chli am croone de buddy. send me some lovin fühli recht, halt meeega 50er doo-wop time. rocke mich mein beber tönt wie mrs robinson de gitarre riff eimol churz.
Pap. God life must have been depressing in 1957 for this boring old nothing to be something to get giddy about. Quite a lot less good than Robbie Williams.
The big hits are fshort twee rock n roll numbers , but realistically i'd never choose to listen to any of it.
Not my style of music
Not my style at all.
Humanity went from this to Slayer in less than 30 years!
No
Absolute definite 1. Can't stand the music
Ekki fyrir mig
En vittu tiä
I don't really fuck with buddy holly
First listen Saved 0/12
Too boring. Same song over and over again with such predictable lyrics. Could understand why it would be a bop at the time to dance to but thats it.
Just can't get on board with Buddy or early rock n roll in general. Sounds so primitive in a a bad way. Like hanging a children's drawing in an art gallery just because it shows the foundations of someone's art even though it's clearly shite.
a fun listen but forgettable for me
To be fair - boppy lyrics and good rhythm I can see why it was popular at the time. Way to jangly for my preference - I can’t finish the album. Not for me
I don't think I had heard any track on this album before, but it basically sounded like I expected. It was fine, some fun songs, but I probably wouldn't bother to listen to it again.
Nice. Like afternoons at the pool in the 60's nice. I can't imagine wanting to listen to this again, but I would encounter it and think - yes, this is where my music came from, and I appreciate it for that, but its not my music. That bright enthusiastic stiffness of rock is a great energy, for then, but it's not the energy that works for me now. Historically, its valuable but contemporarily, it's an artifact to my current listening environment. 1 star, because it's worth reviewing. But not two because I will not seek to listen to it again.
Man I really didn’t like this
Yeah, this didn’t do it for me. Definitely an interesting album, some really good guitar and I’m sure it was great for the time. But it’s just way to old for me to actually enjoy. It actually kind of makes me angry because it is the sound of a generation of people I don’t like. A generation who had everything handed to them on a silver platter and the only struggle they faced was finding a wife. I mean the whole album is the same song over and over again just said in a different way. Hard for me to enjoy for that reason. Probably wouldn’t care if one or two songs were on an playlist with other artists from the 50s, but I don’t think I will ever listen to this as an album.
meh
Very sharp sounding, like too much treble
Nah, not my shit at all.
Meh
Chirping Crickets didn’t grab me at all. Simple, repetitive, and not engaging musically.
Some nice classic rock and roll vibes but generally as a project this album is repetitive and boring. There's like 2 songs repeating ad nauseum. 1/5
i really can’t stand doo-wop music sry
Irstas elämäntyyli.. kohtalona 1 tähti... Velipoika.. venäläisiä raiskana... sama homma..
it seems like decent classical rock so far but i feel like maybe it isnt necessary to listen to music you dont find appealing im sure it was revolutionary in its day but like... some of it is quite boring i will wait until i listen to the less popular songs and the rest of the album but i cant see wanting to listen to it again also lyrically it really doesnt seem very interesting its always about a man pining over a woman and maybe they could branch out into something less monotone? i do love the harmonies in youve got love though and i imagine that if they continue then i will be giving it a two star rather than one the vocals in the less popular tracks remind of jazz songs like georgia on my mind which i love and i can see some of it inspiring simon and garfunkel which i think i appreciate more than these guys im so glad that i didnt grow up listening to this sort of music because it feels so limiting and uninspired but its not like other music of the time wasnt very interesting also these guys just have very repetitive songs so far its sad but in an upbeat way that doesnt bode well because you dont feel any of the emotion and it seems put on i am not excited by any of these songs really and i might be a little harsh too because some of these songs have had interesting parts to them some of the guitar work has been better than i thought but thank god thats over
Super Mid. How does a 26 minute album bore me that much? It’s not horrible, but it’s just so god damn boring.
This is lost on me. I can't imagine a time when this was cutting edge or held deep meaning for anyone. Just seems like something you listen to while getting a burger and trying to get your hand up your girl's shirt.
Old and not gold. Sounds like your typical 50-60s american music that you will not care about unless you were born in the US
I’m sure this is some ones like but this makes me so unbelievably bored
Lol. Who gives a shit
Not my thing
Simple, sweet, bland.
Geez, that was mostly forgettable. Would not listen again.
Generic 50’s bollocks.
nice guy anthem. He is a delusional creep
I get the significance of Buddy Holly but just doesn’t do it for me.
too basic/ old vibe not mine
I couldn't stand this. From 10 seconds in I was irritated by it.
i hate it, i hate buddy holly, i hate you. 2/10
Exactly what you expect
oh boy :)
