I found it odd and unpleasant.
What sounds like a bunch of random people went to a Guitar Center, ripped some lines of coke in Aisle 4, and went hog wild on the instruments simultaneously.
It is really shamefull for a list of such great albums that this piece of music is included. It starts with plain noise: my initial thought was that it is fine, but it has to be compensated. Like in Echoes by Pink Floyd or in a Day in the Life by the Beatles. Parts of the songs are ugly, but other parts are really beautiful to compensate that. This album is just plain noise, there is no compensation. This is a painting where the painter just threw lots of paint at the canvas. Maybe there are some specific parts of the album that would fit in a song to give a good album a low point. But this is no good album, I would give this a 1/10.000. This site would be better if we could grade 1/100.

Noise, mostly
Absolutely zonked when I heard this album. It's like a baseballbat with needles, put on fire, repeatedly bashing you in the head. I just can't understand what bands like this are going for and try to achieve other than make the most unenjoyable music ever to be heard. It's just so off putting and I don't think I will ever "get it". Cheers to those who do like it, there seems to be heaps of you freaks. 1,5 out of 10

I listened to the whole thing just so I could say I gave it a fair shake. There was a short time during the Dracula song that I actually thought, "Hey, that's a pretty cool beat they got going there." But that was the extent of my enjoyment of that album. This is what pretentious people listen to and pretend they like to be seen as "avant-garde", but unless they like people banging things and making noise with no discernible intent or rhythm whatsoever, they are lying to themselves. This is worse than toddlers banging on instruments. At least toddlers are cute. Ugh.
super punk, not in the way i like though. VERY abstract and overall meh, not my taste. i could see other people liking it, but it's just not for me.
The 1001 book describes Lightning Bolt as creating "a mix of sheer abuse and welcome diversity, for a truly challenging listening experience." Such a challenging experience that it was removed from future editions. I have challenged myself to the abuse for the second time, because I had no idea what to write originally two years ago. There won’t be a third time.

Listened Before? N Noisy! I know that's the point but I have a little bit of trouble figuring out how this belonged on this list. As far as "experimental" music goes, this is almost listenable. I would even dare say there are a few riffs that are pretty good. That said, I can't in good conscience give this anything above 1 star.

Couldn't finish it. Like if McClusky decided they weren't annoying and screechy enough. And also decided that melody and rhythm wasn't important. And also that it's not music if it doesn't hurt your brain.

I tried to make it all the way through, but I couldn't do it. I don't really like my music to be "challenging" to listen to as the artist says this album was. If there is any reason why I should continue to listen please let me know
This genre is called “noise rock” and it certainly is noisy. I don’t like noise rock very much.

There were some fun rhythms, but a noise rock band is - after all - just that. Fun to experience, but not the first nor the best of its kind.

OMG. It just started right off the bat so awful. A bunch of awful sounds combined to make an awful album. I don’t understand how this is influential unless it’s a blueprint on what not to do? But really- nothing good came from this.
Get bent. Appropriately enough, I actually am getting a root canal this afternoon and after listening to this shit I'm excited about my day improving. I have a morbid fascination at/about any appeal here, and reading some of the actually-published reviews of this is hilarious. Just look at this tripe: "...perhaps the album's most remarkable feat is its utter lack of density: One never gets the sense that anything excessive or unnecessary was utilized in constructing its sonic brickworks." HAHAHA yeah lack of density how profound. This is such a perfect encapsulation of the worst kind of alt-smugness - "oh how different is this!" - it's beyond not good. This is almost literally the sound of being in a metal factory with machines on full tilt. F right off 0/10 0 stars.
It's very noisy with a cacophony going on. I try my hardest to isolate certain sounds and they're obviously talented as there's good guitar riffs and impressive drums but all together it's jarring with sharp sounds added at somewhat random times. The album is to stressful and it's not the BPM that bothers me but the dissonance.

Oh boy. Noise rock. This should go over well in the comments section. I definitely prefer some semblance of melody in the music I listen to and while the genre is not something I want to outright dismiss, I haven't found any bands I can really get down with among the noise rock staples. It's not just the fact that these songs are actively hard to listen to, it's that they are also long and drawn out. For me personally, this is an album I could have gone without hearing.

I just wasn’t aware how many ‘artists’ are out there making horrible noise, passing it off as music and receiving critical acclaim. Guess I can thank this list for bringing that to my attention…

It's a shame this thing gets better (linearly, more or less) as it plays, since the first fifteen to twenty minutes are utter dross. I'm grateful for listening, I suppose: The duo format is interesting, and there are a few ideas recorded here. It's mostly really boring noise, and not the challenging kind. Instantly hatable.

Unrelenting shit. They have eight albums of this! "Hello Morning", the first song on the album, is ALL you need to hear of this band's entire catalogue.
It sounds like someone is trying to beat the radio shack for more information. Either that or a gang of toddlers got ahold of their parents instrument's. Probably listenable if you're into that sorta thing. This album has about ten seconds of listenable music. But I assume that's just when the babysitter walked in. Don't worry he left quite quickly

Had to immediately turn down the volume after the 1st song started. So far not off to a great start, didn't like the 2nd track. I'm more a fan of lyrics and singing which these songs so far don't have much of. Not to say that I don't enjoy instrumental songs, I just haven't been feeling this album so far. 2 Towers didn't need to be 7 minutes long, it feel like the same part repeated for 5 of those minutes. No progression at all, very boring. Fast forwarded through the last couple songs and wasn't impressed. Not my kind of style.
