Idk what’s going on, idk want to find out

Is this the Tom Waits I can stand? No it is not

I'm rating this a 1 only because I'm not allowed to give less. What is this absolutely trash of an album? This sounds like something you should avoid your entire life

I mean I made it all the way through but I can’t say I enjoyed it

somebody please kill me before the next Tom waits album comes up (this is definitely better than the other two I've had to listen to so far but i still hate it)

I ate a bowl of nails for breakfast <calm> without any milk <panic>

Cringe

Blows goats

What a weird this guy is. No thanks.

Did not listen

Very few voices just plain annoy me. This is one of them. And it seems contrived, as if trying to assimilate blackness. I can't bear it.

What a terrible day to have ears

It felt like this album was trying to do a lot but accomplished very little. At times it was hard to hear what was going and he didn't enunciate anything. I liked Gin Soaked Boy but that was the only song that I liked. Maybe I just didn't get the album but it felt like the kind of album I would like in theory.

Please stop giving me Tom Waits albums.

If I wanted to listen to gibberish spoken into a microphone, this is the perfect album.

what the fuck was bro yapping about for real

Not just not for me.

What on earth did I just listen to?

SpongeBob ass opening track. My god. Actively pissed me off to listen to this. I do NOT like his voice.

I hate Tom Waits.

Oof. Swing and a miss here. At first I thought it was a Halloween themed album, then I was convinced I heard some circus music in there. One listen and done for this album. Even then, it was extremely difficult to make all the way through. This was brutal for the listener. I'd give a zero if available.

1.5 Yeah, I’m sorry, I don’t get this dude - Both of his albums have now sounded like The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack but if Danny Elfman was on deliriants when he composed it. I’m not someone normally opposed to unconventional music or vocals, but I really have no idea what this is supposed to be or whom it’s for. Like, I can’t imagine what would compel someone to be like “Oh man, you know what song I would kill to hear right now? Underground by Tom Waits.” Still, I would rather listen to this over that German industrial album we had or Throbbing Gristle, so I’ll bump it up to 1.5. I do think there’s a sense of musicianship buried underneath it all, and there’s no denying it takes a unique mind to put this kind of thing together, but still, it just doesn’t speak to me at all - it feels more like a thing for edgy theatre kids. Most positive thing I can say about this album - driving through Hollywood at night time listening to 16 Shells From a 30.6 was kind of a vibe, but I don’t think I would go out of my way to do it again.

Calling vocals and instrumentation that you would expect from a drunken person "experimental rock" is an insult to experimental rock.

Not for me at all.

Nope. Never really enjoyed his “music.” To each, her own. In my opinion, he’s boring.

This was dare I say torturous. Nothing remotely enjoyable or compelling here.

Ugh. Why would this be on a list of anything that anyone should ever listen to? People compare tom waits to beefheart and zappa, and I feel like this album just proves all that wrong and shows that hes not "experimental" or "unique", he just sucks. 1/5

This guy is the Insane Clown Posse of artistic, experimental bullshit

Underground - most popular song on the album? Not impressed so far. Shore leave - now this I can dig Halfway point and I just want it to be over. Tom was always someone I thought I’d want to check out. Hopefully his other stuff is better. Just not my thing. I guess we see how the second half goes…. Ok, maybe swordfishtrombone? Meh

Going through this list has certainly changed my perceptions of some artists for the better, however Tom Waits is not one of them. I didn't think I liked him before and I was right. Boring

Knarley

Sorry ... mér finnst þetta bara of erfitt í fyrstu hlutun, kemst ekki inn og finnst bara leiðinlegt.

He is an unusual talent not to my liking.

I give it a 1 because it has bagpipes - which is a good thing.

Spooky

omg stop stop stop stop STOP STOP FUCKING STOP

Blues, Rock, Sprechgesang, heisere Stimme, 1983 -> 1

Did not like

I’m trying to find one redeeming thing to say about this album: maybe the fact that it is over? Boring songs, a horrible, grating voice, bad lyrics, and too much spoken word. How is this guy’s music well-known?

I have heard of Tom Waits before but never heard him. now that I've heard him my thoughts are... how was this ever popular?

Nope sorry. Just mumbling

How can there be this many of this guy's albums on this list? Even worse than the previous ones.

Rainbird was okay. There was one other song that was okay. That's it.

Gross. I can’t. The guy that runs this certainly has his favorites and every time one of these garbage albums comes up, I wonder why we give two flying fucks about what this fucking dude says.

This is like weird spoken word theater music. He should stick to acting imo.

No thanks

Might be the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my life

I don’t like the sound of his voice.

Every song plays the same trick…oh this sounds good, oh tom waits has turned up to dive bomb it.

Every song featuring a new silly gimmick instrument, from bagpipes to glockenspiel to accordion. He sounds like he's in severe pain. If you had a pet that sounded like him you'd put it out of its misery

Jesus. That's 30 seconds of my life I won't get back. Just sounds like some old drunk guy. Utter shite.

Awfulgarbage. I literally don't understand this in the slightest.

Not for me, is dit piratenmuziek?

It was not my cup of tea.

About half the songs were interesting and I liked but the other half were so grating that it ruined the album for me. I know that its is jazz and a bit more experimental but some of the songs really missed the mark. My favorite song was Swordfishtrombone. Unfortunately 1 star

Stupid clown music.

Not for me

Wouldn't have missed it if I hadn't heard

I never got Tom Waits and this album didn't help.

The voice ..the sound… just terrible!

Tom Waits

Fifth Waits album. I'm SURE he was that important, and not - as I actually described him in an earlier review - a raspy old hack. Right? This shtick is painful. I didn't expect much from this, and I was *still* disappointed. 1/5.

This has to be a joke, right? The fact that this piece of trash ended up on a list with such legendary figures as The Beatles, Nas, Stevie Wonder, and Prince, just to name a few, is genuinely infuriating.

Eurrrrrgh. No thanks Tom. Musically it's not too bad but the chanty, sneery vocals are just too annoying

5 Tom Waits albums in the list? The dude wasn't that good, for fuck's sake.

Just not for me, hard to call it music

Definitely not for me, music doesn't make sense for me

I just don't get Tom Waits. Carny music...1.5/5

Couldn't get it into this.

Can't do it

You know, if Tom Waits filmed himself taking a dump, I wouldn't want to watch it. Listening to part of this album feels like the auditory parallel of what I just described. Too much of this album sounds like Tom figuring out how the rest of it is going to sound and when he does figure it out we're served songs that might be a 3.5 at best.

Not really a fan

Huh. So I hate Tom Waits? Didn’t know that.

Found this unlistenable. Get it might be ,really innovative, creative etc but not for me.

Not my favorite. Too jammy jazzy. I’m not smart enough it feels.

Good grief, no. Just no. Tom Waits is just the damn worst. He tries SO HARD to be "creepy" and just manages "cringey." He just... talks nonsense and calls it art. And people buy his crap for some reason? On top of the usual Waits nonsense, "Swordfishtrombones" gets an added dose of nope from old Tom's utterly crap production. It's poorly recorded, poorly produced, and poorly performed. I was going to give this my (now standard) Tom Waits 2-Stars but, as the album went on I realized that it's just utter garbage and doesn't even deserve a "there's good music in here somewhere" extra star.

I spent half the album waiting for it to actually start, it never does, so I just gave up

Don’t understand

Tom Waits always gets 1/5 from me because it's not music, it's fucking awful.

Weirdddd

Fuck this guy

Just. Why?

Wtf was that, weird day, closet organizer, bday weird vibes, walk? Online dating

Not a fan. Didn't even try. Can't stand his music.

Nö, lass mal. Will das Kunst sein? Ein bisschen zu sehr?

Couldn't even get halfway through this album . Hated it

Simply awful.

I'm not sure how many packs Waits chain-smoked a day, but I know it was enough to give me secondhand smoke from listening to this.

Bro this was cringe as fuck, I can’t tell if it’s parody or what, it’s just clownish and unlistenable. I hope he damaged his voice cords recording this shit

Another album of random noise, this time punctuated by a couple short instrumental interludes with actual instruments and no dead cat crying.

Some weird shit

This is considered to be music by some people?

1.5 stars. Did not like any of the songs. Listened to them all, which is why it gets a half a star more than the others, but overall would not recommend to anyone.

Yeah, cannot get into Tom Waits

Utter wank and its been the same for the other 2 albums I've had to endure from this guy !

Don’t wait, Tom.

not a tom waits fan

This was a difficult listen. I had a hard time getting through the first couple songs. Some of the later songs were better. I'm giving it 1 star because I dread ever listening to this again.

mi sembra Mario Biondi, non ci siamo

Thanks I hate it

Warum ist das ein Album, das man gehört haben muss?

not my style rippppppp

It is better than Heartattack And Vine, but I just don't like Tom Waits

Couldn't listen to the whole thing... I appreciate it but not my thing

Uhm, some cool sound collages but otherwise storytelling over some music

Helaas, velen zullen mij verfoeien. Ik ben al geen fan van Tom Waits, maar dit krakende gebeuren is veel te avant-gardistisch voor mij.

I listened to as much as I could but not for me

Written in the throws of morbidness, I hadn’t heard much of Waits before this. Seems to try to be weird for the sake of it

I thought I knew Tom Waits (gravelly voiced folk rock singer), but this was something really different. Experimental. Didn’t work for me.

I guess I just don't get it.

Eksperimenterende, poetisk, blandet lydunivers
